Maybe he was just cash strapped and couldn't see another way. Went the wrong way and was out of his element and got caught up. I imagine he thought it would be easier since he was around rich people of all sorts, so it would be like his people being on the block back when . Dude was just naive and misled. My family used to visit Dallas each year and we met Sam and his wife every time we came down. He was a really nice guy, spent a lot of time with us, and even gave us his personal cell phone when we were just kids telling us to text him whenever. It was sad to see this happen.

I’m from the DFW area and got a chance to meet Sam at church as a teen. He was a really cool and was putting us young dudes on game about life and how to make it in whatever we want....A few years later, when this story came out I was SHOOK. It’s always the folks you never expect lol

I was in 6th grade-7th grade when he made it to the league. He went to the rival high school of my school. Everyone from San Antonio, especially the south side of San Antonio was so excited for this guy. Someone making it big. And then when all of this came out, I could physically feel the disappointment throughout the city.

This is sad. Here’s a guy who had every opportunity to set himself up for life and a series of poor judgements took that away.
Sam is a good guy. I did time with him at Bastrop FCI. We were in the same unit and hung out frequently throughout the day. He was going through a tough time in between contracts. He was trying to take care of his family and friends and was broke after his first contract.

He couldn't do NFL or ESPN cause their a lot of stuff they can't talk about or mention. Idk if you listen to sports talk radio but there plenty of times if they have someone from ESPN or the NFL their restrictions on what they can or can not say or talk about. Kinda like commentor of major sports team are restricted in what they can say. Mainstream media especially in sports is very controlled.

Sam Hurd. I was shocked when this story came out. Loved him on the Cowboys. Very solid and dependable player. Spent a year in Chicago, then this story came out. It was truly shocking.
