    The perfect fit for him is to partner Alonso at Aston Martin. But go tell that to papa Stroll

    • @The_ZeroLine
      @The_ZeroLine Před měsícem +40

      Exactly. So, the odds are very low. Even if Alonso leaves, AM will sign Sainz because they’ll want a big name at the team and Merc is going to sign Kimi. If Alonso leaves it’ll be for RB. So, he won’t even get an interim chance there. That leaves maybe Sauber or Alpine and I just can’t see Alpine picking up Yuki instead of keeping their French lineup.

      @@davicee.I love Yuki, but how do we know Honda is pressuring them? Sainz has more Japanese fans than Yuki. So, it’s not like the country will be demanding they put him on the team and Honda will want the best line up possible. So, unless they force Stroll out, they’ll want Sainz before Yuki if Alonso leaves and if Stroll leaves, I’m betting Honda would prefer Alonso and Sainz until Alonso retires. So, Yuki needs to stay put for a while.

      1) Not comparable, Norris was often over half a second quicker than Ricciardo in qualifying and LITERALLY destroyed him race pace and race craft wise (Norris took 7 podiums, Ricciardo 1, he also had 1 pole and scored something like double the points, which is insane given the more you go high in the hierarchy the more it's difficult to score more % percentage than your teammate).
      2) Norris is a truly great driver.
      He has, soft inputs, incredible feel for the tires (one of the best tire whisperer on the grid and he can do so while remaining fast) and incredible one lap pace.
      He established himself against drivers like Sainz and Piastri, while Yuki completely failed to do any impression against Gasly (except perhaps in the latter 2022, but Gasly was leaving the team).
      Tsunoda on the other hand is all about reflexes and late braking, he also relies on the others' drivers abilities to avoid crashes in order to craft his races.

    If you look back at the past 10 or so races, he has been by far the best "best of the rest" driver, even better than Albon who was by far the highest rated midfield driver in 2023 to that point. As Tommy from P1 said, if Daniel had been getting the results that Yuki has, he would be the clear frontrunner for that 2nd Redbull seat so I do feel sorry for Yuki but just proves F1 isn't always just about being fast.
    I fully agree he should start looking elsewhere, and he should not be let down by the fact that maybe Redbull aren't regarding him too highly. I personally think he should just stick it out with RB until end of 2025 unless for some miracle there is a seat available from the top 5 teams (I guess most likely is Stroll getting dropped, but even that is very unlikely), as probably RB is the best team out of the bottom 5 and he is obviously very comfortable there as well so he's got the best shot of delivering the best results.
    In 2026, maybe that's when he realistically has a shot at a move to Aston, or if not, there still could be options at a team like Alpine or Audi, which wouldn't be bad options. Maybe Williams as suggested in the video if they are able to show more signs of progress (though that's clearly not going very well so far). He would be 25 years old in the 2026 season, so he is still young and can spend a couple years to test and show his true potential so he doesn't need to feel pressured to have to make a big move immediately.

Especially if they are eyeing up another talent and they haven't made those same mistakes yet. I think Yuki's story with RB ends the same way as Gasly - they'll gladly take him to drive the AT but I agree - he's not getting the RB seat unless Max AND Checo both leave suddenly. Hi Aldas, great video and content as always. Love the constant presence of context in your content. As great as Yuki is nowadays, to your point, unless Honda backs him up past 2025, I think he'd be a great fit in indycar as a honda driver. With great results there, it could also put him back on the "top" driver market back to F1. Plus, given his age, that could get him a path similar to that of Takuma Sato who most people forget was an mid field driver back in his f1 days. Look at him now.

    I think the problem is this:
    1. He hasn't had a proper benchmark. Looking at his teammates, Gasly was the only consistent and stable benchmark, but that was still when Yuki was coming to grips with F1. Then he had Nick, who sucked, Ricciardo, who sucks and Lawson who was a total rookie and actually brought up the heat.
    We're praising Yuki for putting that RB in 10th, but the reality is that we don't _really_ know where that car stands. Maybe if Alonso drove it he could put it in 6th o 7th place. It's hard to meassure because Yuki hasn't had a consistent teammate of proven quality.
    2. While he has improved in his driving, he is still mentally a child who can't be trusted with a top seat. Look at that ridiculous display in Bahrain fighting for 13th, and imagine what would happen if he were alongside Max in a top car. He cannot be trusted and needs to prove otherwise. Yes, he has done better in the last 2 races temper-wise, but that's not enough. He needs to maintan consistency and show maturity throughout a season to earn Red Bull's respect.

    It’s looking more likely that Perez might keep his redbull seat. If he continues to beat Daniel throughout the season, and redbull really has promised Lawson a seat, Daniel gets replaced, otherwise redbull will look unserious if they let the quicker driver go. But even then, it seems like when yuki beats a driver, it’s looked at as the other driver underperforming instead.

  • @halflanding1900
    @halflanding1900 Před měsícem +1

    I’d add a small footnote to your narrative: _Marko has always rated Yuki,_ that’s why he was brought into F1 after just one year of F3 and one year of F2. Honda can’t make RBR do that, it’s Marko’s decision and he doesn’t care about marketing he judges purely on performance. Check out Marko’s comments over the years and he’s always said Yuki is fast he just needs to become consistent.
    It’s _Horner_ who hates Yuki’s guts. Remember the “We got Tsunoda’d” comment (which turned out not to be Yuki’s fault at all)? The latest is Australia pre-race where he went right past Yuki at the grid ignoring him to Daniel whom he encouraged. Of course Horner is personal buddies with DR, but the blatant favoritism like ignoring Yuki is so unprofessional.
    And the thing is Marko probably had a bigger say in terms of driver selection but after the passing of Mateschitz we’ve seen the power struggle which Horner seems to have come out victorious. So, I agree with you, RBR will never give a chance to Yuki.

    Yuki inarguably is even what I would consider one of the best drivers on the grid in some aspects looking back at his career the race that comes to mind that almost everyone ignores is his amazing defense against Lewis in the 2021 Brazil Sprint keeping him behind for much longer than what he should comparing the good midfield alpha to the jet that was that merc for that race. He also has had many other highlights in his career playing defense in ways that I think are only matched by the champions on the field like Lewis and Alonso. This season he is inarguably in the top 7 drivers on the grid. I really hope he manages to get out and leap frog to Aston and hopefully partner with Alonso and maybe if he continues on this upward trajectory and Aston keeps there trajectory I think we could see him challenge for a WDC. But I say all of this as a partially delusional Yuki die hard fan who still partially rates Riccardo.

    Huge Yuki fan, but let’s look at why he’s unlikely to have any options for ‘25:
    1. RBR (nope, especially w/Honda gone)
    2. Ferrari (all full)
    3. McLaren (all full)
    4. MB (90% chance of Kimi)
    5. Aston (assuming fans’ fantasy of Stroll leaving doesn’t happen, the only way FA leaves is for RBR in which case the seat is Sainz’s)
    6. Haas (OB and NH = 90% likely)
    7. Williams (maybe - it’s a Merc team though
    8. Sauber (it’ll be Sainz if he can’t get a seat at AM, which will only happen if FA goes to RBR and will require VB to get booted too)
    9. Alpine (they’re more likely to keep both drivers before signing Yuki)
    So, RB is probably the best holding pattern while he waits for Stroll to get kicked out or quit and/or Alonso retires).

Riccardo's only motivation & objective is that Red Bull seat, if get doesn't get it he's done & probably retiring, so you've got Lawson and one open spot at RB (which they might as well keep Yuki for another season as they don't have anyone else ready to step up)

I don't personally think Antonelli is going in to Merc already in 25, so I think it depends on who gets that open seat.
