I've had a 1998 Corolla for 22 years. I paid $6900 for it in 2002. It has 170k miles. I'm keeping it until the end.
Almost all cars are piling up on parking lots!!!
Absolutely! take away the politics from Elon opening his mouth... its the 15% interest rates with good credit that's killing car sales. We have a government problem, not a Tesla problem!

Try to buy a Toyota.
Reporter: Your inventory if piling up. Should investors be worried?
Toyota: No, we are Toyota. We can handle it.
Ford: No, we are Ford. US gov't will bail us out.
Tesla: Well, given our very thin profit margin, we are F'd.
No one with good credit is getting 15% on new or used cars right now. More like 7-9% at worst. Lots of manufacturers have certain models subsidized under 4% right now. @@padfoo
All home owners with garages and driveways finally got their EVs. For everyone else, hybrids.
I have a home and a garage but no EVs. I prefer gas
My gf has a Tesla and she lives in a condo community. There are at least 4 other Teslas in the parking lot. While having a place to plug in at home is convenient, there are easy work-arounds. There's a free charger in her neighborhood and she can charge at my place anytime. Btw: I also have a Tesla and I love it!

EV's in general feel underbaked and expensive. In 2024 give me that 5th generation Toyota hybrid system.

I would take a Prius Prime over any Tesla, regardless of the price.
I would never buy a car or ev that I can not fix or repair but, at the whims of a company that actually owns your cars day to day operations. A Prius can at least be repaired by a non dealer shop.
I would not buy a car that I can’t fix either so i definitely would not buy an internal combustion engine car, far too many moving parts to breakdown. No service needed to keep my teslas warranty valid. I’m glad you like to pay out to stop your car from breaking down and to keep its warranty valid. People like you keep the stealerships in business!
@@grahamrennie7617i would never buy but only lease a Tesla. It’s basically an iPhone on wheels. They will eventually stop updates and force you to buy a new one. I rather have an ICe car that I can repair myself,

Im already tired of the Cybertruck. Shock value gone. I saw a orange wrapped Cybertruck in my neighborhood…. Absolute eyesore.
This must have been the conversation at TESLA HQ.
"Let's design a vehicle that looks really f'king hideous like it's been designed by a group of preschool kids with learning difficulties, after being given a shoebox and a rusty pair of scissors. Because there are, believe it or not, stupid people out there who will buy this turd. Men with small penises, People who can't walk past a window without the irresistible urge to lick it. People with no taste, no self awareness, too thick to realise why everyone's laughing at them, and really no shame"
So it fits in with all the other regular pickup truck eyesores.
Haha. Even worse.
So instead of being a trapezoid on a rectangle, it's a triangle on a rectangle. I love my pickup, but I have no delusions that it's any better looking than a CT! Now the insane price for the CT and what you're getting for said price, that's another story, pretty much paying for a meme. The next round of improved CTs will sell at a discount just like everything else Tesla sells.

A base Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE is 25k and gets 50MPG, and it's super reliable and very low maintenance. Why does someone would get a model 3? Do you want something bigger and faster? Buy the new Toyota Camry SE, 32K and you are good to go.
Even 50mpg is rubbish, I have a vw golf ( rabbit you call them ), over 40 yrs old with a 2003 , 1.9sdi Diesel engine that never drops below 60mpg in urban driving
@markevans2280 You are in Europe, over there, magicky cars get over there get better gas mileage. Note: I will take a golf TDI 1.9 6 speed over a hybrid every day, but the reality here is North America finding a 6-speed golf that is well taken care of is almost impossible and here the same for unaplained reasons cars will get much more gas mileage that in Europe so we buy hybrids.
VW has emissions fraud problems worldwide.
The Volkswagen emissions scandal, sometimes known as Dieselgate]or Emissionsgate, began in September 2015, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to German automaker Volkswagen Group. The agency had found that Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing, which caused the vehicles' NOx output to meet US standards during regulatory testing.
However, the vehicles emitted up to 40 times more NOx in real-world driving. Volkswagen deployed this software in about 11 million cars worldwide, including 500,000 in the United States, in model years 2009 through 2015.- Wikipedia
40's us the realistic number
@@Nemura12 The imperial. Gallon is bigger so the MPGs aren't comparable. My petrol/gas Golf does 50 UK MPG = 41 US MPG. It is actually an automatic (DSG) which makes it more economical than a manual. Slushboxes were only common in cars like Jaguars here where the buyers were rich enough to not be concerned about MPG.
Diesels were actually more economical but we all know how VW achieved that (tune for maximum NOx).
Toyota is brilliant….smashing sales
Their strategy with hybrid production is sound but "smashing" sales on the Prius is not based on volume because they are barely shipping to the states. Less than 35K sent to the US in 2023. Let's see if they can put out decent numbers on the Camry which will make the Prius almost obsolete.

I can only tell you what I see here in Southeast Houston. I frequent the Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Honda dealerships in this area.. The Honda dealership has the same lineup of pilots on their lot since January 31. No additional and no sales. The Toyota dealership has the same 7 4 runners they have had since about January 15. The Ford dealership has the same six broncos all Sasquatch edition, since the end of January. The Dodge Jeep and Chrysler dealerships have the same jeeps they have had since the end of January. And when I say the same, I take pictures every time I go.
100% this guy is paid for by petrol heads. I drive by the local auto row on my way to work. The only cars I see moving are the Toyota Grand Hilander and the Lexus equivalent. The 4Runners have been sitting there for almost a year, Pilots were moving last year but not anymore. I don't think the Ford, or Chevy dealerships have sold a single car or truck in months. They started parking their cars in the empty lots across the streets. The problem is price inflation has gone wild and people don't want to spend money on overpriced depreciating assets. Based on so many articles out there, it looks like people are becoming educated about the negative aspects of EVs and are choosing not to buy them, myself included. I had considered an EV but after some intensive research, I've decided to put a deposit down on an ice Corolla. It's an inexpensive and reliable car that doesn't cause ANY kind of anxiety.
So many of the articles like this video are FUD. I've owned a Tesla for 5 years now and have NO anxiety about it. I've taken it on several 2k+ mile trips and have never had a problem charging it. What this video doesn't tell you is that in many cities there is only ONE Tesla "dealership." Where I live there's only one Tesla store and the region has millions in population. Of course they have to stockpile them. If there was only one Toyota dealership lot for a region of millions, you'd see the same thing with Toyotas. Far from being "educated," most people are being manipulated by Big Oil and legacy auto.

Actually, you can't do those things. If you drive non-stop for 400 miles (your words!), that's 8 hours of continuous driving and very dangerous, even *IF* you vehicle could go that far at highway speeds. Tesla owners don't worry about finding a charger, it finds them. Sorry, your scenario is bogus.

Just looked at the Tesla inventory for stores that are within 100 miles of where I live in the Denver area. There are 72 Model Ys, 6 Model 3s, 16 Model Xs, and 15 Model Ss, for a total of 109 Teslas in inventory in my area. There are 5 stores/service centers in my area within 100 miles. I still have a bit to go however it is worth mentioning that a 25k electric car is not the same as ice because it’s an unwritten rule that you need to own a house for it even to make sense. Since lower cost cars are bought generally by people with less money things don’t match up.

One reason for the Teslas piling up is production overcapacity. Tesla increased its capacity faster than its sales. During its honeymoon period, Tesla was supply constrained, so it didn’t face the problems traditional OEMs do. Now Tesla needs to learn to balance production with sales without dealerships serving as a buffer.
Agreed, what also caused this was the vehicle shortages after 2020. From like 2020 to 2023 you could not buy any vehicle at even MSRP. Tesla could easily sell every car they had. Now this is over and no dealership is able to sell their cars.
yGigacyea having almost no dealership service centers saves a lot of money investments.
But when sales are all online mostly there is no buffer no storage locations just a lot of unsold cars.
I am.guessing hertz and fleet sales are zero now too because of charging and time requirements. And rare service centers.

The overall theme appears to be that luxury cars and trucks (and those perceived as luxury) aren't selling well right now while value brands are selling much better. Tesla has a branding problem because while it is shifting towards value, it is still perceived by most Americans as a luxury brand.

You mention Subaru, Toyota, and Honda, as the only 3 doing well, those are the only 3 choices I would buy, + I want my vehicle built in Japan. The future is plug-in hybrids, we will convert Tesla and all other EVs to plug-ins as well. And yes hydrogen is coming, it's all about electric drivetrain with a much smaller battery and an auxiliary power to meet your needs. Tesla EVs will end their life as parts vehicles for backyard builders.
Interesting out of those automakers in America only about half of Subaru are made in Japan. Even less Toyotas. And only the civic type r is made in Japan for Honda Acura
Hydrogen already failed with the Mirai. Also costs of transport are ridiculous.

Yes base corolla and camry gets over 40 mpg on highway speeds. And much better range/faster fillup to boot as well. No need for EVs going long distance drive
@@springer-qb4dv my issue is that you still have the maintenance of an ICE with a hybrid. If the normal use case is 50 miles a day commute, then an EV would be ideal assuming charging can be done at home.
With a Tesla, you never have to go to a gas station… if you can charge at home, why wouldn’t you get a Tesla?
On paper, a Tesla’s less work, less maintenance than an ICE or hybrid… and a Tesla’s practical for its size, fast, etc.
A Corolla Hybrid can go nearly 600 miles on a tank of gas, so for the tiny amount of people who drive hundreds of miles a day, that may be the better choice… but don’t most people drive less than 50 miles a day?
If you’re a 2-car family, it makes sense to have a Tesla and a Toyota hybrid… the latter for road trips.

All those Cybertrucks are spoken for. Some of the others may be / are probably inventory vehicles. Tesla has been using mall parking lots for storage for a long time. They were using our local mall’s lot for a while as well. Now occupied by a traveling circus (Smiththaven Mall). Even 2 or 3 years ago our local Tesla dealer (Smithtown Tesla) had no room on their lot and they were all sold and spoken for. As for your comments about Roosevelt Field mall in Westbury, NY, Tesla just opened up a brand new dealership nearby in a former Babies R Us. From day one that lot was full with mostly service vehicles and trade ins. In fact when I visited, I was wondering where they were storing new inventory. Now I know, Roosevelt Field Mall.
One thing you havent touched upon is that all of those Teslas sitting in fields have no Superchargers to use and the batteries deplete at a rate of around 1% perday so between the storage fees and the generators or the superchargers on rigs and the diesel fees needed to recharge the cars............
Tesla should just take their junk back to Texas and pile them up on their 2500 acre site on the Rio Grande River
Tesla border wall😂😂
So they have to keep charging them or the batteries go bad?
@@ratedm90 EV battery will degrade over time regardless what you do from moment it was produced, but yes you cannot let it go down to zero for any longer periods of time since that is where dangerous dendrites form inside the battery, witch are tiny, needle-like structures that can form on the electrodes of a battery over time, especially if the battery is overcharged or damaged. If these dendrites come into contact with the separator in the battery, it can lead to a short circuit and potentially cause a thermal runaway event, leading to a fire or explosion. For best service life battery should be kept at 20-80% capacity and in winter you cannot let it go under 30% as energy is needed to warm up the battery for charging. Charging it to 100% also takes longer well as degrade the battery faster. Same thing with fast charging. EV battery that has lost 30% of its capacity is considered to be essentially bad and needs to be replaced. This can take in optimal cases 20 years, but since most if not all people will fast charge when ever possible realistic utility life is 10 years. You can hear about breakthroughs in battery tech in every month from EV fanboy channels but time will tell. I for one wont be wasting my money on ticking time bomb, specially when my home insurance most likely wont compensate for EV burning the house down.
All modern vehicles have some parasitic drain in them from car alarms to systems being in standby mode that cause vehicle left standing with out charging or periodically starting and long distance driving until battery is charged again to be discharged. On lithium batteries the issue is far worse for previously mentioned reasons and undercharged battery can have dendrites forming or simply causing thermal runaway event from putting too much current in while its low. I have salvaged several batteries from undervoltage situation and those are still working, but there is risks involved and after all EV can have thousands of these cells, where just one going thermal will cause chain reaction. Larger the battery more danger the fire is, but BMC can separate low condition or damaged cells some extent, but its not sure way method as fire can happen with out warning and effect is rapid and devastating due the heat generated.
TL:DR Battery will degrade over time regardless what is done and will drain over time requiring to be charged to 80% every couple months or so.
@@Hellsong89 Wow awesome explanation! why do people still buy EV with all the knowledge based on the batteries and how they function.( not for the best) I wonder if Tesla offers a battery life feature to tell it’s life expectancy. Like you said I wouldn’t want it no where near my home and family. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night 😅
In CA in 2022, during a heat wave, the government officials asked EV drivers to not charge during peak hours 4-9 PM. This is the time most people prefer to charge. However the aging electric grid, might not be able to handle it. One professor advised that recharging at a work place, during the day, would be beneficial. However, the infrastructure, isn’t available. The electric companies always advise energy conservation during the summers. Will everyone be able to charge, when everyone has a EV???
Everything you said was incorrect, but Exxon appreciates your patronage, despite how ignorant it is. First, California told EVERYONE to not use high-amperage energy at peak times, including lighting, clothes dryers and EVs. It was stupid to include EVs in the request, because EVs charge off-peak when you're asleep. Everyone WILL be able to charge with an EV as they charge outside of demand time. Lastly, air conditioning in your home consumes more electricity than an EV does. Concerned about the grid? Stop building homes with A/C, or fix the sh!tty grid.
Until an EV can charge as quickly as filling up at the pump, I’m fine with hybrids.
And battery replacement cost not more than gas engine cost.
Do you own a home? If so, you know you can charge it overnight, right? Nobody that owns a home is waiting for their car to charge, unless they're on a road trip.
@@anonymousfu That’s like saying it’s easy to put gasoline in my car every time I go home. It’s more steps and more of a disruption than it’s worth. Thats why I’d never even consider a PHEV. And I do go on pretty far road trips once or twice a year, so a full EV is not even on my radar.
@@91_C4_FL Sorry, so you're saying it wouldn't be convenient to be able to fill up with gas at your house, and the house-gas is a third the price of a gas station? 🤔
As the manufacturers discount new BEVs the second hand value drops as well.
agreed, 25k is a great price for almost any car!
If they werent disposable computers that go obsolete in 3 years I'd be way more into them. No way I'm buying something that runs on a subscription and they won't let me fix myself. It's just another step towards "you will own nothing". No thanks. So much potential but the lifecycle model for these things is not appealing to me at all.
Better get rid of the phone you wrote that with
The trucks look ugly!
Amen. Worst vehicle looks in EVER! How do you modify a POS?
The vast majority of pickup trucks look like ugly boring boxes, so what's your point? The only pickups that looked 1/2 way decent were built back in the 40s and 50s.
@@kenbob1071 that’s your opinion . Different opinions , and my take is that most pick up trucks with different designs still look a lot better than Tesla design.
Ironic that they chose that lot. Parking teslas in a parking lot of Sears is foreshadowing the future of the company. 🤣
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold significantly fewer China-made vehicles last month, falling back to levels close to February, when the Chinese New Year holiday fell.
The US electric vehicle (EV) maker sold 62,167 China-made vehicles in April, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That monthly sales, which include exports from China to overseas markets, were down 18.03 percent from 75,842 a year ago, and down 30.20 percent from 89,064 in March, and slightly higher than the 60,365 vehicles sold in February.
Same thing going on in Indy at TESLA found a whole bunch at a mall
well, at least they can take out the batteries and make some RC cars for the kids
🤣🤣🤣
I'm waiting for EV infrastructure to get better. In the mean time, hybrids and ICE are the way
That's the problem where I live and commute. Frigid winters, frozen charging stations, and cold weather range are deal-breakers. I could live with an electric, but not until charging stations are plentiful.
@@dougrobinson8602And pure-plug-in charging stations need to be indoors.
@@dougrobinson8602 I agree, although I drive a Model Y in my retirement in a moderate climate. For most people, range must be 500 miles with 10 minute charging sessions.
Same here. It seems pointless to have one if there aren't any places to charge it.
always love your videos kirks, very informative, rely on facts not BS
FUD! Dealerships are full! What’s happening is that Hertz got rid of all their EV’s and interest rates are high! All car brands are having problems!
He said Toyota, Honda, and Subaru aren't.
Definitely FUD. Where I live there is only one Tesla store for millions of people. Of course they have to stockpile the cars somewhere. If Toyota had only one small dealership lot for this entire region, they'd have to store the cars in abandoned mall parking lots too.
Cybertrucks look like rolling urinals!
But don't piss on it. They show rust.
EVs suck. There's no infrastructure, even in California. The only advantages are being able to charge at home and cheap energy prices, which California ironically have neither (most people are renters in the state.) Basically, EVs are rich people's toys.
If you google search "California renters vs homeowners" the first thing that pops up says that the majority of people are NOT renters (55% own vs. 45% who rent).
Plus EVs clearly out-perform ICE vehicles and don't kick out climate changing carbon from their non-existent tailpipes or smog producing pollutants which are proven to negatively affect health --especially of poor people. Most people don't travel more than 50 miles/day so range is not an issue. The only maintenance I've done in 5 years of owning a Tesla have been routine tire rotations, wiper blades and cabin air filter replacements. I also don't expect to ever need a brake job b/c I rarely need to apply the brakes. No oil changes, no emissions inspections, no gas station visits....EVs hardly "suck."
I tried to lease one, but they wanted $5k down point. I told him to jump in a lake!
There are several aspects of the CyberTruck that I think are ridiculous. The steering wheel looks more like a console game controller. To open the glove compartment (actually it’s a drawer) you have to navigate to a particular screen on the big display and click on a button. The turn signals are on the steering wheel. There are no stalks on the column. Tires and wheel covers were designed together. However, the wheel covers had to be recalled because the covers were chewing into the tire sidewalls. And nobody has any idea how expensive replacement tires will be, it is assumed that replacements will only be available from Tesla. If the owner is towing a trailer with the truck, there are no Supercharger locations that will accommodate a pull through charging situation. Things may have changed because the Ugly Trucks are piling up. But initially the owner was required to sign a legal document that prevented to buyer from selling the truck for a year. This was to prevent buyers from obtaining a truck, just to turn right around at an inflated price. WOW, the MSRP is already about $100,000. And to conclude, Elon Musk lately has been making some bizarre decisions about the Tesla company.
It feels like the beginning of the end for the EV experiment, in their current incarnation of battery they just dont work for the majority, lets see
With California Superchargers at 58cents/kWh, it's cheaper to put fuel in a RAV4 hybrid than a MY. The Toyota is a car you can forget about and drive, while the Tesla is a headache that will be worthless after the 8 year drivetrain warranty runs out.
Then do what 99% of people do and charge at home! 1/6th of the price!
@@grahamrennie7617 dude in LA its 26 cents/kWh charging at home.
I really don’t understand why people keep mentioning about charge on public charging station, most people and most of time just charge at home, and it’s a lot more convenient and cost less, you can’t do that in a gas car, you have to fill the gas at a gas station, your home doesn’t give you gas for cheap.
@@grahamrennie7617 Because at my condo, electricity is 36cents/kWh. I would have to pay $2,000 to have a smart charger installed on a 40A line and the HOA demands insurance that would cost me $900/year. Throw in the increased cost of car insurance and the fact that a Tesla is worthless after the 8 year drivetrain warranty has expired, and owning one makes no sense.
@@67daltonknox a regular outlet at 120v will serve most people for their EV, your $2,000 smart charger is unnecessary. Put in a standard outlet, even 40A, and use the portable charger that comes with the car. On and Tesla's aren't "worthless" after the warranty is up, are Toyotas worthless after their 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty is up?
Mining is highly reg'd in the U.S.A. meaning expensive. China has no real law to cover impacts meaning open for business. Export the damages and import the goods. "Working".
I’ve heard EV fanboys blame “big oil” but it’s not “big oil” fault for EVs having higher insurance due to fire risks, EVs being unprofitable to build despite rebates, EVs being undesirable despite discounts, etc. Of course EVs would sell if there was no better, cheaper gas cars. But the whole point of a free economy is to be able to drive what the heck we want.
Where’s your source for that information? How do you know it wasn’t planted by a Koch think tank?
The rate for EV fires is at least 10x-30x LESS than gas cars. If you have higher insurance, shop around. My EV insurance is the same as my other cars, based upon value and age of the vehicle. EVs are immensely profitable if you started out making EVs.
I don’t have any stories about Sears because we don’t have them here, but I sure am disappointed at how they fell from the largest retail company in the world, to nothing.
The future for Tesla

For reasons unknown, it made me think about a line from the movie Princess Bride. "He's only mostly dead."
The exactly same thing is happening in Albuquerque.
When EV's first came out, I was splighty interested, but the more I hear about them, there is NO WAY I would get one
As an EE in Silicon Valley, I don't even own any EV. Why? Because it's not cool. Period.
And I bet you check your image in the mirror every two minutes too...😮
The Tesla dealer in my area is also full of cars in the lots
Even for free, an EV wouldn't be worth the money after waiting for 20+ minutes for a single charge.
I recently purchased a new car. It immediately depreciated. I think the same it's true for OEM's.
Those cars are not gaining value sitting around. Walking away from a poker game with the money you came with can be considered a win. Sell the cars.
Kia EVs have been sold for months out... This isn't an EV thing, this is a prices are just way too high thing. Not to mention my last car loan was 2.8%, now it's like 8.2%.
The cyber truck is a horrific design.
That's about an hour of production.
Insurance cost is $$$ for electric vehicles driving up the overall cost. Not able to afford. Hybrid rules
Unless you Insure with Tesla, then it is cheaper
Total bunk. My '24 Tesla Model costs less to insure with the same coverage as my wife's '23 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Tesla has it's own reasonable insurance plan. This is a problem, what might be true of other EV makers, they don't have as good a total solution as Tesla.
Hybrids are the worst of both worlds.
