Want the historical background for EU5's 1337 start? Here it is czcams.com/video/nn-R539RqxU/video.html
Hi
Probably one of the best dates for me, my favorite king ruled Poland then
Crusader Imperator of Victorian Universalis going to have pretty good mechanics it seems like
We need for color on political map not to be so pale and to be more vibrant like in not so much CKIII but EU IV
Question isn't Belgrade supposed to be Serbian in 1337
Unless you give me back my wallet, I cannot buy EuV, so please give me back my wallet funny romanian man
Petition to peer pressure ludi into buying eu5 for him
Saw Ludi stealing your wallet! If Ludi doesn't want to be exposed he should buy you EU5!
he s not black so idk where u get that ass joke from
Buys him EU5 with his Wallet. Omg
Why not steal your wallet back?
I mean the easiest people to steal for me as a serbian are roumanians
I can already see the "All Roads Lead to Rome" achievement
Yeah and it's gonna be some shit like having a large road connected to the Rome location on every single location in the European continent
Being able to manipulate terrain should also be a feature. Deforesting your land with a % chance it turns into farmlands/grasslands or having desert tiles be irrigated with a great cost could also be interesting. People emigrated to have land and be able to farm it, historically. It was always weird to me that EU never had that mechanic.
Because it can be exploited very easily.
1 big issue eu4 has is blobbing. Once your numbers are bigger you alsp grow more and cannot be stopped. I hope eu5 will have some things to block that.
We already know that terrain will work with % value forestation, elevation and so on, so deforesting your land to make it a farmland is pretty much a announced feature as far as we know. It won't be a % chance to change it, your forestation % will just decline over time. We have no news for irrigation
@@noriantiri9310 yeah it would be good to have a tradeoff of being able to increase more funds, but having a decrease in manpower due to farms taking up much land
Imagine being able to restore the irrigation Dams on Amu Darya and Syr Darya, which made Central Asia into Farmlands before Mongol invasions made them abandoned. East Coast of America being all Forests but colonial administration being able to turn them into Farmlands like irl, or the same with Brazil
What about the opposite? By choice or by e.g. devastation provinces could be so ravaged and their population decreased that fertile farmlands turn into wild pastures and if left to long to its own devices maybe go back to forests or marshes
Vicky economics, CK characters and roleplay, Imperator Roads detailed modeled society!
This is going to be one of the all time great if they manage to pull it out
It's also going to be fucking impossible to learn to play. EU4 is already quite difficult to learn. EU5 is going to be off the charts.
11:42 Paradox wants a word with Ludi after questioning the validity of their map
Bishopric and City I...believe.
The amount of times I checked your channel yesterday waiting for this video😅
Hope you enjoy it!
23:35 The way I understand it is kinda like this: You have the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth but within it you have distinc entities like the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Duchy of Prussia, etc. or in case of the United Kingdom you have England, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, etc. Similar to how in the HPM mod for Victoria 2 you had substates and such.
I may be totally wrong but that kind of system would be really cool and would allow for much better representation of the administrative and political makeup of different states.
The fact that PI listen to feedback and is hellbent in developing their games for as long as possible lends me to believe that they see games as a service instead of as a product. This is the way forward for the industry.
i fully agree
I mean it's a no brainer, they'll maximize profits if they put what we want in it.
Until you need to pay a subscription to play the game. I guess we already do though
*Vic3 has entered the chat*

If they are still adding flavor to Eastern Europe, I'm assuming they're still fairly early in the development process as far as flavor, but they have created all the core mechanics. I'm expecting the release date to be announced at paradoxcon and I think it would be pretty funny if they released it on April 1st to match the start date in game
I agree that it would be great if they released it on April 1st
and when everyone will shit review this game they can say it was a joke
@@michaelhaderach277bro that's actually a good concern
I feel like that most people don’t talk about colonialism, which to be fair I understand as it is not that interesting in eu4. But thats exactly may biggest hope for eu5, to make colonising and interacting with your colonies more engaging!
Further points of note:
-Piracy! More options and shenanigans.
- Better representation of Vassals and complex political structures
- Better and more peace-deal options. For example prolonged payments that work like transferring trade power.
- More AI vs. AI coalitions
- The concept of little feuds for little gains. War‘s shouldn’t be total wars from the start
- Better representation in game mechanics of this fascinating period of warfare! The switch to pike and shot tactics and so on.
- Not technology alone but also ones resources and other factors forcing one into a limited choice of Unit types and not everyone having the same on the same tech and or culture
I cant wait for this game. I bagged around 3500 hours in EU4. However i Hope they will put more forests in denmark on the map, as the deforestation of the country is a much more recent event.
Just reminder for when they announce:
DO. NOT. PRE-ORDER.
why not?
@@dairop3220so they really try to make this the best game they ever made. when they have your money, they care less
I will preorder but only like the day before the release so I can get the bonus (that will 100% be present), but yeah I won't give em my money more than a few days before the game is out
@@dairop3220 There has not been a single paradox game good on launch ever, wait a good year until they patch the broken mess they usually churn out at launch
@@christianbroadbent7489 What about Hoi4? Oh wait. Nvm. Forgot about the game state till Waking the Tiger.
that market system with control can go into an "economic sphere of influence" ... a soft power type thing. Freakin awesome. Wonder if a very strong economic nation could have a huge influence over a smaller nation to which it affects it politically and could force it into a form of a union? Pretty cool
25:51 I knew Paint was going to be this prestigious program
I wish Iberia is shown as it was historically, which is to say a collection of personal unions (if we don't include vassals). There shouldn't be only five nations; just because the King ruled over Aragón, Valencia and Cataloña doesn't mean they were the same nation. Same for Castilla and León. Ideally, it would be represented extremely faithfully to history, so similarly to France or the HRE, but just having the Kingdoms as PUs - and possibly some vassals - would be a huge improvement over EUIV
Omg, 24/7 Hanseatic League Playthrough for me confirmed❤😮😄
same ^^
We still use levies today, it's called conscription now
Regarding the Hanseatic League, I think we might be getting some kind of federation/trade league system where several smaller nations can band together under a new name with each member nation still being fairly independent. So basically a mix between teade leagues, native federations and the HRE from eu4.
Maaaan, Stellaris 2 looks gorgeous!
I wonder how levee en masse will be represented. I hope mercs + levies will be the go to option at the start later replaced by standing armies and then get buffed during the napoleonic era.
20:45 I can already see the kind of atrocities people will be committing with that mechanic 🤣
I LOVE and really appreciate that you explain the history behind these different events that would be taking place in EU5, it only gets me more excited for the game, and keeps me locked into your video! Totally itches that History Buff scratch.
thanks dude. cool video :) i'm so hype.
Great video as always!!
I always wait for your take on the new patchnotes. You speak eloquently and with a level of enthusiams that is contagious. Keep it up Ludi!
Great video as always!!!😊
I got excited by the thumbnail, I thought this was part two of your EU4 Sweden run, looking forward to that one.
- How about a War system implementing "Ransom" as in the Middle Ages & early Renaissance, Knights & lords capture and ransom were one of the KEY driving force of factions economy and war goals enthusiasm. Jean 2 the French King was Ransomed for 4 Millions ecus in total to England !, thats like 10 times more than what England economy was making per year on wool trade !!
the "Ransom culture" and how it defined Middle Age mindset of the people in charge at that time (kings & lords) is very very (very) underestimated
CK3 has that, after winning sieges or battles there's a chance you capture nobles, generals, heirs and even the king himself resulting in a 100% victory, so yeah, it would be cool to have It in EU5 too
I was waiting so much for this video! Really hyped for this game
Love the historical facts you provide.
I think a cool idea would be if a large enough group of locations or provinces reach either low or absolute 0 control that they can basically launch a mini Independence war
I would like to point out that even modern armies today have "reserves" which effectively act like a levy. The person isn't constantly engaged in regular military training, and mostly acts as a normal citizen. Yet there ready to be quickly called up in desperate times. Modern militarys also implement drafts, which is somewhat like calling up a levy. The only difference being the ability to quickly train and arm them.
So maybe even into the late game, whilst most nations will have large standing armies, they may still have levies available too, especially from areas of land with low control where we saw the levy modifier going up as manpower went down.
I'm always bad with dates, but if I rememebre my history classes correctly, due to the Reconquista the Iberian nations had a huge standing army. Being some of the first to switch from the more levy based armies to profesional ones in Europe. Something that would help Spain 150 years later to have a powerful military presence in Europe.
All I want is sliders for the economy, no preset buttons like vik3
Ludi sheds tears of joy for possible Voltaire's HRE version!
What I'd like to see is the ability to upgrade roads and ports. Dirt roads -> Paved roads -> Highways. Each giving more proximity, control and faster travel speeds. Also to have the map change accordingly would be nice.
GAHD i hope they dont just make it look the same as ck3 or vicki3 !!! I rly hope they make the ui and such look unique and inspired from the past eu games...
its cheaper to make everything look the same, So sadly i think this will be the future
@@aidenrogers1468 They said the UI was placeholder so we don't know for now
buildings generally provide % bonuses to a province in most paradox games, but I think it would be really cool to get half way to to vicky with them. By having a special category of processed goods that need a raw trade good and a building to upgrade that into a processed good that unlocks troops or gives national bonuses in a similar way to imperator: rome. It would be a cool way to time gate gunpowder, naval vessels, porcelain, maybe even watchmakers to improve army speed or organization. You even get distilleries showing up properly for the first time in the 13th century and spinning wheels don't show up in europe until the 15th century. Using the imperator trade good mechanics would keep it simple enough I don't think it would get overwhelming
I really want to see a more complex HRE System. Deeper Interactions as Kaiser and Kurfürst would be really nice, maybe as Princes too.
A few questions to pass along/think about:
1. Most important - specs? I know they aren't final but can we get an idea if potato will be able to run it?
2. Will we be having dynamic/custom religions/cultures/countries like CK3? It would be cool to see players make all sorts of fantasy nations.
2.b. Portugal will form Spain or something else? ;)
3. Will there be more diplomacy options when interacting with nations like Daimyos/Japan or Chinese? In EU4 you could (as Portugal for example) get Macau/Nagaski but otherwise not much else to do; you would just war. Daimyos were basically non-existent outside of something like a rebel revolt/release when they get the gov type that let's you do basic interactions (you couldn't even agitate for liberty or get involved in Gekokujo/Sengoku despite the introduction of firearms and trade in general reshaping Japanese warfare and society).
4. New CBs and Peace treaties? e.g. I wish EU4 had a CB when you get raided (e.g. North African nations against Mediterranean) and Peace options like "stop raiding" (instead of conquering the entire coast or worse - dumping large amounts of navies on pointless missions) or even transfer goods. Will peace treaties be similar to EU4 or HOI4?
4.b. Will the AI stop signing peace treaties at terrible times, causing your armies to get exiled when they are 1 province away from the enemy?
5. Will there be alternatives similar to the HRE like Factions from HOI4? Very excited if yes, imagine the possibilites, especially if you could "diplo-unite" countries like when you form the HRE (country).
6. You said cities can be depopulated but will there be any "hard" culture conversion/population moving/genociding options? It may be a touchy topic but I want to know what level of control we will have over our countries (since so far it seems very population driven like Vic3 which I found to be one of the more "idle" PDX games). I admit I've made custom "population slaying" scripts in Vic3 and my 12+ years non-gaming CRAPTOP can run the game amazingly when half the population in the world is gone (and there are less pops to manage).
7. Is there "hard" religious conversion like EU4? If so I would suggest the Religious Zeal or equivalent modifier to be a decaying one (ie going from -100% to 0% over time) so you don't have to wait 30 YEARS to convert and can do it earlier if you have better missionary strength. In fact this should be changed in EU4, it's easily one of the worst features and I wish the "attack natives" button would work ;)
8. What will colonisation be like? Colonial regions? Colonial nations? Can you choose not to form them? Victoria style? Can we form multiple per region e.g. 13 Colonies or early Colonial Brazil. FEITORIA?
8.b. Wastelands like Amazon/Central Africa? Will colonisers be able to cut through Kongo into Kilwa, dominating Africa early or will we see things like the Malaria modifier from Vic3/EU4 mods, being limited to the coast, "uncolonisable until /date", hard to colonise?
9. Any new map modes? "Opinion Of" is sorely needed (and I guess EU4 could have used a "Centralization" one but let's not talk about that mechanic).
10. How is the game looking for modders so far?
Not going to ask about dynamic trade since it seems like we will be having a "market system".
The Kingdom of Hungary is a complicated thing.
1. During this period, more than 80% of the total population was of Hungarian ethnicity, but this only changed because from 1526 the Turks destroyed much of the territory inhabited by Hungarians. So at the start of the game, there should have been a much lower proportion of people of other cultures and religions (almost all Hungarians were Roman Catholic at the time).
2. Hungary had a brilliant ruler at the time, Charles Robert, who by this time had already fought off all the barons who opposed him and thus absolutely ruled the country. He opened new gold mines, making Hungary the largest gold producer in Europe. He introduced new laws and mediated in the conflict between the Czech and Polish kings at the Congress of Visegrád in 1335. He also founded the Order of St George. He also minted the first Hungarian gold coins. Heir to the throne, Louis the Great became a great general.
3. Hungary was the most powerful country in the region, with increasingly advanced towns and cities and an army that included both Western knights and Eastern mounted archers. There were also German settlers in the eastern part of Transylvania, who built wonderful and prosperous cities, and the Szeklers, who were free men, none of them noble or peasant, in return for protecting the eastern borders and being available in times of war. It is also worth mentioning that Charles Robert was part of the house of Anjou which ment close ties to other countries.
With EU5 ending around 1780, does that mean there's a chance for March of the Eagles 2?
I’d like armies to be able to block supply trains in the back lines to cause attrition on enemies.
Also a rock paper scissor system in multiplayer lol
I'm very interested to see how they handle Africa in EU5, one problem I've always had with EU4 is the colonization system. How can Spain or Portugal colonize >75% of Africa, when historically those lands were effectively death for Europeans? Will diseases like Malaria or Yellow Fever impact pops? What about the slave trade? What do you guys think?
If they simulate population as much as it sounds I think population will literally be sent to colonize. Any semi-realistic colonizing mechanic would involve having to throw a decent amount of bodies to keep colonies growing. Most colonies took a lot to become really profitable. For some places in Africa the attrition there probably will be too costly to be worthwhile.
@@Aarlaeoss that would make sense. It would also make the whole minority expulsion mechanic from EU4 ALOT more viable. By that logic there will be a huge scramble for the low attrition provinces like Cape Town. Makes MP sound interesting, doesn't it?
@@Aarlaeoss In the colonies that would become the United States, the attrition in the marshy areas were absolutely terrible, due to famine as well as disease spread like cholera and malaria
The Europeans were able to settle South Africa because it was very sparsely populated and hospitable climate
@@digiorno1142 Yeah, uniquely, it was a place opposite of the equator in Africa that was climactically quite similar to the climes that would support crops back on the European continent
I love that they added features from Imperator Rome because along with Stellaris these are the most interesting paradox games that you can play peacefully, not just map painting
They said the warfare will be units moving on a map like ck3 and eu4 which is great but I do think there is a major way to improve the system rather simply.
The current system doesn't allow for the player to have much control of maneuvering outside of deciding when and where to engage the enemy. The rest falls into stat modifiers, generals, and tech
In order to better simulate many great battles in history, it would be nice to add in the potential for flanking and enveloping maneuvers. Currently a significant portion of the game is sending death stacks into eachother. But what if i send a stack of 15k north one location into battle against a stack of 30k, and then send another stack of 5-10k into battle from behind the enemies line?
Instead of having them just join your main army it would be really cool to see it represented as an envelopment, maybe the enemy stack splits in half facing each of ur stacks and you get a bonus to rolls for flanking or enveloping the enemy.
Something to give the player a little bit more control of battlefield maneuvering would be nice because as it stands it feels more like I just have to min-max stat modifiers and not attack in the mountains which is fine but its not as in depth of a battle simulation.
This may be a lot to ask I'm not a programmer or game ai designer but I think it would really set this game over any strategy game thats come before.
Please, Ludi, make sure we get big rivers that you cannot cross, to make for a easier time when you play as a minor nation to hold your own against a big aggressor(*cough* walachia-ottomans), espacially for the multiplayer that i am sure will be insane, and thank you so much that you give us an opportunity to be heard directly by the guys at paradox, love you man❤💪🤙
Roman Empire did not stop calling itself Romans In 1453. The early Ottoman coins all still say Roman Empire and people called themselves Rumi until late 17th century.
I’m hoping to hear about East Asia soon in these. The start date is shortly before both the Ming Dynasty and Ashikaga Shogunate officially were established.
It would be nice to see some mechanics from victoria 1 like trade with differents goods and stock them or use for certain purpose like change certain social class population in other (workers turn in to artisans for instance)
very excited for this game!
Army, or military, castle were the ways to authorise control / power originally. Later with polise force, post system, byrocrasy, church, etc… interesting to see what those other points of control will be.
That control thing is similar to a mechanic from Civlization I, if I remember correctly. Your cities that are further from capital city have a greater corruption, and thus you need to build Courthouses.
I would especially love one additional mechanic over how peace treaties were formed in EU4:
I think after a certain amount of time after being called to war as an ally countries should be able to "vote" if they want to continue with the war or if they want peace. Depending on the power of a country and/or its actual contributions in the fighting so far it has mor influence in the vote. This way if the war leader doesn't listen and continues to stay in the war the other nations can collectively leave the war with less negative diplomatic effects (diplo rep and relations to each other; relation to the war leader would sour of course). Nations could still leave a war on their own whenever they want but then they would face all of the percussions (maybe also a casus belli against them if the leave immediately?).
It would also be a way for the war leader to see how far they can go and then listen to their allies.
Because in EU4 there is no real way of communicating between your allies if you want to stay in, how long you want to continue, what goals you want to reach etc. while you can always communicate with the enemy via peace negotiations. That's a bit weird and sometimes quite frustrating, when either allies leave all of the sudden or you are called in a war, do all the fighting but then the war leader doesn't peace out and you have to decide to seperate peace and see all your fighting undone or stay in and have the continued negative effects (high war exhaustion, new enemy allies that turn the tide etc.)
You described kinda the "war support" and "peace acceptance" mechanics of the war system in Vic3. Let's just say it is a really good idea, but it can be clunky at time. But I believe Tinto would be more competent than the Vic3 and will implement an actually great system based on this idea.
I’d also like to see road systems between provinces that can help us set trade routes and also for supply trains for armies
Control in EU5 seems to work very similar to how autonomy and communication in Meiu and Taxes before 3.0 (I dont know how 3.0 works so im just saying before). Where you will have some system where control radiate out of your capital, probably have that roads and ports help "transport" the control further, as we can see that costal provinces have higher control even if they are further away. It does feel like Johan has taken a look at Meiu and Taxes and imported quite a few ideas from it in these Tinto talks honestly, such as the autonomous estates , which I love as Meiu and Taxes honestly for me made EU4 much more fun.
Given that several of the modders that worked on meiou now work at tinto, working on this game, I'd say this is of no coincidence. But also hell yeah, as a former contributor of meiou, I love to see all these borrowed ideas. ❤
I had no idea, that's awesome and that explains why I keep seeing so many ideas. I'm glad those Devs get recognised as they did amazing work with Meiu and Taxes, and can't wait for eu5 I'm actually really hyped
I'm imagining Johan delighted watching this video at the delight of Ludi about EU5 (Project Caesar)
An idea would maybe that they should be sub-orders, for example first sub-orders the High-Nobility that represented dukes and marquis, etc that had different demands. Secondly, the Nobles of the Robe who were mostly cities nobility and then lastly the landed-nobility where the only subsistence came from the land they directly own. For burgers, there could be the same with the high-burgers are very rich wants more powers in the government and then burgers of little cities they demand only to govern their cities by themselves with cities privileged, etc
I would actually like a defense mechanic for units. Just like autonomos rebel supression. But once enemy army enters a lrovince the defense assign unit is going to hunt them down if they are strong enough. Or something of the sorts.
as you own locations and can give locations to a noblemen or the church youre direct land can be an extra control center
16:50 While the other Paradox series have often focused on specific parts of the gameplay (HoI, MotE: warfare; V: economy, pops; CK: diplomacy; Imperator: Map painting, pops and simulation eventually) I've always seen the EU series as the "wide" Grand Strategy game that connects all these different parts or focuses into one. It's the Grandest of the Grand. I see Imperator in that way also as an important stepping stone on the way to EU5.
It would actually be really interesting if building forts and castles would grand you control over certain area... it would kinda make sence when you think about it considering the political system at least in the begining.
So to summarize.. it would be kinda interesting if in the early game you could increase control by building forts and later on increasing it by building cities.. where city would be able to assert much more control.
Hi Paradox!
I'm extremely hyped about this new project, and i'm sure we all are here. I just have a suggestion/request about a feature I wished was in CKIII or EUIV so much! :
Could you add terrain changes?
For exemple, deforesting a place to make it a plain, and then making this plan into farmland! Drying marshes! I often talked about those with fellow paradox player and they often answered me that it wasn't accurate due to the time period, since in many people's head deforestation and large scale terraforming is a recent thing.
But it's wrong!
Some exemples:
In the netherlands, land started being reclaimed from the sea as far as the XIVth century!
In south-eastern France, the marshlands around Bordeaux were drained starting from the XVth century!
The english Fens were drained in the XVII century.
Europe knew large scale deforestation during the middle ages
That's it, I hope y'all found my proposition constructive!
There's also the Aztecs literally constructing Tenochtitlan using wooden rafts that had soil piled up on top, and then sunk in place to create a Venice-like array of canal-islands
23:00 Ludi don't forget, you need to do the 100 push ups push ups also at Tinto HQ. :P
I just had an idea from the last tinto talk about naval warfare. What if instead of destroying buildings with the navy maybe they can slowly occupy locations that aren’t protected by forts/naval defenses while consuming sailors in the process. You could maybe keep the building destruction for pirate raids (with a cash boost for the type of building destroyed)
I would love to see some enhanced peace deals, like handing over a part of the other nation's fleet, especially if navy is really getting more important compared to eu4. during that time (or in general) ships were really expensive and having to gear down as followup to a war has happened historically
I love Paradox game reform for better player opinion modifiers ❤😂
Ludi, can you please read dev diary less and more share your opinion on what you have read?
I value your opinion and experience with PDX and EU4 and its much more interesting to hear it then listen you reading dev diary.
Cudos to you and best of luck.
thanks for the feedback, will do that more, glad to hear your opinion bro!
Agreed. The history lessons ludi gives remind me I still don't know enough about history :)
@@LudietHistoria THIS!!! Plus, with the Tinto Talks + your opinion = more opportunity for discussion and feedback for PI
I‘m really hoping the game will also be visually pretty, like i‘m totally in love with the grafics of vici 3. Every building you build is actually shown on the map, the trains the combats just awesome. Combine that with a super detailed combat system where you can actually outplay other players with skill and this game will be just perfect.
A suggestion for Paradox: Family tree and some additional overview of your bloodline from start to finish in a campaign. Both in your own country and how your diplomatic influence spreads through your strategically placed royal marriages ;-)
It would be amazing if there would be a custom nation desinger in EU5
One of my favorite features in Eu4 was the Random New World. Even though it was very buggy and limited due to the engine, I always had a blast seeing the landmasses you could find such as temperate Antarctica or the giant wall of land. Unfortunately Johan stated on the forum that RNW will not be something they plan to do again. I hope that maybe this is skmething they change their mind about, or at least wait for a future DLC. Creating an alternate Earth always felt more fun than it did in a civ game!
I wish they add Complex Trade, for Example adding Import and Export. Maybe as a small OPM, devving your nation to the max to become all Cities but importing all your food from abroad
Im intrested to see if they add in autonomy which would act like have integrated half vassel and increase control ect
The thing with Denmark would be amazing because in the ecening of the modern era the were a lot of territories in this situation where a Crown of kingdons culdn't control all the territory. Be able to be the ruler of those territories that are further the kings law and create your own Modern State sounds pretty nice to me (like it happens with Burgundy or Provence in EUIV)
I'm so excited about the prospect of more building tall / inter-war development manics like building roads and cities. Literally all that was missing from EU4 from my perspective.
I just hope we got some more engaging stuff to do beyond wage wars. In the beginning it's still kinda fun but when you're a super power, you basically just kill whoever and then get annoyed with AE. Wish there were more diplomatic options
I really hope navies will be more important than they are in eu4, in a lot of cases you can just ignore navy unless you need to transport troops.
Something I'd like to see in the game is the ability to delegate certain parts of the gameplay to AI. Like letting the AI take care of your trade or handle your armies during wars, etc, and which could be toggled on and off at anytime.
Naturally, this would be considerably less efficient than handling things yourself, but would be a great way to ease new players into the game, specially as it seems it will be the most complex paradox game yet. It will also allow players to ignore a part of the game they actively hate AND can make the late game more bearable when the amount of micromanaging can really take the fun out of the game.
There are rivers, that are several kilometers wide and can easily fit big navies. They should be (partially) navigable.
I really like the idea that you can "transform" your land. In EU4, I always wished I could transform woodland into farmland and vice versa. Obviously in EU4 this doesn't make much sense because its a different system and and farmland is the best so everyone would just spam farmlands. But here in EU5 it could make sense. Historically, germany de-forested (is that how you say it?) 2/3 of its land and made it into "farmland". Germany/HRE used to be 90% forest but after de-forestication it turned into a power house. Obviously it would make sense if you can't transform mountains or deserts and stuff. But being able to transform woodland and forests should be a thing. and you don't want to turn your entire country into farmland either, you want woodland cause of wood production and stuff. Plus these pops don't eat as much food.
I bet there are several control buildings, the most powerful ones probably being fortresses and the like.
indeed, but these will probably comes with better tech or something
El juego por el que tengo mas hype en mi vida, puede llegar a ser el juego de Paradox definitivo
The control system seems amazing to me.
Clearly this is skylines 3.
Yeah, he gave it away when he said no building slots
I wonder if the forms of control will be similar to how they did it in imperator. They might have governors and or people loyal to the crown and the control would probably relate back to that. I'm wondering if they're going to bring people more into this game as individual similar to what we see in Victoria 3 and Imperator
Ludi is the only EU player I follow. Was hoping you would have a video about this update.
In 1329, Denmark was divided between several magnates. It created discontent that Denmark fell into foreign hands, and Count Johann the Mild of Holsten-Plön caused Christoffer to return home, and he was recognized as king in Scania and Zealand. A conflict now broke out between Denmark's two biggest creditors: Count Gerhard (with Funen as a fief) and Johann III (with the areas east of the Great Belt as a fief). Christoffer took Johann's side, but in 1331 Gerhard was victorious in a battle on Kropp Hede a little north of Dannevirke. Christoffer's son, Erik, died in Kiel in 1331 after a crash with his horse during the flight, and Christoffer's second son, Otto, was taken prisoner in 1334 after a lost battle at Tap Hede near Viborg. The whole of Denmark was now in the hands of the magnates. To get Denmark back, 200,000 silver marks had to be paid. And that for the earth itself; the total debt was far greater. In Sakskøbing, the deposed king came across a Holsteiner and a Dane, who tried to smoke him out of the house where he had sought refuge. As the only way out, Christoffer fled up the chimney. When his son Valdemar later became king, he forced the perpetrators to pay a larger compensation.
I'm going to keep bringing it up. Can there be a feature like an imperator Rome where you can give control of an army to the AI. Micro'ing armies in late eu4 is pretty rough
I actually have a lot more hope for this game on release, mostly because a lot of the mechanics are coming from other games where the mechanics were already smoothed out
Control is basically autonomy from eu4 taxation capacity an mapi from vic 3
I'm actually quite positive (or enthusiastic rather) about EU5 potentially copy pasting CK3's GUI engine/etc.
In my opinion, this could potentially be of great help for modders, since not only is CK3's GUI system already extremely powerful and flexible in terms of what you can do regarding its modding, but also it might mean that a lot of references in code and other practices might be so similar that modders won't have to spend a whole day or more just looking at walls of text to learn what they can do, since they'll already have that experience from modding in CK3.
The end date in the 1780s definitely teases a march of the eagles game in the future. It leaves a gap between EU5 and Vic3 that contains roughly the American, French, and Latin american revolutions, and then the Napoleonic wars.
It's probably going to be 1789
After watching this entire video, i havnt been this pumped for EU5 since...... EVER! SO EXCITED!
ur eu5 videos are the best ngl
With the roads, settlements, towns and cities it sounds a bit like Catan, but on massive steroids! Can't wait to explore the complexity of yet another paradox game. thank you Ludi for the continuous updates!
I guess buildings like a Court or other kinds of Govermental buildings are some sort of Building that will generate some Controll.
I hope there is some kind of flavour for the Kalmar Union at some point in the game, since it had such a big impact on the nordics
Giant HRE Dev clash hype!!!
