+pawnsacrifice1 Mick Green kicks ass like no other axe man i know(or knew)Funnily enough ,many people think Mick played with Kidd on "Shakin` all over"It was actually Joe Moretti session player who brilliantly played it.He later went to South Africa where he died a couple of years ago.He was the leading guitar session player over there.Wilko has a similar style to Mick but doesn`t give it the b**ls Mick does.R.I.P.Mick,Joe and stay with us for a bit yet Wilko.

The band I saw the most in the 70s..the gigs were so intense..just brilliant! .great blokes too..I was a proper punk back in 78 and this great band had an 80% punk audience coz they could cut it..seriously play up against any of the new bands and we loved it..they even played top bill at reading in 78..that was a heck of a thing for a band with its roots in the early 60s..so yeah this band are my heroes!

Mick Green taught so many of the guitarist's of his time how to really play a guitar, I saw him play 10 times & Clapton about 8 times, so I know the difference, and I played bass guitar for a famous group of the time & met them personally, but both were fantastic. Memories for life!

Wilko Johnson sent me here, why you ask....well, Wilko was a honest sort of man who without attempting to became a legend. Wilko consistently stated Mick Green as his mentor his inspiration . Another guitar player mentioned Mick Green also, that would be Pete Townsend, yes THAT Pete. Wilko refined what he learned from Mick. Wilko always went to extremes to make it known about Mick, this is a main reason, one of the main reasons, why I think Wilko is a legend , a legend to friendship and loyalty,, oh yeah he was a genius on the guitar , a Telecaster of course

A phenomenal band! Up there with Led Zep, ZZ Topp and The Who - The Pirates should have been as big as those other power trios. You might disagree (feel free) but maybe Frank the drummer wasn’t quite up with Keith and Bonzo. But as for raw power and sheer rock, The Pirates were the best!

I saw The Pirates live in late December 1979 at The Birmingham Odeon, when they supported AC/DC on the extended leg of the Highway to Hell Tour, where Def Leppard has been support for the original dates. Sadly, the drums were so loud that they drowned out the sound of the rest of the band.

I saw JK and The Pirates during the early Sixties at the old Picardy cinema in Harlesden. Another cinema in Luton and The California on the edge of Dunstable Downs and not forgetting an amazing night at The Boat House Kew.
Johnny Kidd had an amazing voice and his stage presentation was the best of any uk singer.
I know that a great deal of The Pirates presentation was a result of Freddie s tuition. He was also a great song writer, given the right support and encouragement, he would probably been Britain's number one Rock writer.
