Woodturning Experiment Part 2 - Can This Bowl Be Saved?

  • The conclusion to my dyed oak bowl saga. If you missed part 1, I started woodturning a bowl from an oak log and decieded to try my hand at a new wood dying technique of adding wood dye to my shellac. It did not turn out well but as you'll see in this video, I did not give up. This woodturning / bowl turning video shows that is ok to try something new and fail at it. You can always just turn some more wood away and give it another shot. So thank you for watching my wood turning journey.
    If you enjoy woodturning, bowl turning, epoxy resin work, as well as woodworking in general then feel free to subscribe so that you're notified when new videos are released! Thank you for helping my dream grow.

    Who am I? I am a husband and father. I've spent my life supporting my family with my bare hands as a proud tradesman. I have worked as an electrician most of my life in plants or the oilfield. I have recently turned my hobby into a career and work full time for a custom woodworking shop while still presuing my dream to one day support my family with my own custom woodworking shop. This is me, taking my shot, from my tiny shed shop in east Texas. I'm using my two hands to build a foundation for my family. By purchasing from my store you're not just buying a unique, handcrafted item, you're supporting a craftsman. I'm chasing my dream of creating a self-supporting small business. Your support is making it possible. Thank you!

    Woodturning and resin turning are incredibly fun hobbies to get into. As you can see by this video you can definitely get very creative. Looked great, Brad. It's amazing how a "mistake" came around and sold so quickly. Take care.

      I know right! Even had the price kinda high to deter buyers. Crazy

    I've compared Acks, Yorkshire, and Brad's...I dare say Brad's is on par with Yorkshire and stellar cystomer service with Brad so I'll be a repeat visitor

      I use both Ack's and Brad's for different applications. Brad's ALWAYS to cut back shellac before adding the Tung Wax. Makes a beautiful deep glow.

    Has just enough of the teal, turquoise color to give it a unique look. No wonder why it sold so damn fast. I liked the experiment aspect of the whole thing.

      It was pretty cool on the rim. I'm still experimenting and have had some cool art pieces i've done with various mica powders added to shellac. Just need to get motivated to turn the camera back on

    I haven't compared others yet but I will just to be fair and experiment. I can't see any flaws in his finishes. It's changed my finishes for the better

      Finishing is very subjective. Just like matte vs gloss. The important thing is u find what works best for you 👍

    The bowl came out beautiful. I fully understand it selling first off the bat. I would love to know more about the tung butter. What can you/will you tell me about it? If your still testing I’d be willing to try it out for you

    • @wahtiewoodturning
      @wahtiewoodturning Před 2 lety +2

      I had the opportunity to test the Tung Butter. It is an AMAZING addition to your finishing arsenal!

    • @RatedRWoodturning
      @RatedRWoodturning  Před 2 lety

      Same ingredients as tung wax just different ratios. More tung oil, less wax to allow for deeper penetration for off lathe finishing. But alot are still using it on the lathe as well.
