To this day you can’t convince me Garcia won this fight. Atleast zombie got his vindication in the rematch
and in very flashy style!
They split the 1st 2 rounds. The 3rd round was close. I had them even at 25 strikes, but KZ was walking LG down and had LG in trouble with some hard strikes along the cage, so I think KZ edged out the 3rd.
Still, watching this again, that 3rd round was close. Regardless, this fight made KZ a fan favorite, and Zombie's evolution after this fight only helped.

In the third round with Holloway, KZ seemed to want to finish with the KZ we're most excited about.

I was 9 years old when I first watched this fight. I remember going crazy with my dad seeing these 2 go to war. From that day on I kept up with all the other mma fights that I could with my dad. This fight made me a die hard MMA fan. I’m grateful for both these guys always.

TKZ has come a long way. He still has the brawl in him, but he's a much more disciplined fighter now.

@@madgavin7568 Zombie looked off against Ortega but looked very good in his last fight. I think Zombie would get the better of Yair on the mat tho while Yair has a slight edge on the feet. I could even see Ortega and Zombie beating Max possibly. With Zombie I feel he’s a bad matchup for Max but with Ortega it’s kind of like Max has every advantage and should win but if Ortega gets the neck it’s over. For some reason if Ortega vs Yair happens I’ve got Yair by devastating flying knee KO considering Ortega’s sloppy wrestling and how much damage he’s taken.

I don't like this 'so and so looked off' excuse because Ortega was technically superior to Zombie, who allowed Ortega to just work him because styles make fights. Also after Ortega landed the spinning elbow, Zombie himself admitted he was on auto-pilot for the remainder of the fight. Instead of making excuses for the fan favourite, start praising Ortega for his technical brilliance that fight.

One of the greatest promotional debuts in MMA history. Zombie came in a complete unknown and created a fight of the year with Garcia. A laughable but intriguing nickname literally came to life and resonated into the concious of everyone who witnessed. Iconic moments, but that 17 piece combo in the second round was amazing.

I've been a fan of both fighters, Leonard long before this and Zombie following this fight. I have watched every fight they have ever had since and they never fail to put on a show. I hope to see both these guys in the hall someday, they both deserve it just for their two fights alone.

Watching this one back again after TKZs retirement fight, he was such a legend, his fights with poirier and Yair ajd of course the finishes over Hominick, Garcia, Moicano, Edgar, and many others come to mind but this is the beginning (UFC/WEC speaking) of the legend, he is one of the few who's legacy is there with or without the belt
