That’s the same hilt he had in Rebels. Though, the more I looked at it, it kinda looks like he made it from a broken inquisitor lightsaber hilt. I don’t know for sure but that’s just me

Could be a throwaway miss from me,but i watched a yt vid and savages saber has a similar hilt and maul had the saber in tcw,i think instead of killing an inquisitor and just stealing the blade,he took his dead brothers blade to give pain

I have the DX16 and after watching your review, I am convinced this DX18 will be my personal favorite version of Maul as well. I am literally blown away by this figure's presence - simply menacing with that outfit along with the robotic legs.
I'm okay with it being a little light with the accessories with the level of detail and articulation Hot Toys gives you with the mechanical legs. That's the biggest selling point for me.
I'm also relieved to learn the robes are "not" pleather. I've been reading/hearing some comments that he has too much pleather. So, glad to learn that is false.

16:00 Maul's second set of robot legs were the huge minotaur ones, but I thought those were goofy. He ended up getting them replaced by a witch that made them much closer to his normal legs.

I watched it again. Just ordered it. First figure iv ordered in absolutely ages but this is by far my favourite Maul released.

I think the sense that the base was kept so big is that the chair has space on it and it has a kind of pedestal effect.

Idrk if you'll end up seeing this, but I wanted to say that maul has always been my favorite character, and before I got into these figures and into collecting I saw this maul figure and suddenly I was obsessed. I started collecting a few months ago with mythos obi wan because I thought hed look wonderful with this figure here in the vid. A few figures/ months later I preordered maul and now, finally, he should be shipping any day. But another big aspect that got me so interested were YOUR review videos specifically. Whenever i want a figure I go and see if Justins got a review of it up on his channel and I see what you have to say about it. I'm by no means an avid collector. Hell my figures arent even on a proper display case, but I really feel like your insight on these figures has really helped me learn a lot and inspired me as a collector. But in short, thank you for all your videos and all the help that you give to people who are just starting. I genuinely appreciate it. Keep up the good work!!

I love how In the first movie he is all fresh and young and a killing machine but with this figure it shows how he is a warm down beast with the wrinkles missing legs outgrown horns and older face expressions/ darker face

Thanks for the review Justin! Agree with you re the dx status for this fig. Doesnt seem to deserve that. Sure he has the magnetic head and the movable eyes but in terms of accessories the new Jango or Cody has more.
Still, very cool fig. I'm glad I've got him PO'd.
Relieved the outer robe isn't pleather.

Outstanding review, J. This is a must buy for me. I've never obsessed about a figure's legs, lol. It will go nicely next to my Phantom Menace Maul + Speeder Bike. I agree, hate the base. Also, the chair is um, fine...straight out of the movie but for the leader of Crimson Dawn, it is somewhat ordinary? Not a dealbreaker. Gonna enjoy doing crazy martial arts poses!

Wasn't counting on picking it up, especially since I already have the TPM version, but man does it look good. After watching this review and the final product pics I would be a fool if I pass on it. Not the most iconic maul, but probably the "coolest" version we will ever see.

Awesome figure there Justin. Have always loved Darth Maul. Just placed my order for it. The base is a tad big for where I intend on placing it ( No harsh judgment please ) it's going in my bathroom next to my Darth Maul electronic toothbrush holder. 2 reasons. 1 / I have no room left in my home.

Is the outfit material pleather? Got mine in and at first glance it seems like fabric but it stretches and has an odd texture.

Wow amazing figure!! Although I don't like the red on the headsculpt. It's a bit dark, think it looks much better with a brighter tone of red. But overall very cool!

In your copy, does he have inconsistent shades of black on his headsculpt? I noticed mine has a darker shade on his jaws compared to the three slightly grayish tattoos on his forehead.

I just got this figure, and it is amazing! I love it, but the only downside for me is the horrible gauntlet covers. Their already tearing on mine because I have to force the hands on because the wrist peg is covered so much, so when I push on it, the gauntlet covers tear. I know you can’t see them most the time, but it’s my own personal gripe with the figure.

@@JustinsCollection Do you have any tips for the Darth Maul wrist pegs? It is very difficult for me at least to put the hands on the pegs, and I always have to force the hands on, and even when they are on they’re still loose. I’m a bit scared to attach the hands to the pegs without the horrid wrist covers because I had an experience where I took them off, and put the force push hand onto the peg. Then when I removed the hand the peg then broke and I had to replace it. If you have any tips for putting the hands onto the pegs I would love to know. Keep up with the great content!
I never use the little leather pieces on the arms. I just push up the gauntlets up and you can't tell there's a space there

With Star Wars characters the lightsaber is very loose and falls a lot, so it’s nice that this lightsaber sticks more.

That head sculpt really sells this figure. That’s 100% Ray Park. I guess the positive side to the plastic chair is that you don’t have to worry about it degrading over time, but a soft one would have been nice.

I think you sold me on the Solo Darth Maul. Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn are my favorite characters in the entire saga episodes 1-6 and The Clone Wars. And I already have the Clone Wars Maul, Shock Trooper and 501st preorder and paid off. You can't have to many Maul's.

Not sure if it was mentioned, he is only taller when he has his first set of cybernetic legs that mother talzin gives him, when he gets this set he’s returned back to his regular height thats why he isn’t taller than TPM.

So torn on if I should replace my DX16 with this guy...I think I like this figure more but like you say he's way lighter on accessories 🤔.
In regards to the maul hologram, I think that could maybe work pretty well with the upcoming deathwatch Mando? Not an exact fit but closest I think we may have.

I finally decided to check out the website where I can buy one and was thinking I would pick one up if it was under 100 but then it loaded and the almost 600 price tag smacked me real hard lol, I can dream of being able to afford one of these one day

I agree, I don’t feel like this is a proper dx figure really, the chair isn’t anything too crazy and that big base we’ve seen used time and time again with regular releases and those holograms just don’t add much I think in terms of accessories. Still nice for people to get another shot at Maul and a great review as always Justin!
