Last week we asked the question "What if you could only win the F1 Driver's Championship once?".
How would the history of the sport be different when greats like Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton can only win 1 title? Who has the most wins all time? Does Nico Hulkenberg still have 0 podiums?
Part 2 takes us from 1990 to today, let's find out...

I love the storytelling you bring to this. It could so easily have been a simple rundown of the champions, but you bring the real life events into this parallel timeline to weave compelling narratives that would be the talk of the F1 World. That Massa stretch from 2006-2008 is especially compelling, particularly considering the real life 2008 Brazil GP. Bravo, Mr V!
F1 is all about the stories, it's what makes the sport magical. And so it was only right to look into the numbers and figure out the new stories

Nico Hulkenberg winning the championship made me hope for his first podium IRL
I like how in even this alternate reality max is a record breaking god
And even in this universe Hülkenberg has a very bad podium rate
Because he's an extremely consistent driver and has been pretty much since before he was 20.
In 2017, whenever he finished a race without severe mitigating circumstances (strategy at Monaco and Massa terrorism at Monza), he never finished behind a slower or equal car.
In 2018, whenever he finished a race without a skill issue (Australia spin, China crash, and Monaco FP3 crash), he never finished behind a slower or equal car. [This is the only time I have to exclude skill issues - the six race stretch to start the season is almost inarguably his worst stretch of races in his career, especially when considering races he finished. Hilariously, in this alternate timeline, he wins three of the four races he finished during that stretch, only finishing behind Ocon and Gasly at Monaco.]
In 2019 and 2020, whenever he finished a race without severe mitigating circumstances (Vettel terrorism at Silverstone 2019, engine penalty and Perez terrorism at Monza 2019, Bottas terrorism at Mexico 2019, and an asymmetrical front wing at Turkey 2020), he never finished behind a slower or equal car.
In 2021, he finished a race without severe mitigating circumstances (Bottas terrorism in Hungary) behind an equal car once (Hamilton at Bahrain) and behind a slower car zero times.
In 2022, whenever he finished a race without severe mitigating circumstances (Perez Q3 red flag at Monaco, blocked Venturi tunnel at Silverstone, qualifying strategy blunder at Singapore, setup issues at Brazil), he won.
In 2023, he finished a race without severe mitigating circumstances (Q2 engine failure at Jeddah and setup issues at Singapore) behind another car once (Perez at Baku).
So far in 2024, whenever he's finished a race, he's won.
the Massa winning in 2008 and losing emotionally in Brazil before jokes, the Hulkenberg podium jokes.....unbelievable
I think the metrics used to rate the goat in this timeline would be:
1. The fewest seasons to take the championship
2. Win percentage
3. Podium percentage
I am very curious who that is
Max. At least that is what it said at the end
@@MrRono19 you read that wrong.
1. Fewest seasons would be 1. This puts Stewart, Regazzoni, Villeneuve, and Hamilton tied
2. Win percentage for rookie winners.. CR was 75%, JV was 68%, LH was 52%, and JS was 40%
Don't forget that Clay Regazzoni also won F2 the same season he won F1 and only drove in 8/15 F1 races that year. Surely he has to be the GOAT
The weirdest part of this timeline: 19:46 Michael Masi follows all procedures correctly!
It's actually way funnier (and way worse) than real life - the safety car mistakenly picks up the nearly lapped Lando Norris, putting Sainz nearly a whole lap ahead of Lando (as well as Esteban Ocon), and the race director fails to wave the two cars through, which would be the standard procedure. Only after fierce lobbying from McLaren team principal Zak Brown did the race director finally order the safety car to give Norris and Ocon the wave through - but with only two laps until the checkered flag, and the fast pace of the safety car, Norris and Ocon were utterly unable to catch back up to the queue, with Norris finishing 55 seconds behind Sainz, never having an opportunity to attack for the win and the championship.
It took a while, but I found out who the GOAT of f1 is. Obviously, it's Mr. V
it's RPM actually
Yes RPM is the GOAT
13:46 is where the men cried tears of joy
All it took was a chance to the space-time continuum and Hülkenberg finally got his podium

Based on this video, it'd be interesting if F1 took the Vendee Globe model (the Vendee Globe is a 4-yearly round-the-world sailing race), where the reigning champion is forced to sit out the next edition, but can then freely compete after that. Unless they win again, in which case they are again forced to sit out a race.
Very good idea, looks like I'm busting out a new excel sheet! Don't expect any videos from me on the subject like this one though. I can't edit
I love the idea that Mercedes wouldn't compete for multiple years and then comeback with Russell to immediately win the championship and leave the sport again
About time. stuck on this cliffhanger for a bit.
Someone who hasn't scored a real life podium actually wins a championship? Legendary!!
I can easily live in this universe. Nico, Checo, Mark Webber, DC and Daniel win the WDC, Max breaks records, Schumacher doesn't do illegal things and most importantly Phil Hill doesn't win the title. Mr V, thank you for this amazing universe, where Danny Ric, Checo and DC become Champions.
It's funny - in a universe where Phil Hill probably *wouldn't* be the worst driver to become champion, he doesn't become champion.
This really shows how good Martin Brundle was in real life, and even here he still could not win a WDC. At least we had George Russell carrying the flag for King's Lynn 30 years later.
Brundle was a good driver but he spent his whole career in the shadow of greats
Don’t mind me. I’m just here to celebrate the Grosjean WDC!
If real life applies this system, I think it would be great to have a higher series, maybe Formula Legacy where only World Championship driver battle each other
but it would just become the new f1. It would be the same as only F2 champions can drive in F1.
I was thinking about it but I believe it would turn to be the new F1 Championship. Unless there was a twist like equal machinery for all drivers, less races, also the need for elimination because, remember, there would be a new retiring champion every year! In general it would be suitable as a ceremonial championship and not a really competitive one
@@panossavvaidis6086 OH THAT is great idea
Makes a point that maybe only drivers who have won F2 should be allowed to compete and they are then guaranteed a seat, by enforcing a rule that the driver who's been in F1 the longest must retire to make way.
@@samueldorrington8990 this rule would not apply to Alonso
As an Aussie fan, this gave Webber and Ricciardo victories, and seems likely to give Piastri one this year.
So I'd say that makes these videos all worth it.

Also It’s amazing to see Lando,Alex,Carlos,George and Charles Winning a title
Hope in real life,we will see a championship fight
what 2017/18 Renault engine does to a mf
Just realized Jules Bianchi would finish 2nd at Monaco in 2014
Yes, Marussia would have actually had a podium
Also in this timeline, Massa would not have his accident in hungary 2009 and thus not get injured and lose his form.
In this reality all the drivers would still be there, but the former champions would be racing for fun without gaining any points.
I like to think of it this way. They're still on the grid and still get prize money etc. but the championship is more "ceremonial" like a Hall of Fame type thing
Or maybe: former WDC still there without points, but their car still get WCC points, so teams would still want former WDC in their car to score WCC points
@@MrVsGarage That would make sense with things that can't be accounted for - like Felipe Massa wouldn't be able to terrorize Max Verstappen at the 2017 Italian Grand Prix if he was banned, but you obviously can't simulate the race if that hadn't happened, so Massa is still on track and competing just as hard as in our timeline.
And 2012 is still a banger!! Best season ever.
Seeing kvyat winning the title in 2015 feel satisfying tbh

i absolutely love the idea of the two videos and i only (gladly) found your channel because of part 1. The way that F1 has turned out since 1950 with all its storylines (i. e. Lauda/Hunt with the movie Rush) and legendary drivers (Senna, Prost, Schumacher,....) still feels right. Of course it would be a great piece of history with the likes of Senna (or for me as an Austrian Jochen Rindt) still talking about the sport and racing of the old days but on the other side we wouldn't know if they would be legends they are today or if the sport would be as famous as it is today.

Awesome part 2. The safety discussion at the end was really strong - I also loved the storytelling from 12:05 about how well WDC winners are doing in other series, and whether the rule should be changed to allow them back in 😂 really enjoyed these.
I wanted to show that as much as people complain about dominant eras, when you take them away it makes the sport feel... wrong.
Also, I think lots of newer fans aren't really aware about the amount of on track fatalities in early F1 and the reasons why the sport needs to be so strict on safety

Even in this reality BMW abandoning development of their car in 2008 fucks Kubica over
But hey we get a Hulk championship, that makes me happy
Yeah Kubica just can't catch a break 😔
@MrVsGarage I have an other idea for a long time:
Drivers are not connected to teams. Instead, they do the first 12 races in each teams. Then, the pilots with the most points will do the rest 12 races in the top 3 teams.
This way, no pilot will dominate for 5 years just because a team got one technical rule better than the rest. And we get to find out who is the best pilot. And the best team still wins.
i think if the champion did get banned for 2 consecutive seasons like in f2, AND with the current f1 points, trust that got complicated, but i figured out G. Hill would win 1 extra would champion in 1965, cause clark being suspended, and Schekter winning the championship as Lauda is suspended, but this is only championship as his only title in real life is during is his banned period, i'm currently in 1979. and also you can still compete just you won't score points but are allowed to do so for the constructor they race for so at least there aren't low numbers of drivers.
Post your working so far!
Yeah I think it would be much more likely that drivers stay and score Constructors points but just can't score Driver Championship points anymore. It becomes like a "Hall of Fame" thing to add one new person each year
@@MrVsGarage exactly and i figured out that schekter would the championship in 1977 and then be banned for 1979 which gilles Villeneuve won
@@d9zirable file:///C:/Users/callu/Documents/Alternative%20Timeline%201.pdf i think opens up my pdf file
This makes me wanna travel to the alternate reality where the F2 champ rule is applied to F1 the whole way, just seeing the new stories that would've unfolded, each driver having their own mini eras and the pure magical silly seasons that would've occurred by one driver being guaranteed to retire as well as the storylines between people who consistently make it P2 in WDC finally clinching their titles makes this super duper interesting as a case study that I'm now starting to wish actually happened
it's interesting, but having only 8 cars in F1 is definitely not good. I like the idea that this is a sort of Hall of Fame championship. The normal championship still happens and everyone is still racing, but there's a second leaderboard just for people who aren't in the Hall of Fame and one new person is added each year like this.
@@MrVsGarage Kind of like the F1.5 championship, which removes the two (or more) teams which are able to compete for podiums.
I WANNA SEE ALL OF THE STATS FOR THIS

PODIUM PERCENTAGE
and more things that i cant think about rn
Someone with more time can verify theses, but I think its:

Podium Percentage - Lewis Hamilton with 82%
Points Percentage - Lewis Hamilton with 94%
Rookie Winners - Jackie Stewart, Clay Regazzoni, Jaques Villeneuve, Lewis Hamilton

Great that you rise awareness for safety in end
Hmm... maybe a follow up video, some time down the line, of course, where a Champion is indeed able to reenter the sport after 2 seasons break? I wonder how that would've played out.
Pretty sure Schumacher just dominates every season he comes back. Prost and Lauda still have quite a few titles. Hamilton has a lot but maybe not as many as Schumacher. Verstappen has just returned looking for #3
