just a heads up on no an's sky, 10 or so hours in and i don't know if it's a good game or not but i've already found a ship i'm desperate to fix, there is an alien language I'm desprately trying to uncover and i'm still iffy on which planet to set up shop in and build my first base. that is with only 2 systems explored. again i'm still not sure if this is a good game but if it's keeping me this busy then maybe just maybe it must be somewhat decent.

Speaking of Marty I legitimately LOL’d when skill up said Xbox doesn’t need halo. Meanwhile the delay was the best thing that could of happened to the game. With Jason Sathem taking over 343 development.

@@xXFallout2 but not anymore. With Xbox exclusivity potentially coming to Bethesda games, and each subsequent Halo game going slowly down in ratings, Xbox can be sold on the backs of other franchises.
Halo did amazing work in 1-3 and ODST, and those games DEFINITELY sold Xboxes and 360s but looking at Halo 5 as a more modern reference point, the halo franchise didn’t do the same for the Xbox One. Unless they really turn it around, people aren’t going to be buying the series x for Halo like they did before. Additionally, like Ralph said in his video, Microsoft doesn’t need you to buy Xboxes. They couldn’t care less. They care more about selling the games. And they’ve built such a library that Xbox’s survival isn’t dependent on Halo anymore. They don’t need a single standout game. They’ve already got dozens of standout STUDIOS.

I just found this channel recently, with the Cyberpunk controversy, and I'm so glad I have. The reviews I've watched, and even this video, have all been amazing and worth my time. The effort and time put into your reviews really shows, and makes them shine. For years now, I've been very personality focused on the game reviews I care about. Your reviews feel as objective as possible, even though reviews are just how one person feels about something, any bias you have isn't the core focus. I hope you continue to grow, and get the attention you deserve, here's to 2021.
I really appreciate that he clearly enjoyed Cyberpunk having played on PC (I’m in the same boat and love it) but refuses to give it any game of the year accolades simply because of how dishonest CDPR was with reviewers and console gamers. He tells it like he feels it without just being an edge lord entitled gamer-bro and has tremendous respect for the medium. It’s just refreshing with so much of the BS that surrounds gaming, from sleazy corporations to angry mobs 🙃

I'm sorry, Aaron, but skill up doesn't swing that way. He's straight. After his Cyberpunk 2077 review, he damaged his integrity.
The only strange review he's put up, as far as i recall, was the cyberpunk one. "Strange" as in completely out of his character. This dude disregarded other games for way less rofl. Ignoring all the hype surrounding cyberpunk (if possible), it is very underwhelming, to say the least. Ignore the shit ton of bugs, there is still not much to do. And the environment... pedestrians patroling the same building over and over, the police wanted system is a joke, enemy AI reminds me of ths SW battlefront 2 SP campaign (yes, i was so bored at one time that i actually tried it). For fuck's sake, GTA vice city had better traffic AI. You have a few main quests that are so linear and/or scripted that it makes you wonder what does "open world" really mean... then I remember these guys made W2 and W3, and i'm having difficulties wrapping my head around the idea. In conclusion: watching skillup's review of cyberpunk was jarring af. Other than that, more power to the man, one of the most consistent reviewers out there.

Funny how so many videos of his get so much backlash, but then people come around to either agree or just accept his opinion. Just shows how much honesty is needed in a time where clickbait and misinformation is so rampant. I just dont know if most reviewers would still have this viewership after conisistently getting a lot of dislikes. Good job Ralph.
Many reviews do, not just in games in movies too... People disagree with opinions it's not that difficult to understand... The core audience doesn't leave tho that's the thing..., Videogamedunky, Chris stuckmann are the ones I watch that I have noticed this trend on constantly especially when the opinion goes against the masses
@@shizukousapostle1stapostle710 those you mentioned are the exceptional exception unfortunately. If you are just a reviewer, not a comedian like dunkey, making a couple 'bad' reviews can completely slash your viewership. Ralph is doing the opposite and growing. Thats admirable.
I have a very high respect for skillup, and yes! He's always got backstab by his viewers every month or so for his reviews , but I just think that he was a little too soft against cyberpunk(e.g take valhalla)
3 years on and I haven't changed my mind on any of the disagreements. I'm not gonna give him dislikes for this or stop watching his reviews. He does a good job. I just disagree with him on some of his reviews.
Cyberpunk was shit at launch, Automata was average, TLOU 2 was really good. I will stand by these opinions.

Though I have to ask if you really did a crafting run because consensus seems to be that the crafting is over powered, not useless as you seemed to think.
@@lw8882 I did my first playthrough with crafting and found that I never had the materials I needed to make anything, despite disassembling every item I didn't use, this lead me to being totally cash strapped too, maybe I was doing something wrong but they were totally wasted attribute points for my at the point of finishing the game. The quickhack crafting is really good though and components are far easier to come by, but that's in a different tree and can be done separately. I'm currently on my second playthrough where I'm just punching things to death with a gorilla arms build. In my experience going heavily into anything on the normal difficulty, I find that you feel incredibly overpowered no matter what. The quickhacks in particular honestly feel like cheating sometimes.

Oh wow what a surprise!, the franchise that PC players have been begging for, for over a decade did well?!! NOO!! NO WAY We don't believe it, we even sued the PS3 emulator because people were playing Persona on it on PC, but we didn't even know they wanted it on Steam! heck we still don't believe it, that's why we're not porting Persona 5 Royal to PC, because we don't think PC players want it, we're not convinced yet.

@@ab2dii467 He used to do long intros with analogies that were epic. He was add cool facts and a history on some shit I didnt even know...like the Pepsi come up or some old militarty vessel. The most famous was the ship one, which he makes reference to in this video. I actually miss those but I understand he needs a broader appeal. He's a masterful writer and even if the long intros are gone, his writing hasnt lost its potency.
I like SkillUp reviews the most because his gaming taste is very similar to mine AND he also tries to be as objective as possible. So his reviews have every quality I could ever need.

You know 2020 was a long year when it feels like Warcraft 3 Reforged felt like 2 years ago. Also how crazy fast it was forgotten even by social media.

I just want to say that I really appreciate the old, longer, reviews that you did that dove into topics and surrounding info. Highly informative, well written, genuinely intriguing and overall a nice watch. Wish every few vids had that spice in there
at least we finally understand why the cyberpunk devs had to pull in almost an entire year of crunch now. Game was basically rushed together in 2 or so years as they probably had to scrap major portions of the last version of the game

My fave thing about your videos is that I always sense you wanna go full rage, but manage to reign it back. You appreciate that no matter how 'bad' a game may be, it took a LOT of very talented people, YEARS of their lives to create. And they had zero control in the finished product. Follow the money... Honestly your old style reviews were great, they are what made me think you put more work into your reviews than many others. The research and comparisons between the two topics was great and I'd love to see a return to that. We got to learn something for those that listened to all of it and see a bit of history.

And to think there were Playstation fanboys swearing by that game. I remember getting dogpiled on by them for saying the game looked like uninspired garbage. And got the typical 'You're just an Xbox fanboy. This game is PS5 Exclusive (Its not) so therefore its gonna be a masterpiece' argument

@@mclovinjr9086 Okay. Xbox is my preferred platform, but I do own a PS4, and I loved Bloodborne, Spider man, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima. I also have Persona 5 but I haven't had the chance to play it yet
But I really cannot stand the fanatical Playstation fanbase, they are truly the most irritating and vile people in the industry. They genuinely seem to think that games being exclusive to their platform makes them better, and have denounced entire franchises for going to PC or Xbox, like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and the Yakuza games.
I know all 4 platforms have their fanboys, its just that Playstations are the worst

A real sci-fi/robot nerd heaven, hats off to Vanillaware who pulled it off so amazingly.
Honestly just the mention of it being on par with NieR: Automata instantly sold me on this game. I'll look into it and most likely play it as soon as possible.

Just wanted to echo some of the other comments here, I LOVED your old style. In fact I had been thinking about it with increasing frequency over the last few months as you continued to release new reviews that were not in that style. I'm a big fan of long form videos and your talent and elegance in writing is some of the best in the business. I understand the need for flexibility and don't think those old-style reviews suite every game that you talk about but as a long-time fan of yours, I would encourage you giving those a shot on games where it makes sense.
Please just hit me with the, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my review of..." more in the future lol.

Marauder in Doom Eternal may have been somewhat difficult to delay with but after a while you find out that you can cheese him. But hey, props to you for not overreacting, antagonizing an entire fan base like a certain someone did and got shit for it, which he had it coming.
I have pretty much religiously followed Gaming industry news all year, and this was the most informative thing filling in all of the gaps that I somehow didn’t hear about. You guys are fantastic and I really enjoy your content for the insight into the industry and also the games. Thanks so much for your hard work and hope you have a great year.
