Love how they got Sam Witwer recording over Ray Park’s body for consistency. But I thought Maul lost control over his crime syndicate by this point.
Presumably he got it back after going free.
That was 15 years before the Rebels.
He was still allied with Dryden Vos and The Pykes at the time
This point is the height of his power. In the comics, the shadow collective quickly devolved and fell apart.

I must say,Maul was one of the most underrated and underdeveloped character and become one of the coolest and more developed character in all the franchise
What a badass character
even in that scene they show Maul's Beskar armor which he presumably wore when he was Mandalore
He's the best Sith Lord, regardless of who he would lose against, and a greatly put together character, especially in season 7 of The Clone Wars. He was used in that season as a sort of foreboding messenger, the only character who knew what was coming (other than Palpatine). Seeing the ruler on the underworld and an ex Sith Lord who murdered a Jedi Knight and was taught by Darth Sidious in absolute fear, anxiety, and the feeling that we've all had before when you know what's about to happen and you know you can't stop it: helplessness. He was an amazing character who was put to amazing use as an antagonist and plot device. Also, he looks fucking great.

Maul is also able to show honor and leadership throughout his story.
A character i love
I’d say he got a lot of development bc of the comics and shows, movies didn’t do him justice but after wa5ching clone wars and seening him, it’s an equally exiting feeling as if Vader shows up

Darth Maul was meant to return in the sequels, but then Disney bought Star Wars.
What’s cool is that for this movie it says Sam Witner plays “Maul” but in the Clone Wars, it says he plays “Darth Maul.”

@@dereksantillan6297He hadn't been Darth Maul since Obi-Wan "killed" him. He was just Maul after that and no longer a Sith Lord.
Thats because hes no longer a sith lord after obi wan slices him like bread. Darth is a sith title. Losing to obi wan stripped him of the title while he healed in exile. Then when hes ready to fight again and take back his title he starts to call himself Darth again. The rule of 2 makes it so there can only be 2 sith alive at a time.
I mean, I know this is just fan service, but this darth maul's return is pretty damn sick
I always thought bringing back Darth Maul was too much. Out of all the ridiculous things people wrote in the comics (Boba Fett dueling Darth Vader with a lightsaber, Lando being pansexual, etc), they decided to make Darth Maul wearing spider legs after being cut in half and falling 1000 meters canon. I liked it better when Obi Wan was the first Jedi to kill a Sith in over a thousand years and Maul wasn't a monologuing Saturday morning cartoons villain. Reinstating characters after they've already died and giving them another character arc takes a lot of importance out of the story, lessens the stakes, and makes the possibility of death mean nothing. Feels cheap and meaningless, just like what the MCU has become.
@Danny I can agree with this. The idea of bringing back Palpatine in the newer films was also very dumb.
I however am glad they brought back Maul specifically bc it allowed them to do more with a character that otherwise would have been a "wow look how badass that dude is! And he's dead.."
@@elijahbowen1599 There's a big movement to bring Mace Windu back and I just don't get it. I love Mace and I love Maul but they served their purpose in a larger story. I think anything before their deaths is fair game and I have no problem with their early lives being explored on-screen ala this movie about Han Solo but post-death? 👎

@@edrrrk that's not the same version of Maul number 1, this is a later version of Maul at the height of his power (that he got to in canon), and number 2 Vader is less powerful than Palpatine by quite a good bit, so losing to Palpatine doesn't have anything to do with this

This movie was underrated. It felt more like Star Wars than all of the Sequel trilogy combined in my opinion. Wish it got more love so that they continued this plot line. I was excited AF when I saw this.

It's a good movie but Han's character especially when not played by Ford isn't really that interesting. It would have been better if it was just some random characters doing their own random thing in SW universe

Love how you can just see the age and wear in Maul with this scene.
I like that even though Kira is tough and badass in her own right, she showed the proper respect to Maul here. She very well should be this terrified of him.
I think he's the only reason she couldn't leave with Han was cause Maul would figure out what happened and Hunt them down

Love how holograms can now suddenly transmit shades of red to aid in the audience’s recollection of this character.
Oh, and just as a secondary wallop to the head, he’ll ignite his double-sided lightsaber for no reason since he’s the only Star Wars film character to have one, apparently.
Holograms have shown color plenty of times before, especially in the original trilogy.
As for the lightsaber, it’s perfectly believable that Maul would use it for intimidation.

Bring maul back in live action
That was rhe original plan for the sequel trilogy. Luke and Leia were working together to stabilize the new republic and to bring back the jedi order. The big bad sith was darth maul who spent the whole time getting stronger with his new apprentice (she was a sith version of ashoka if I remember correctly) trying to stop the jedi order from reforming while Leia had to deal with the new order. Been and Rey would have still been a part of it (with different names) just Rey would have been Luke's kid and Ben would still have been a solo with one eventually falling to the dark side.

Pay the royalties to the original writers and make dozens of movies off everything from thrawn, the vong, and caedus. They could use the same dialogue from the books, and hamill is at the perfect age for the last two series. But they had to Disney it up like they did with marvel and everything else lol

In some ways we got an amazing choreographed maul fight in the clone wars final as ray parks was performing in motion capture against ahsoka but yeah it would be awesome on big screen

I kinda hated this ending and thought it ruined the movie. It's a great twist, but it means we end on a cliffhanger with unanswered questions. I also feel like this film was a great "stand-alone" one, a fun start for newbies to the franchise, but then this ending happened and that ruined that.

Presumably costs a lot more than Sam, I'm pretty sure Peter has expressed disinterest in reprising the role, and Sam has really put in the work and made the role his own over the years.

I'm sure Peter could have given us a lot more memorably material if George Lucas had written more than one scene with Maul speaking, but as it is, Sam's iteration is a lot more developed.
