  • That0therGeorge discuses nostalgia in media and how some pieces of media like 'Better Call Saul' do an excellent job with it. Whereas pieces of media like 'The Mandalorian' fall into the trap of becoming "Nostalgia over Substance".

    Excellent analysis. Andor really is the only piece of contemporary Star Wars that managed to tell an utterly original story and combine the nostalgia of the used universe look with a nuanced depiction of both the Rebellion's idealism and the Empire's deadly but also self-absorbed evil nature.

      Thank you! Yes, 'Andor' is certainly a good example of Star Wars nostalgia in recent times.

    Ayo! We met on Steam over 5 years ago and I wanted to stop by to see how you were doing 5 years later. Your production has jumped GREATLY. You've moved further away from the IHE aesthetic you used to go for and adopted your own thing and it's great! Keep up the amazing work!

      Hello there and yes I do remember! How have you been?
      Thank you so much for the kind words, this was incredibly nice to read.
      I was defiantly influenced by IHE when I first started video essays/reviews, but I do like to think that have developed my own thing over time, so I'm glad you can see that.
      Thanks again!

    What's extra frustrating for Mando is that The Dark Troopers also hold nostalgia for people like me who remember the stuff that's non-canon now.
    The Dark Troopers were introduced in Star Wars: Dark Forces as the main threat, and they're the hardest enemies in the game. Their MK.2 models even yield you one of the most powerful weapons in that game. The Dark Troopers also make somewhat of an appearance in the original Battlefront games.
    Seeing them brought back here was almost a sign of "Oh no, the Dark Troopers that are actually a threat are now cannon again." But it's relegated to making them even more cannon fodder to a cameo from a CGI Skywalker.
    Then again, I'm biased. Probably because Dark Forces is one of the best things out of the old EU of Star Wars and they're doing everything they can to keep it out of cannon now.

      I was not aware of that, thank you very much for adding it.
      I can completely understand that someone like you would be let down by the Dark Troopers. I was let down by them, even without the EU knowledge

    Andor deserved so much more attention. Together with rogue one it is the only peace of disney sw content that doesn't preach to you and tells an interesting story with characters and not just 'latest trend' mannequins. Great video as always.

      @That0therGeorge  Před rokem

      Agreed, it's a real shame that 'Andor' went under the radar. I think 'Rogue One' has *some* superficial elements to it, but overall I'd agree that it's a good movie.
      And thank you very, I appreciate it!

    The only reason people watched the Flash was definitely for the Nostalgia

    • @That0therGeorge
      @That0therGeorge  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah, absolutely. Even then, Michael Keaton's Batman still wasn't enough to save the box office of that movie. Crazy to think about how much less it would have made if he wasn't present.
      Thank you for watching the video by the way.

      @@That0therGeorge I think I might watch Ahsoka , but other than that I think I’m pretty much done with Star Wars:(, just going to be rewatching the clone wars lol

      @@lebarondevalois605 I think I probably will as well. I just can't help but be curious about the direction of Star Wars at the moment. I'm sure there will be a point where I draw the line, but for now I'm still interested and slightly more optimistic after 'Andor'.

    Great stuff, the lack of originality means these guys are pulling all cards they can possible. Great point in a whole universe as a backdrop, a creative bankrupt series like Star Wars can't even muster an original idea without heavily drawing on the past means Disney's lost the plot.... Subscribers are down on Disney Plus too

    • @That0therGeorge
      @That0therGeorge  Před rokem +1

      Thank you!
      And that was well put. The issue with relying so much on the past is that you're only going to have a finite amount of things to bring back. Despite 'The Force Awakens' being very well received at release, it didn't take too long for people to catch on.

    I quit SW TV after mando s1...except for obi-wan(ugh) but I did go back for Andor❤. Thanks for filling me in on how unfulfilling the rest has been.

    I don't mind Luke killing all the dark troopers with ease because it kinda puts in perspective how much more powerful Luke is compared to Mando who struggled. I pretty much agree with every other point though.

    • @That0therGeorge
      @That0therGeorge  Před rokem

      Fair enough. For me personally I thought it was lame to build the Dark Troopers up as such a huge threat, just to be killed off very unceremoniously

    Obi-Wan Kenobi. Enough said

    • @That0therGeorge
      @That0therGeorge  Před rokem +3

      'Obi-Wan Kenobi' was certainly bad for it, but I would personally argue that Mando/Boba Fett are worse in that regard.
      Don't get me wrong, I thought Kenobi was terrible and I'd rate it lower overall. I just think at the very least the whole conflict with Darth Vader was part of the actual story from episode to episode. Rather than the hollow cameos present in Mando/Boba Fett.

    3:38 Andor definitely had its moments of nostalgia-baiting. The crystal Luthen gave to Cassian was a crystal about commemoration of the fall of the Rakatan Empire, which is a decanonized Evil Empire from Knights of the Old Republic game. Also the Starkiller armor on Luthen's emporium, but that was not on purpose.
