    TR4 or 4A (wasn’t smart enough at the time to know the difference) was my first ride in a British sports car at the age of about 14. That’s a nice car there.

    There was a "project" car like this on sale on the Bring A Trailer website this week. This one is much nicer than the BAT car, which looks like it was submerged in a swap for a few years. Your customer is selling a nicely restored example of a TR4A. I used to have one, and they are new fast and fun cars. The TR4's were faster than the emission controlled TR6's and TR250's.

    Looks like pre-date code tires. Those are very old Michelin tires! Nice that the car has the solid rear axle, instead of the quirky IRS which is a pain in the ass and makes the car squat down every time you get on the throttle.

    • @alanm.4298
      @alanm.4298 Před 26 dny

      The IRS cars really need both front and rear anti-swqy bars. The solid axle cars only need one on the front.

    That TR4A has a speedometer that reads in kilometers per hour, not miles per hour. It probably has the wrong gear in the speedometer drive for the KM speedometer.

    • @neilrogers8931
      @neilrogers8931 Před 26 dny

      Only the numbers on the speedo changed, not the gearing. 60mph is at the top of the speedo as is the kph equivalent of 96.5. Canadian speed limits changed to kph in 1977 so the speedo would have been changed sometime after that.

    • @phensriwood8081

      Gearing is different for the odometer.

    • @neilrogers8931

      @@phensriwood8081 Odometer gearing is internal to the speedo and has nothing to do with the drive from the transmission.

    I’m guessing the speedometer is not original unless the car originated in Europe.

    I thought that was TR4A was IRS, not leaf spring and traditional straight axle rear end

      Not all tr4a cars were irs the earlier ones such as this were solid axle. I have a 1966 4a which is solid axle too although the frame is set up just like the tr6 with the diagonal cross members for the irs suspension. Beautiful car.

  • @Rugbyman269

    So it's a TR4 then , not an A ?

    • @TR4Ajim
      @TR4Ajim Před 27 dny +4

      It’s a 4A. You can tell by the front side markers and the center mounted hand brake lever. What might have confused you is the solid axle/leaf springs. My ‘65 4A has a solid axle as well. Some 4As were built with solid axles for the US market. My understanding is the US dealers were hesitant about the new IRS system.

      WRONG, it's on the left side which is the right side for any car, I'd rather shift with my right hand, at least here in Canada, cheers mate.
