I thought his chances of winning championship ever again were gone, but now considering, that he will join Red Bull. With his skill he will have very much chance to win the championship and challenge Verstappen to make intresting races for the fans. His getting multiple podiums with Aston Martin, while he drives in fifth best team, so I very much think he can stay up in pace with Verstappen at Red Bull. It would be the wrong move for Alonso to go to Mercedes, instead of Red Bull, because Mercedes currently cant produce car, that can compete with Red Bull, when they have somehow failed with their engineers, when Mercedes car is the fourth best in the grid currently, so Alonso cant win championship with Mercedes, but with Red Bull he for sure can.

I think he might retire because he has 3 options now:
    1 - Aston Martin
Aston Martin needs to make a good jump in the next few months for Alonso to consider. They need to show him they have a serious team for 2026. Yes, 2026 cars are not guaranteed to good or bad at all but established serious teams rarely make mistakes. Red Bull was never below P3 at any point since 2009, Ferrari was never below P4 at any point in the last decade except 2020 etc.
    2 - Mercedes
Mercedes right now is in shambles. But if they can convince him that they can give him a competitive car (engine, wink wink) for 2026, he might consider. Mercedes won't challenge for 2025 for sure though. Aside challenging, they probably will be P5. So, they really need to be convincing.
    3 - Red Bull

He's either going to Red Bull or to Mercedes. For those teams he can be really valuable. For Mercedes he can be a short term solution until they deem Antonelli ready. For Red Bull he can push Verstappen a bit more and pick up the occasional win if and when Verstappen has an off day/penalty or isn't able to finish the race. I also think that Alonso might enjoy the challenge of driving against Verstappen in the same car.
If he goes to Mercedes he could also make a gamble on them being good after the 2026 regulation changes, turning them into at least a race winning team again. Alonso being able to stay until then would abviously depend on how Antonelli performs in F2 and what Toto decides is best for him.
I don't see him retire just yet. More probable to retire at the end of the 2025 season. I also don't see him staying at Aston Martin unless they can really make him believe they can build a race winning car for next season. If Red Bull offers him a seat, he probably will (and definitely should) take it.

Alonso vs Max in an RB car would be exciting as hell. I don't see it happening - Alonso is still ferociously hungry for a WC. He would never be happy being seen as a comfortable 2nd. Mercedes is in decline. Even as an LH/GR/Merc fan, I can see that. And I'm sure Alonso can as well. Given Alonso's relationship with Lawrence Stroll, his desire to be the #1 driver on the team, and Aston's push forward, I predict he'll re-sign with AM for next year.

    Drink can chaos:
Tht RB teams to chaotic internally for me. Like u said he's coming as an outside. 1 of 2 thing's will happen 1)like said with Merc he'll feel left and the will jus be a serious case of De ja vu or he'll have to pick sides which also isn't good for him or the team. A bad idea for me with the only saving grace being there a title a contender.
    Alonso's best bet
Stay at AMR. He's embedded into tht team already they've had a decent start of the back of last year having significantly less chaos then RB whilst currently showing more promise then Mercedes within the current regulations anyway. He should and I think will stay put.
