After seeing this video, decided to purchase it from TGP, it took aprox 6 days to receive the unit. It took me about 1/2 day to install it because I also purchased the front camera kit. Routing the camera wire through the driver side grommet to the engine compartment took the longest time. The actual head unit replacement only took about an hour, very straight forward attaching the plugs. Very happy with the unit, looks very elegant in my 2018 Tundra CM. The team at TGP were very helpful, great customer service
Such amazing feedback! We sincerely appreciate you very much!!
How’s the unit treating u 8 months later?
For anyone curious - this setup worked AMAZING on my 2014 Sequoia SR5.
Woohoo! Such amazing news!!
i was wondering, it doesnt offer the 9500es for the 07-13 tundra. same dash far as i can tell. any pics of finished install? thanks
Need this for my 17 Tundra!
Yep, you'd love it!
I just order one. Thanks!
Woohoo! Thanks so much! You’ll love it!!
Great kit! With the Sony HU do you still get access to the factory settings like the lighting, when to lock doors, how quickly lights dim etc etc?
Yep! Any settings that you could control with your factory radio are maintained with this bundle!
Wow excellent video.
Thanks so much!!
Currently doing my research on purchasing a new HU, I watched his other video on the Alpine unit. This sony looks much better and for one, Sony in my opinion is a better name brand. I will be getting this HU in the near future from their website! Love the video and the thorough explanation of how to install.
We appreciate your comment! Both units are tremendous upgrades over stock! You can't go wrong!
Great video. This will go nice with my Arc audio system I have in my 21 tundra Pro.
Thank you! Yes, it will absolutely go well with your set up!
I have zero issues with my 2020 Trd pro touchscreen. I wouldn’t bother with it this as it’s not like going from a AM/FM cassette to a massive touchscreen.
thanks for taking time to stumble through a sentence that no one could understand.
@Trail Grid Pro, do you prefer/recommend this Sony 9500ES or the Alpine iLX-F511? I am undecided on which I should get to upgrade my 2016 Toyota Tundra.
Thank you for commenting! We love both units but it depends on your personal preference and your setup goals!
Great video.
I have a 19’ sequoia platinum. I want to order from you but not sure if the dash kit is the same.
We don't have Sequoia kits at this time but we're working on it!
I got this about a year ago from you guys and love it! Do you know how to update the firmware or have a process on how to? I don't see any micro SD or USB slots on the device itself.
Glad you love it! Yep, here’s how to update your firmware: trailgridpro.com/blogs/news/how-to-update-your-sony-9500es-firmware
I ordered this from Crutchfield for an 07’ Tundra CM. I have everything hooked up but am not sure which wire is the speed sensor wire. Any chance you would share that info with me? My understanding is it is the white wire behind the deck. Thanks for the detailed disassemble video, it helped a lot. Love your kits, wish I had one.
Yep! It's the white wire behind the head unit!
Does this use the factory GPS antenna? Love the value of these P&P bundles. Time to upgrade my 2015 Tundra. Now I need to decide between this or Alpine 509.
Yep, it uses your factory GPS antenna!
Definitely better than the stock radio unit. Does the anytime camera still work with this setup? if so, do you use the button with the camera or can you use the touch screen for it?
We are currently working on compatibility with the Anytime kit, however the Sony 9500ES has 3 different camera inputs that are easily controlled by the head unit itself ... so you can simply add a front camera to your truck and give it power and ground ... and plug the male RCA into Camera Input 1 on the back and you'll have a front facing camera controlled by the head unit.
@@TrailGridPro I also have the anytime camera, it wouldn't just work plugging into factory rear camera input? I'm fine with the front rear selector from anytime
How does it compare to the kenwood DNR1007XR?? Does the Sony retain the cluster navigation output like the kenwood with built-in navigation?
We've honestly never tested the Kenwood you're referring to. Sorry!
Trail grid pro, I have an important question before I purchase. You said in the video when doing the plug and play. GPS location, what if my 2014 tundra does not have maps already OEM. Will I still be able to have apple car play with google maps after install of the HU?
Great question! If your vehicle doesn't have factory navigation, all you need to do is use the puck style antenna included with your bundle!
I have a 2018 and I hate how the stock redid sits. Can you tilt the screen so it’s facing the driver more?
It cannot tilt left to right. Sorry!
dose this unit maintain all factory function like vehicle information for a 2018 tundra with a JBL system with rear sub?
Yep, it sure does!!
Woow❤
Thanks for your kind words!
I'm guessing we would have to purchase a factory amplifier bypass harness for a 2018 amplified non-JBL to use the Sony's built-in amp for the front door speakers?
Nope, you don’t have to. Our kit works flawlessly with JBL amplified, Non-JBL amplified or non-amplified Tundra’s!
After further reviewing the wiring diagram, it looks like the factory head unit powers the front dash speakers and rear tweeters while also supplying a high level input signal to the factory amplifier for the front and rear door speakers. There's a J68 and J69 connector that is wired in parallel between the factory head unit and dash speakers & rear tweeters that supplies the factory amplifier signal. I'm curious where those connectors are located and how easy it would be to splice into them. My goal is to use the Sony in an active 3-way front only setup. 6.5" in the front doors, 2.5" in the dash, and subs.
I think I need this ha. I have a 19’ tundra trd pro. Factory stereo is just bleh. I’ve always disliked the units toyota uses. But I still want something reliable and name brand. Always scared to buy these off brand ones that look cool but have comments about owners with electrical glitches.
Totally understand! Sony is obviously a trusted brand! And, this kit has a 3-year warranty!
I saw your answer to the front camera question, so that’s cool. I run my front camera off the switch (amazing upgrade by the way). My actual question; can the screen be dimmed?
Good question! You can set the screen to dim when the vehicle's headlights are turned on!
@@TrailGridPro Took you long enough! lol Just kidding. I actually have a tab open currently to this on your site still.
Do you have a video on how to install front camera?
We don't have one specifically for this kit, but our Anytime Front Camera video is a great reference for that process!
Does this block the 3rd vent from hitting/blowing air on driver ?
Nope, not that we've experienced.
Why do you need to add an additional mic, it doesn’t connect to the oem mic in the roof?
Great question! There are currently no adapters available to connect an aftermarket head unit to the factory microphone, so the supplied microphone must be used.
It turns out the factory toyota mic is amplified so you would have to find the cables splice them to stereo jack that would plug into the back of the head unit, then you would have to find a way to power the Mic amp to get it to turn on.
Thanks for your comment! We haven't heard of that!
Has there been any progress on the microphone adaptor mount kit for the 21 Tundra? Thank you.
Still working on it! Thanks for your patience!
@@TrailGridProany ETA?
I’m getting an error message about the GPS when trying to setup CarPlay. Shouldn’t it be working correctly due to the kit connecting to my trucks existing GPS plug?
Thanks for commenting! Feel free to reach out to our support team through our website and we'll be happy to help!
I like your vids - pretty well explained and good camera angles.
I have some questions though: the turn by turn navigation in the center dash rectangle won’t work with the Sony, right? Also, did you all ever make the mic adapter for the Tundra? I’ve been looking around your store but can’t seem to find it. Lastly, what other functions can and can’t be controlled from the steering wheel buttons that weren’t covered in this video?
Turn by turn will display on your new head unit but the information between your gauges is tied to your factory head unit and will not display. It will just be a blank screen. We do have a mic mount for the Tundra! We send it with all kits. All other steering wheel controls, functions, etc. are retained.
Does this unit have obd-II capability? Looks amazing, btw
Yep, it sure does!
Does anyone know if this is compatible with the OEM Audio Plus amp/sub kit?
Yep, it sure is!
We still have to buy the idatalink maestro module separately right? and if i decide to add a 4 channel amp later on will i need to install a seperate wire harness?
You will not need to purchase the Maestro Module separately. It's included with our kit! If you install an amp you can use the RCA's on the back of the radio to connect it easily!
@@TrailGridProawesome! Thanks! 👍 Just ordered mine from you guys a few days ago, can't wait to install it!
Question, this stereo comes with specific hardware, the chassis adapter for the Toyota Tundra 2021? Or the chassis adapter and harness needs to be ordered separate?
Our kit will come with all necessary wiring, dash kit components, and adapters for a plug and play install on your truck!
Thank you!
Can the Maestro gauge have manual PID's programmed into it. I am specifically looking for trans temps. Currently run a scan gauge 2 to see them which had to be manually set and uses the OBD port.
Thanks
Great question! We're not 100% sure on programming new PID's to the Maestro, but the module does already support transmission temp!
Great thanks
as part of plug an play, this will show me engine info?@@TrailGridPro
Does that Sony put out more power to the speakers compared to the factory unit? Also, can you add external amps
Yep, the Sony head unit has about twice as much power as a non-JBL head unit!
I am planning to purchase this unit from TGP, will it be configured to work on a 2011 Toyota Sequoia Platinum, Will steering wheel controls work without using any adapters?
Will the Toyota backup camera work, or do I have to upgrade to an aftermarket one?
If I upgrade to an aftermarket backup camera, do I have to run a new wire for the camera?
Thanks.
We'll have a 2011 compatible bundle soon! Hoping before the end of the year!
Will you have these for the 4runner anytime soon?
Yep, coming soon!
So does the rear camera come on automatic when in reverse or do you have to navigate to it??
Your rear camera functionality is retained with our kit ... meaning when you put your vehicle in reverse your rear camera image will display on the head unit!
can you also switch on manually when not in reverse?@@TrailGridPro
Did this head unit upgrade the actual sound the stereo puts out?
Oh yes! It sure does!
Can you change the angle of the screen...upwards ??
Yep, you can!
Great vid - does the bundle retain steering wheel controls?
It sure does!
For most head units you have to add an expensive adapter to get back the controls.
Great video, A great upgrade. Can that Sony microphone be installed in factory microphone location or factory microphone be used in place of Sony Microphone? Thanks
Our kit does require use of our provided Sony microphone and we're working on a mic mount to store it in the overhead console but we don't have it released yet.
@@TrailGridProany update?
Does this make the stock jbl toyota system louder at all?
Absolutely. The Sony 9500ES has more power than the factory radio and a much cleaner audio signal so you can expect an improved audio performance in your vehicle.
Anyway to get the factory MIC to work with this head unit?
Our kits do require use of our provided Sony microphone
will the screen interfere with a column mounted shifter on an SR Tundra?
We haven't actually had any 4Runners with the column mounted shifter in-shop to test fitment, but we haven't had any issues reported from customers!
Does this unit require an upgrade from the original amplifier or speakers?
Nope, it sure doesn't! It'll work flawlessly with your existing amp and speakers!
Is there any way I can use it also as a boost gauge?
Hmm, we're not aware of any conflicts there but we also haven't tested it.
I installed the kit today , when I put the truck in reverse the camera doesn’t turn on automatically, can you please helpwith that issue ?
We certainly can! If you haven't already, shoot us an email to support@trailgridpro.com and we'll be quick to assist!
Was loving everything, until the microphone issue. Can you keep us updated on the microphone issue??
What issue with the microphone?
The one where it doesn't work and you have to install a new one...? Just a guess
Does this come with sat radio module ?
Good question! You can select to retain Sirius XM at checkout and your bundle will include the Sirius module!
So two questions, 1. will they ever update the system to work with the OEM mic? I would rather not have to wire a new mic. 2. Does the back up camera come on when I shift to reverse like the OEM does? If the answer is yes to both of these Ill buy today. lol
GREAT QUESTIONS....especially the back-up camera one. Anyhow with an answer? I'd be buying one too.
As of now, the provided Sony mic is required and your backup camera will trigger just like with your factory head unit when you put your vehicle in reverse!
Yep, backup camera is triggered on the screen just like with your factory head unit!
Will there be a 4Runner one soon?
Yes, there will be soon!
I have a 2007 4runner and I'm just about to install it - so glad I saw this video! Very informative. You mention the dash kit - which brand and model did you use for this? Any thoughts on one for my year/4runner?
We use Metra dash kits - they should have one for your rig as well!
Will this model work on Toyota tundra 2011?
I got a 2019 Tundra SR without navigation. Will this still work? Does the kit come with a gps antennae?
Yep, it'll work flawlessly!
@@TrailGridProdoes the screen shake when you drive?
Does this make the jbl system suck less?
Lol. Yes.
Can you use a magic Jack with this?
We've never tried but it might work!
Are you showing us the XAV-9500ES is a direct plug and play for a Tundra? Many of these videos the guys doing the work usually have some kind of harness adapting the steering wheel controls. If so, it seems you have skipped over that very important detail.
Our kit retains your steering wheel controls - we don't talk about it much because we pre-assemble the kits prior to shipping so all you need to do is make your connections and all of it will work perfectly!
Can this head unit be compatible with my 11 tundra platinum?
It can with a different setup of wiring and adapters. We don't have any kits readily available, but that may be something we carry very soon! Stay tuned!
can someone answer, please. I'm so used to connecting to a radio via Bluetooth and the sound/music sounding like crap....always switching to a wired connection. Will this do the same or will I be blown away by the sound with NO WIRES connected to my phone?
We have these in our personal Toyotas and the sound is fantastic!
@@TrailGridPro awesome! when I put truck in reverse, will the rear camera automatically pop up, or do I have to select that all the time?
@@flyingarrow7955 it will automatically display!
@@TrailGridPro well than. I believe I’m ordering one by the end of the day!! Thx for the quick responses.
What did you do with the blue wire that is attached to the antenna adapter cable?
The blue wire is attached/soldered to the remote wire.
Will it fit on a 2016 Sienna?
Hmm, not sure ... we've never tried!
Why can’t the factory microphone be used ?
Exactly. It’s complete BS if they can use the steering wheel controls they can use the factory microphone.
This is why aftermarket crap is full of glitches. You can never use everything. There’s always something that doesn’t quite work.
God damn that’s annoying to look at, standing off the dash. Piss poor design!
We now have a custom microphone mount that can be used to mount the Sony microphone in the factory location for a clean factory look!
Hi. Will this unit work on a 2014 tundra
Yep, it sure will!
What’s in the bundle that doesn’t come from Sony?
Great question! We include all necessary dash kit components, wiring, and modules to make the unit totally plug and play for your vehicle!
Does this work for factory jbl trucks?
Yep! It absolutely does!!
How many volts do the RCA jacks put out?
The 9500ES puts out 5 volt preout voltage!
@@TrailGridPro Nice! Good clean power to push the amps.
Which headunit is better sony es9500 or pioneer zf9350bt
Great question! We've never tested the Pioneer so unfortunately we can't provide a comparison. Sorry!
@@TrailGridPro but i hv used both now & i hv install sony xav es 9500 .....way better than pioneer in terms of screen , touch response way faster than pioneer & produce way better sound .....sony es 9500 is the beast...9/10 sony 1 marks deduct just bcoz of hdmi it dosn't hv & 6/10 user interface so laggy sony ui interface & overall looks smooth & elegant ....

how's this work with an android?
Same way as with Apple CarPlay ... just loads Android Auto instead. Flawless.
Is the screen detachable?
It's detachable but not like I think you're referring to. It's not a quick-detach or anything.
What if my tundra doesn’t have the shift nob
What does it have?
@@TrailGridProhe probably has an 2013 SR? Those are column shift.
How can we get some Netflix on here
Easy. Iphone jailbreak, carbridge, play anything on your phone on the screen of car play compatible headunits. I was using my head unit with playstation cload gaming to play BO Zombies on my head unit with my ps5.
There are several ways noted online to mirror your phone image onto the screen which can be used to watch videos!
How long does it usually take if i order it to get shipped?
We’re running about 4 business days at the moment.

Can the camera function be activated without having to navigate to “all apps” to find the camera? Is it possible to rearrange the icons to save them on the Home Screen?
Will you guys have a 9500es kit for the 07-13 Tundra?
