- The Toyota Pickup build continues and instead of a build this has become a full on restoration project. It's gotten way out of hand and I'm in over my head but it's gonna be worth it when finished!

I installed a bed slide in my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, standard cab, short bed 4 x 4 in 2017. I volunteer twice a month at a local food pantry to haul food from the location where it is bagged up to my church about 30 miles away for distribution to needy families. Mine is rated for 1000 pounds. And I’ve used it every two weeks since 2017. I’ve loved it from the first time I put a load on it. I’m 77 years old and it definitely saves my back from having to crawl up in there to load and unload my truck. I know your father will absolutely love it as much as I like mine.I know your father is going to greatly appreciate what you’ve done for him by fixing up his truck. Love watching your channel subscribed. Keep up the good videos.
38:00 Holy cow that quick full engine swap 😳😱 and many 👏👍 to Josh for alllll that bodywork 💕👍
Josh really needs a mic. Like me, he talks quietly.
Over time, the valve lash can get tighter because the valves will wear into the seats. This is a really cool project that you are doing for your dad.
Getting closer to finished. Glad you were able to get your Daughter's car repaired and back to her.
I am definitely jealous you guys have a beautiful lunch lady in my opinion lunch is definitely an important part of the day.
I hope that we will be able to see the lovely Hope involved in videos when possible
The baby is finally here we are so excited to be able to take her wheeling the first time. Mainly though my wife and me are excited to get out and have some fun gonna have to hire a sitter and warm up the truck. We got out in snow a little bit but baby was with us so only spun tires a small bit which she loved!!!! She gonna love riding and wheeling.
Huge fan of the channel! Valve clearance gets tighter because the valve face and or seat wears seating the valve deeper in the head and moving the stem towards the rocker arm. I ran into the exact same issue with body shops only wanting to do jobs for insurance claims when "pimping" my wife's 20000 Mustang. Keep up the good work!
its ashame they dont want the work even if you're willing to pay for it.
Matt the solution to the yellowing plastics is very close to what you were doing with the hydrogen peroxide. The term you are looking for is "retrobrighting" there is a channel on CZcams called odd experiments that explains it. Basically you just need uv light and foil besides what u were doing
Love the way you mounted the control panel.
Your valve clearance tightens because the valve reseeds into the seat faster that the hardened tip and rocker wears. Which more or less means the valve stem install height gets taller and you have to loosen the lash.
That little Ford did not look that old, and it needs a new motor?!? You’re a great Dad for doing that job so quickly, and a FANTASTIC son for the effort & love you’re putting in Dad’s ride. 🙂❤️
Thanks 👍ya that car isn't that old but had a bad head gasket for a while. Looks like the previous owner hid that from us.
i painted my dads jeep in my 12x20 tarp shelter. It wasnt perfect but he didnt want to spend much on it. In fact he bought 2 quarts of black rust paint.
For my first and only back yard resto it turned out great, he drove it for another 5 years after that and sold it. Still looked great.
Every paint job I've seen from Maaco has looked horrible if they did the body work and prep.
But on ones that had all the prep work done and just needed paint/clear, were actually pretty good looking paint jobs
Great job guys. Thank you 😊 oh. And bring the truck to Robby Layton for the paint 🎨 job. 😊
Collision shops are hard pressed to do complete paints because it's very expensive and a lot of people don't wanna pay it so they turn down completes in favor of all the work they have coming in from insurance. There should be some options other than maaco there's usually an in between shop above maaco
As i was enjoying your video I saw a glaring safety issue, the Creeper laying on the floor, around the corner of the Toyota, would be very easy for 1 of you to walk around the front to the truck and step on the creeper and take a terrible fall..It is a large pet peeve of mine that a creeper is left on the floor, the padded head rest is designed to rest against the body of an auto and not scratch the paint when it is stored properly upright…I had it drilled into me at an early age , when you get off your back from a creeper and you stand up, you Stand the creeper up against the side of the auto…Safety First
Oh Matt, you're a great son for doing that for your dad. You could have saved yourself a lot of time and money by gifting him that beautiful Grand Cherokee ZJ Orvis Edition you tied a semi truck pull strap around the engine to and destroyed it after you rolled it down a hill.
Very true! But then you wouldnt get to see it fly through the air!
I have a '96 Tacoma 4x4 that I have owned since it had 7 miles on it... I would love to have it painted. Last estimate was over 7k. No rust, just a few rock chips and a dent here and there... 7k.
Some of us old guys have been modifying and adding car stereo equipment, 8 tracks, cassettes and CB Radios since the early 70’s. And, some of us still do, and even use Blue tooth. I appreciate what you are doing for your Dad. Not a fan of the rear hub mod. Thanks.
I wouldnt spend all that money worring about a paint booth! Just finished mine in the dustiest shop you ever seen! just run two wires and drape plastic over top and two cheep box fans wet floor down. If you get a little dust just buff it out will look show quality If he really knows what hes doing! In years past Ive shot a few outside in early morning when dead calm. Clearcoat is crazy forgiving when buffing.
It is coming along nicely!! I think your Dad is really gonna like all the upgrades when he sees them! Thank you so much for sharing and looking forward to the next
Spent way too much time working on the 22re, head gasket, timing cover gaskets, replace rod and main bearings after pulling th oil pan off, starter, alternator. Stripped out the back spark plug hole and learned how to use helicoil. FUN TIMES
The valves seem to get tighter cause the valve seats get worn, its pretty common on the DD15 engines I work on. It kinda shaves the edges of the valve down till it pops exhaust back through into the intake. Or till it chips a piece of the valve off and then it needs a new head.
I really enjoy the love behind this refresh/rebuild
Totally normal for valves to get tighter, couple of reasons. The valve stems slowly stretch and the valve seats slowly deform and recess into the head. Very common. When the valves start getting loose you are getting excessive wear on the valve tip and rocker, Generally oil related. I tend to go .001 tight on all my 22re valves.
Here where I am from there are tons of body guys who paint cars at home on the side, and do just as good of job as they do at work.
😀 ha it’s really coming along, josh sure does have has plenty of skills under his belt 👍
I wish i had a lunch lady with a big beautiful smile that also comes in after hours to help out 😁 you’re gonna have to give her a raise now 😉 😂🤣
Your dad's truck is looking great! It's hard to find anyone that does paint anywhere anymore.
The valves and seats wear in causing the valve to get tighter. If u don’t adjust the valves the valves will start to hang open and burn the valves .
You did a GREAT JOB on that outro, Lun... er, ummmmm, Hope!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Great job boys! Coming along nicer than any truck I've owned. I cant wait til my mj is done I'm making a trip East, at least a few hours to NM lol.
I injoy watching you thank you.
Great idea on the hubs. Maintaince on your dad’s truck, good son! 🤙😎
Getting closer.
15:53 : yup, basically what all my grand parents auto visors looked like. Kleenex and all …
Excellent content. Can't wait for the reveal. Thanks, guys.
Matt, you have to break it to her that the "lunch lady" moniker is going to stick. ( I think for us it already has? lol). She should own it proudly...🤓
Thanks for another great video.
good stuff y'll
Ran into the same problem a few years ago that local body shops only want to do insurance work. Makes you wonder why that pays so much more..
im not sure, I was willing to pay but they didnt even want to bother
@@bleepinjeep Did you ask Wades body shop in Oliver Springs? They have done good work for me and they are dirt track guys. Seems like they might be more willing to do it than a shop in Knox.
maps.app.goo.gl/JhDW3kK1viBicE9N9
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Really cool. I wonder if it would be helpful to label the videos like a how-to, maybe people looking for how to do body work could then find it, valve job, etc. Like your old how-to ones.
Valve lash tightens over time on ovherhead cams. The valve wears the seat and in so doing makes the valve receed farther into the seat, therefore closing the lash gap.
Glad the lunch lady is there to help you.
You should do a collaboration with the fellas at Goonsquad down in Chattanooga - they have a brand new paint booth in their back yard.
Inflatable paint booth, check it out not a bad idea
This is such a fun project, you are doing great with it. I kind of hoped that you would put another engine in it, but the original is a quality piece so why change it :)
And its allways a pleasure to see Hope in the videos, she can sure bringten any day.
You should put box liner
Starts like a Renix XJ
Body filler in Australia is commonly referred to as bog.
Fine job guy's, your dad is gonna love it. Only part I don't like Matt is the speakers are covered up behind the seat ( come on man ) lol. Can't wait to see it done with the bigger tires on it. Thanks for the video guy's.
not much room for speakers in this tiny cab but they are just acting as bass anyway.
So… here’s a question. Josh pointed out some areas of rust he needed to address on the bedsides of the truck. How did you actually stop that from growing? Cause if you just exterior surface sanded, filled and painted that, it’ll still come back through the new paint worse than ever. If you’ve got paint level bubbling from rust, it’s cause that shit is coming through the entire metal from the back side and nothing you do at the paint level is gonna stop it from growing far worse…..
There's no rust on this truck
Matt, perhaps you could contact the Goonzquad guys in Chattanooga to use their paint booth. Crossover episode?
those guys have a paint booth?
Josh you’re giving Robbie Layton a heart attack😂
I got a better storage solution for behind the seat, and it's called an extended cab. I did this to my rig for extra storage space, I also got rid of the bench seat and went with SR5 buckets. Center console parts and pieces came out of a 4Runner. The money I would have spent on a stereo system of sorts went into the actual truck and over 10 years now and still no stereo system but plenty of additions to the truck.
The only thing I can say about this generation of truck just like the prior generation is parts are increasingly getting harder to find. So any modification to the stock components could be etched in stone for some reason down the line minds get changed.
nothing changed here that couldnt go back to stock if needed.
Was thinking about all the extra holes drilled into pieces of the truck, those are more permanent.
what is the name of the organizer for the back wall off the truck
How about Launch mama. 😅
@RobbyLayton will do it. You can bring it home after the off road games.
Where did you get storage pouches attached to back of the cab? Need!!!!
Mud River Makes it: amzn.to/3Sq5vcE
What about between the cab and bed area?
Unless there is a large leak, I'd continue to use the R12 on the A/C. Most of the A/C specialist shops have R12 stashed for maybe $100 a lb. It works way better than R134a unless you do a complete R134a condenser and evaporator replacement.
how many lbs does it take? Is that only old stock or do they make new R12?
@@bleepinjeep Those A/C specialty shops have new old R12...in bulk 30 lb tanks as well as maybe those 1 lb cans. As long as you haven't got leaks, pay the high price of R12. There should be an A/C info sticker under the hood. Likely around 2 ish lbs if its empty. In any case, its a must to Evacuate/Vacuum the system out first then replace your R12 to be sure all moisture is boiled out. R12 is no longer sold from distributors in the USA but its still made in other countries. Just like residential R22, no longer sold but its still made in other countries such as Mexico etc.
Do a simple LCE header on the 22RE with a 4-wire O2 sensor. You won't regret it. Just saying.....
You going to fill in the original bumper holes..?
All this snow we had and my Jeep down 😢 my radiator is busted. I’ve not been able to get out of the house for 5 days! Yesterday was the 1st day I was able to get out.
Here in lenoir city we got alot more snow then they originally thought. What did yall get in Kingston?
Got 9 inches here, and then that has been slowly turning to ice. Today the roads are the worst they have been yet.
Can you wire the VoSwitch to run the winch in and out?
You could, the buttons can be programmed for momentary, flash, and strobe. And of course, on-off
The valves get tighter on exhaust due to valve pocketing
Y’all get good snow up there?
we did, 9 inches
Nice truck looks like a 22 R or a 20 R motor myself like those motors because it had a cast iron engine block I have herd as much as 600.000 miles on those motors Toyota big mistake all aluminum motor my sister kid had 2006 the Head bolts strip them self out of the block Toyota Dealer wanted $10.000 to repair the car now Cadillac has a repair kit comes with a extra Long drill bit and other thing you need they drill the engine block and retap the threads like in stall those thread coils in the block machine shop mite charge $30.00 to retap those threads for each Head bolt
Which size is that Bed Slide, need one for my ‘91?
its the 6' one
It’s ironic that both you guys and Dave Chappelle are doing body work at the same
I am wondering if that engine shimmy at start up has anything to do with motor mounts?
We just replaced all the mounts, pretty sure that's normal you just don't typically stare into the engine bay during start up.
@@bleepinjeep thats right, you did. Whoops. Probably. Loving the upgrade
you wife is so lovely 😁 and the rest of you 😁
Take it robbie Layton he is a CZcams also and he is one bad ass painter he painted Ed golden nugget and Matt's jeep and now he is painting bomb bee matt snow cat really good guy robbie Layton nation Ephraim utah

Yeah now u mention it don't have the memory I used to after my stroke
❤Team BJ 👍😎✊
17:41 no cap
Do you mind sharing the item # for the Amazon back seat organizer?
amzn.to/3Sq5vcE. The nice one I got is made by mud river but I dont see it currently on Amazon
@@bleepinjeep no problem I found a similar one. Thanks
Hi I really love your show you really do a great job I will always praying 🙏 for you and your wife and your family and friends ok you have a wonderful day and have a good night and day ok love Lorilee xoxoxoxox can you do more new show for all of us please thank you sosososo much we will be waiting for you ok love Lorilee xoxoxoxox 🙏 😊 😘
Inflatable paint booth incoming??
👌👍☕cz
Robby Layton
Just saw vevor advertising blow up booths for under $300.
You chould contact robby laytln for that paint job
Get a 4 poinder
Your valve tolerances get tighter instead of getting looser, because your valve steams will stretch ever so slightly over time! Which in turn lessens the gap.
Your wonderful wife is right, stop calling her the lunch lady!!! 🙄
I think she secretly likes it
Rear lockout cover.. really? Lol
its gonna be great!
How about 'the sexy lunch lady'?
Well matt you left yourself open for ridicule just saying knob polishing 😂😂😂😂
lol, I think that must be a UK thing?
Bro..... don't do that fake locking hub in the rear. That is dumb.
Get shorter center caps if you want to but make it period correct if you're going to restore it. Closed in the rear and open or no center caps in the front would be period correct.
Also, the speaker boxes behind the seat is dumb. They'll be bouncing, rattling and moving constantly. Having 4 speakers and an amplifier in a cab that small is just not necessary. I realize Kenwood/JVC gave you the stereo but don't be ridiculous
I'm a little disappointed with the speaker setup given how much you've mentioned the importance of music to your dad. Kinda surprised you Jeep guys didn't decide to build or modify a soundbar for over the back window.
The cab is too small. Your head rests against the back window. These are just subs, there's more speakers.
Someone has to say it... @38:21 is that SpongeBob underwear?
lol, no its Shinesty but thanks for noticing 😁
@@bleepinjeep SPONSORSHIP opportunity! hahahaha
Matt you should be ashamed of yourself letting your daughter drive a Ford. Poor girl
your a flap disc. this truck isn't going to look much different it was in great condition to start with
This put me to sleep
Them wheels look cheap as hell 👎👎👎👎
We havent even shown you the wheels yet, they are still in boxes.?,.?
@paintsociety and @bodyvision are your Boys !! 4 Real..
I'd check and make sure those valve clearances are supposed to be at operating temperature. Typically they're set cold.
