Zombies retirement was one of the saddest to watch. This sport is changing so fast.
I dont think it was sad, it was time and he went out like a warrior and with alot of love, knowing he had to take so much time off I'd say he had a great career.

Ppl forget that after his military service which was 2 yrs, he came back and then tore his ACL training. So he lost 3.5 yrs of his prime, he couldve easily held the strap, or at least an interim which would totally solidify his Hall of Fame resume.

In the match against Yair Rodriguez, Zombie was winning, but lost Ko after rushing to his opponent until 1 second before the end of the game.
In the match against Holloway, despite big damage in the 2 round, but he rushed to his opponent in the 3 round and lost KO heroically.
As he said himself, he tried to fight to the end to entertain the fans and that's why we loved zombies.
That Yair elbow haunts me till this day. But yea you can tell that he was trying to entertain the crowd. If he wanted to just win, he could have just fought passively in the last minute.

Sad to see that he retired but it has to be the best one done with the fans singing his song as he left the octagon and him.and his wife crying was so good wish he took longer to walk back that way the fans had a chance to do the whole song but it was epic. They did it for his bday as well couple of days ago at a concert in korea
I felt it was played the appropriate amount of time. Hopefully they played it through even after they took the camera off him, but it was the perfect walkoff, almost shed a tear
I really wish whoever took that glove will give it back and apologize.

I’m super confused. I watched the video back like 6 times. He held the gloves with his left hand.. a “fan” tried to take them.. tkz had a death grip so the “fan” didn’t get the gloves.. then tkz switched the gloves into his right hand & tossed them into the crowd.
@@KarateScottylol, he was in the moment after getting ko'd and retiring and having an entire arena shower him with praise by singing along to his song, needless to say he wasn't thinking straight but now that he is he regrets not keeping the last gloves he fought with.

Tony Ferguson is who Ariel is referring to. But there are many others. The worst case in history is BJ Penn. He is truly a Phenom, Pioneer, and Legend. But his long and brutal losing streak, along with his out-of-cage antics, affected his legacy a lot. Sad. Zombie is wise to recognize that his chin is gone and retire while he still has his wits.

Zombie was living in the moment and gave the fans something special throwing his retirement gloves into the stands. Usually fighters will either save them or auction them off. Zombie always had my respect, but now he has gained my love.
Edit: Damn i just watched the whole video cause its Zombie and now he wants the gloves back, LOL. They are special, especially for him. If the UFC loves him that much they should buy it back for him.

Wish he didn't have to waste his best years in the army. He could have had a real shot at the title.
True, but the real slide was the loss to Rodriguez. I think the time off for Zombie allowed him to heal from his wars early in his career and made him develop into a devastating counter striker.
He got two shots at the title and retired a legend, so it was a very worthwhile career either way.
Ps. The biggest thing that shortened Zombie’s career was his defensive irresponsibility. His footwork was too planted and slow to have a hands-down style during exchanges.
@@TheThigh He did absorb a lot of punishment to earn the moniker of Zombie. That loss to Rodriguez was really unfortunate tho. He could have won that fight on decision if he didn’t get complacent and eat that elbow out of nowhere.
