- That0therGeorge discusses why Anti-Heroes are so effective in movies, video games & TV shows. He uses John Wick, The Bride (Kill Bill) & Walter White (Breaking Bad) as examples of excellent Anti-Heroes to explore this subject.

Alright, guess I'll rewatch Breaking Bad now
I also think Arthur Morgan is an incredible antihero and Dutch Van Der Linde an incredible villain
George!! So nice to see you again! I absolutely appreciate the new videos you share! Yes, anti-heroes are truly amazing characters. They each have a lot of complexities that share their light and darkness. This is yet another awesome video and I loved the details! Awesome video as always man!
Thank you very much Mac & yeah it was always a topic I wanted to explore. The Anti-Hero archetype has always been super interesting to me
The king is back to talk about the best show ever. 2021 is already a top tier year.
Hahahahahah thank you very much! And yes it is the best show ever!
Great video! Glad to see another video from ya!
Thank you very much dude, felt good to upload again
Another great video
Thank you!
Awesome video, thanks for uploadt!
One small note; The car he buys isn't a bentley continental GT. It's a Chrysler 300.
No sir, thank you!
And unfortunately yeah I think you're right. Kinda annoying cause I actually searched just to double check and thought I was right but I guess mixed up with Elliot/Gretchen's car. My bad, but oh well. Thanks for pointing it out
@@That0therGeorge dude this video slapped all the same.
@@anotherstupidhipster3551 Haha yeah thanks man
While I thought the finale of Breaking Bad was kinda rushed but still Breaking Bad is my favourite show. Walter's character is so complex and Bryan Cranston's performance is god level. At one moment he killed Mike, which only hits harder when you watch Better Call Saul but still he saved Jesse. I will never be able to make my mind on him but I guess that's the point.
@@That0therGeorge The last episode was kinda forgiving for Walter. In the second last episode, we see him at his lowest point. I was absolutely terrified in that episode as he was going to die with his family in a hopeless state , I wished the events of the last episode stretched out. They happen so fast, it feels they kinda neglected the consequences. He travels to New Mexico easily while being one of the most wanted men in America and his family does not even has security. He kinda clears almost everything out. The last sequence with baby blue is still so beautiful, probably my favourite moment. It makes me reflect on the show everytime I listen to it.
Another great vidpe
honey wake up new that0thergeorge upload
man what is that outro song? went perfectly with the clips. Awesome video!
Ayyyy thanks dude I appreciate that. It's the instrumental for the song "Something Stupid" by Lola Marsh - most people know it from "Better Call Saul"
Good video man. I'm gonna keep that check list in mind whenever I'm making an anti-hero for dnd or something. Can you tell me what music was playing for the beginning of the Walter White section?
Thank you! The song is "El Paso"
If you love Nightcrawler (2014), then I highly recommend the Italian film Investigation of A Citizen Above Suspicion (1970).
Nightcrawler is amazing!
& I'll check out that film at some point, thank you for the recommendation!
This Is Such A Cool Video. Loved it. 👍👍👍
Why thank you it means a lot to me

@@That0therGeorge Anytime!
@@BooBop1987 Do you have a particular favourite Anti-Hero?
How did you not mention the man with no name trilogy in this whole video essay?
Absolutely loved the video. I disagree with you on your analysis of Walt. In my opinion, it's shown pretty clearly that it takes very, very little time for Walt to have absolutely no positive intentions behind his meth cooking. He deluded himself into believing it was for a good cause, sure, but realistically his admittance to enjoying what he did was aknowledging the fact that as soon as the going got tough, Walt loved what he did and thrived upon the power he had. I think he was never an antihero, just a kind hearted man very very quickly drawn into full villain territory by season 2.
So firstly; thank you very much.
And to respond to your feedback; I agree with you on the first part, that's I showed the montage part way through of about 5 or 6 clips or something altogether, I agree he goes from morally good to bad fairly quickly but my point was that it's done in stages rather than a sudden switch.
"but realistically his admittance to enjoying what he did was acknowledging the fact that as soon as the going got tough, Walt loved what he did and thrived upon the power he had" - Yeah I agree with this too, even the first episode hints at this when Hank says something like "get a bit of excitement in your life Walt".
I disagree with you on Walt not being an Anti-hero and being a villain by season 2, but it's probably more semantics so it's fine.
Thanks for the feedback/input though. I'm still happy with how the Breaking Bad portion turned out but in future I shall make sure to elaborate just a bit more on what I mean to get the full message across.
Bently continental GT? No no that was clearly a Crystler 300
Yep, someone else pointed that out when I released this video last year. My bad, but hopefully it doesn't take away much of anything
@@That0therGeorge no not at all great video loved it, imma car guy is all
@@nastynick7425 Thank you! Yeah it's just one of those details that bugs me now that I know it's wrong, but obviously it doesn't take away from the Walter White analysis or anything
Not a single mention of Tony Soprano, literally THE most important antihero in all of television, and perhaps the most complex and fleshed out antihero in ALL of fiction.
I mean come on, the episode “College” of The Sopranos literally birthed the TV antihero that is so common now. No Walter White or Jimmy McGill without it.
Really Great video, and I loved the Breaking Bad section, but if you’re gonna talk about such topic, you should at least inform yourself about such an important figure. I LOVE Walter White, but Tony is the one who holds that title, he doesn’t change nearly as much as Walt(that’s a main theme in the show) but he is explored at MUCH higher lengths than Walt, the show literally explores him psychologically like a real person to the point where you know his feelings about a hundred different topics and know many aspects about his life and relationships.
@@That0therGeorge No problem, I think you should check it out, since Tony Soprano was the first anti hero on television and the one that inspired all the ones we have today. It’s hard to explain how influential and revolutionary that show was at the the time, it also launched the golden era of television and prestige dramas that is still going today, it showed that TV could be more like movies and that you could touch complex psychological themes, it showed that audiences could watch and enjoy a show that is mature where the main characters are bad people. Breaking Bad especially took A LOT of inspiration even Bryan Cranston has said Walt wouldn’t exist without Tony.
The Sopranos is much harder to get into tho, it is more slow paced and with much less action like Better Call Saul, it is more episodic than most shows today and VERY character driven. Deaths in The Sopranos are often anticlimactic and not trying to be cool, there are no cold opens at the start of episodes and no cliffhangers at the end of each episode like in BB and BCS, and there is much more time put into the family aspect than BB. It’s a show that shines in conversations instead of thrills, not to say there aren’t some great thrills but that’s not what the show is about. I think most characters are more fleshed out in that show, specially Tony and his family, because of being less plot driven and giving you more time to know them.
@@That0therGeorge Damn I’m sorry for the huge comment, when I start talking about The Sopranos, I never know when to finish. BB and BCS used to be my favorite shows until I watched Sopranes a month ago, now they’re all sharing the #1 spot
@@That0therGeorge It is commonly agreed on by most people in the business and critics that James Gandolfini did for Television acting what Marlon Brando did for Film acting
@@Johnnysmithy24 I do remember hearing that quote from Bryan Cranston.
And will do! I've been meaning to check it for a while now. Just currently going through "Mr Robot"
@@That0therGeorge I’m also gonna start watching Mr Robot soon. Thanks for the nice interaction. I’ll subscribe and follow you on Letterbox
weird to see john wick and breaking bad in the same video.
lol I guess so! Both fantastic characters, similar in broad ways, but very different with all things considered
@@That0therGeorge I wonder, if the 2 characters fought, who would win. Obviously john if it was just hand to hand or a stand off, but considering if it was more of a mental game, maybe walt could manipulate or trap john and either blow him up or use him as a pawn for his own needs.
I only say john can easily be manipulated because, in the 3rd movie, Winston was easily able to manipulate john into fighting for him, only for Winston to betray john in the end.
It would definitely be an interesting fight if it ever happened lol
@@HazeAbysmal Lmao, I'm sure there's a detailed Reddit thread on this exact topic somewhere.
But I think you're correct there. Joh wins physically, but if Walt can manage to get inside his head, it's game over
@@That0therGeorge you're goddamn right
@@HazeAbysmal Lol.
Anyway, thanks for watching the video dude, I appreciate it a lot!
I think Sandor Clegane from Game of Thrones is my favourite
