Hey Justin. For the shirtless look you supposed to put the belt on to cover the waist band. Great review btw. Excited to get mine.
I’m glad u said this cause I was thinking the same thing. The belt is suppose to be on when he’s shirtless. I always thought it was part of how his robotic bottom was held on. Great vid as always.

It’s been a while since season 7 dropped and since most people watched it. I personally love the look without the shirt and will be displaying like that with my other two Mauls. It’s going to be the Hall of Mauls, haha.
After seeing the different heads on the body i actually think they should have tweaked the phantom menace head/heads instead of using the Solo one, like justin said they could have just given him different horns and i think he would have looked a bit better. I believe he is about 35 at that point in the clone wars

Happy to get him despite the few shortcomings. With all 3 Mauls I want to reorganize the SW display to center around each iteration. He went from a throwaway to one of the most significant characters in the lore. Happy that Howard loves him as much as I do
He is still excellent! Well worth getting sir!
I just had to get this guy because it’s the only version of Maul that really fleshed out his character. All other appearances of Maul were too brief for me to make a real connection with the character.
That being said this is an excellent review, Justin. You thoroughly pointed out all the pros and cons, down to the pleather on the wrist pegs and the reuse of the Wolverine body. I like the hooded look, so I guess I’ll have to play around with it more to make it sit right.

I am actually surprised they didn't end up altering the head sculpt and just reused the Solo Maul one. Either way this figure is a pretty easy pass for me, I also can't get over how goofy he looks shirtless. Great review as always!

I honestly think the phantom menace head works better with this figure than the older solo sculpt they reused. He’s portrayed to look closer to his younger self in clone wars. Either way a really cool figure

Rewatching this video to decide whether this Maul is enough, or if I need the new HT TPM Maul just announced. And yes, I know the outfits are different but to me it's about the face sculpts

Honestly, the Hot Toys magic and the woaw effect is strongly fading for me.
Waiting two years for this is a complete buzzkill. The figure is okay but let's be honest, there is nothing crazy about it and it comes with flaws, flaws that let's face it, shouldn't be there anymore when your name is Hot Toys and when it's the third iteration of the same character that you do.
When I see companies like XM, launching their pre-orders in December for a crazy piece and then releasing it a couple months later ? Come on Hot Toys, really ?
I really hope that InArt will move the lines and force Hot Toys to react. We want better products and way, wayyyyyy less time between the announcement and the release.

To be totally honest I am starting to feel that way myself. I'm looking more towards customs and statues... hopefully hot toys can get that hype back up!
@@webstersempire right ? And what's more absurd, is that we know for fact that Hot toys is able to release a figure in a few months if they want to. They've done it for the Madalorian Armorer, Spiderman Cyborg and others. But a 10th captain America ? Wait 2 to 3 years. A reissue of the iron man MkV ? Still waiting bro...
It makes zero sense, they just take our money and they do whatever they want. And as we said, when the figure comes out, bam, same flaws again and again.
I've reached a point of no return with them. I'm waiting my last avengers to complete my line and I'm done. I've already sold all my star wars figures, keeping my DC and now I'm into statues.
Next 1/6 ? Probably DC figures from InArt.

It is actually accurate to Movie that he holds the Lightsaber at the top. He does it in The Phantom Menace after he fights Qui-Gon Jinn for the first time🤩

I'll probably be putting the DX16 sculpt onto this figure, I don't really like the sculpt they included. It works for the Solo version as he's much older but he looks way too old for Clone Wars Maul imo.
Also in regards to the top of the pants looking unfished, you're supposed to have the belt on even when he's shirtless, I'm pretty sure lore wise the "belt" is how his legs attach to his torso.
To be fair, about 13 years passed from the phantom menace to this version of darth maul. Age kind of looks appropriate
@@johnlupo4371 it still just doesn't look right though, he shouldn't look almost exactly like he does in Solo. In Solo he was 52, in TCW he's only 35.

Finally I got my Maul today! What can be said, he's fucking awesome!!! But the sculpt without a doubt is the exact same hard scuplt, just painted a little darker red, as the Crimson Dawn Darth Maul. But that doesn't bother me. My only complaint is what a pain in the ass it was getting all his plastic and padding off him.

The only way to get the blade to light evenly is to add texture to the surface to catch light. They should mold the clear blade in a matte texture Lightly sanding the blade it will likely have the same result

Great review - as soon as I saw the neck in the SS video, I figured I'd wait for your review lol. Since Clone Wars figures are a thing... I'd love Sidious (unscarred sculpt) from the Maul/Savage fight.

They actually made the clone wars version slightly thinner than the solo one, they even made that announcement when they showed it off

i mean if they would go for plastic for the sarcophagus it would probably it would be out of that cheap clam tray plastic so i much rather have it made of cardboard with a really nice print so i am really happy with how the sarcophagus turned out

I just sold my Crimson Dawn Maul. Needed the money to pay for my upcoming Phase 1 Clone Trooper and Clone Pilot. But before I did I switched out the Clone Wars head put it on the Solo head and put the Solo head on my Clone Wars figure. It's the exact same head but the red on the Solo Maul matches the Clone Wars Maul much, much better. The Phantom Menace will always be my favorite I love the costume and head sculpts especially the sinister look. I may be the only one but I REALLY want another Darth Maul with the mechanical Mother Talzin legs.

I noticed something about the Clone Wars Maul and Crimson Dawn Maul, the Crimson Dawn red head sculpt matches the red body of the Clone Wars Maul better. In turn the Clone Wars Maul's red head sculpt matches the Crimson Dawn red body better.

Awesome fig. I won’t be picking it up because my HT collection is only concentrated on the original SW trilogy and Mandalorian. I like the Clone Wars, but not a fan enough to spend thousands on it. Great Review as always Justin!!

Thank you Justin for this review, you put Sideshow to shame with their first look review showing the figure with a ridiculous long neck, which of course it does not have, watch and learn Sideshow!Love the screaming EP1 Maul sculpt on the figure, i may be tempted to display mine like that.I do agree however that the body underneath should of been a newly sculpted body for this particular version of Maul, seeing Hot Toys gives you the option to have the figure displayed shirtless.As always Justin, a class, concise review, thank you😎

I wish they didn't just reuse the Solo head. It worked for that figure but I'd have preferred something different for this one. Also, I always figured Zabraks just didn't have hair, it's weird seeing chest hair on this guy lol

great review! Thinking about getting this one but using the Solo Maul body and headsculpt for the fully clothed look.
Also, not sure if it's been mentioned already, but he's not using The Wolverine (TTM19 style) body, it's the ANH Han Solo body. I have a couple spares of each and it's definitely not the Wolverine body. With that said, the ANH Han Solo body is definitely too scrawny for Darth Maul, especially the arms.

@@JustinsCollection probably, MAYBE.... But I'm okay with spanning the eras. if I go EP1 maul, I can skip obi-qgj (saving 2 of the 5 spots) and gun for Luke as my jedi. I figured maybe a clone, a bounty hunter, a jedi, a sith, and wildcard. so many choices hahaha. Maybe Vader just because of his legacy. Maybe I'll shit the bed and get a droid??? we shall see!

Sorry I keep bugging you, but I consider you THE Hot Toys expert, I'm curious on your Clone Wars Maul his right gauntlet that opens so you can turn the lightsaber on, I know it's supposed to shut and lock in place. But mine keeps popping open it doesn't look bad but it's the point, dose yours stay locked in place or dose it stay opened to?
Luckily this time mine works just fine, not sure how to fix that for you unfortunately!

My #1 complaint is he’s a little on the thin side, looks great in his clothing but shirtless I think he could of been bulked up a bit to fit Ray Parks body type rather than a cartoon, which is the impression I get.

Thanks for the review. The painted-on fingernails were odd. Couldn't find any definitive pictures of his hands to determine if they were accurate or not. The part of the figure that seems too wide is the buckled piece around his waist. Maybe when he is shirtless, it is fine, but something doesn't look quite right to me about it when he was fully clothed. The Phantom Menace head sculpt looked fantastic on the figure. I think it might be that the colors between the body and head are not as divergent as the head sculpt that came with the figure. Single bend elbow, sigh. Pass.

doesn't look too great with his shirt off tbh. I would never display him that way so having single jointed elbows just kind of defeat the whole purpose. I'd swap them out with generic double elbow bend arms.

First thanks for this review! Hot toys is dropping the ball. Come on! Two head sculpts should’ve been included with this Maul. Definitely an angry look! Different red on body from head what!!! Unacceptable! Single joint elbow!! No no no. Hot toys is not giving a $….t anymore! They are getting sloppy! Come on Queen Studios let’s get the 1/6 scale rights for Star Wars and Marvel. Then we’ll see Hot Toys get back to form.

Not super accurate? the CW Maul looks more like the Phantom Menace one than the Solo one, so the sculpt they used isn't accurate
