How did you connect the white end and the black end of the OBD harness? I know the OBD side goes into the OBD port under the steering column, but where did the other 2 ends get plugged into? I found a spot for the white end but nothing for the black end and my system isn't turning on (I'm assuming that's why).
@@joshrhoades3940 the kit comes pre-wired. I didn't have to splice anything, folks at #tailgridpro did all the splicing, I just plugged and assembly.

I just installed this very unit on my 2017 Tacoma TRD-Off Road. I used this install video as a guide for me and I have to say...it was every bit as easy as this video demonstrates. This new head unit in my opinion after two weeks use is FANTASTIC! The feature and functions it offers and provides in use are crisp and responsive. It perfectly integrated with my steering wheel functions and provides me with engine and vehicle information that my stock head unit didn't. The coolest thing for me is that I now have wireless Apple CarPlay that has been incredibly quick and responsive. A lot more I could mention and talk about but you get my point...I'm very happy with this new unit.

Installed this kit/unit into my 2017 Pro from Trail Grid. They did all the wiring, was stupid simple to install. So much better using Gaia Maps on a large screen. Only thing I changed was moved the storage bin from the top to the bottom so the radio sits higher and the new bin is accessible (you can see what I’m referring to during the main head unit install before the screen goes on)

I hate to say it but this set up is amazing. Had my doubts. Liget no brainer. Works amazing with jbl factory speakers and sub. Dont know If anyone mentioned this, but my audio system sounds so much better with this head unit

Watch this video, watch the overhead mic video, and everything will work as advertised and you will NOT be disappointed. Can you do a follow-up video on this answering everyone's recurring questions? I really love this upgrade and want one myself. But there is a lot of questions in the comments and not answered in the video. Answers on the ease of use of the eagle eye view, anytime front camera, does the front camera get rid of the blocked section? Are you saying the camera view button on the left driver side is inoperative now?

Do you lose any functionality of the factory cameras or switches? For instance the trail cam and 360 eagle eye cam(s)? I really like those cameras and their factory switches
You can maintain access to those cameras by assigning them to steering wheel control functions via the flash process of the maestro module.

Our kit is a comprehensive kit! It comes with everything you need to install it in your rig and it will maintain your steering wheel controls!
That looks awesome, I want to purchase this but had a couple of questions.
1. Do the stock steering wheels controls and the dashboard display all still work as normal?
2. Can you confirm video playback works while driving with the latest firmware? (youtube, itunes, etc.)
3. Can you provide torx style screws to secure the screen just for extra layer of security?
Steering wheel controls will work like normal, but with any aftermarket head unit installation you will lose the native GPS on your gauge cluster. We don't currently keep Torx screws on hand for that application but we would be happy to give you the specs on that hardware if you'd like to swap it out! Feel free to send us an email!

Absolutely! It would jam with an aftermarket amp!

Looks like 10.1” but only 8” of visible screen with huge bezel.
If those are factory cameras, they will be retained by the Maestro module!

I am on the fence about buying this headunit. Can you clarify if installing this headunit will retain the front dash information screen like in the factory unit. For example, does the compass, music currently playing, hold to mute button on the steering wheel, and seek track button on the steering wheel, and volume up and down on the steering wheel still function as normal as with the factory headunit on the Tacoma?

Is the boot up time as fast as the factory headunit?

Does the Anytime front/back camera switch still behave the same on this headunit. Does the switch still functions as a manual override for the front and rear camera?

Some guage cluster information will be lost such as your compass and native navigation. Song info will display on the head unit.
All of your steering wheel controls will be retained! Including volume and hold to mute!
The Anytime camera kit will function the same as before but some additional wiring will be required to integrate the two. Feel free to shoot us an email for more info!

Great question! At the moment no adapters exist for the factory microphone wiring.
I’m purchasing a 2017 sr5 and I know that the 360 degree view or “Birds Eye” view only came out in 2020+ is there away if I’ve installed a camera on the front to get this option to work?

How much extra work goes into running the microphone to the factory microphone spot? This thing is awesome minus having to have the microphone at the Guage cluster.
Running the microphone to the overhead console microphone spot was really easy. The installation video provided was great. The only question I have is that I already had a microphone in that spot with about 3 or 4 wires in the connection. I just moved the stock microphone to an empty area and left it connected (wasn’t sure what all the wires were for). I then installed the Sony microphone in the adapter and clipped it in the console slot. Everything seems to be working great.
It is very easy and took me like 10 min to run the mic in the headliner like the other video.
Great question! Running the microphone to the factory location is much easier than it sounds!

Just installed this unit on my 20' Tacoma TRD Off Road.
I have 1 7pin plug with nowhere for it on the radio side, and one blue plug with nowhere for it to plug in on the radio side.
The speed is way off???? Between 5 and 15mph off at almost all times. How can this be since the unit is getting information from the factory ecu? Regardless, it makes the track timers useless. i know it's a Tacoma and not built for speed, but why have it if it's so wrong?

I have this unit in my 14’ Tundra Platinum, but only the dash speakers work. Is the Tacoma JBL different than the Tundras JBL?
Yes, Tundra's have three options: JBL amplified, non-JBL amplified and non-amplified.
Don't you have to run a cable to the port underneath your dash in order to get the vehicle info on the stereo? How is it gathering the info from the stereo alone? I'll be super impressed if it's a function of this stereo alone.
It depends on the year of your Toyota. Some vehicles don't require it and some do.
You mentioned that you could still use the USB to charge but does the wired carplay still work with it? I don't use my phone for music. I use 2 classic ipods and with out wired carplay then they'd be useless.
This unit only has wireless CarPlay - CarPlay will still run when your phone is connected for charging!

Question did this truck have the PVM/MTM installed or is the New Head Unit generating the steering angle lines?
The steering angle lines are factory, but the 9500 will add its own set of grid lines that can be turned on/off!

I have the base model Tacoma (2021 SR), which doesn't come with the more detailed info such as tire pressure display. Will this unit still have those features even though they aren't available on my current factory head unit, since I only have the SR?
Any information that's available will be displayed. If your vehicle doesn't have individual TPMS readings then it won't show.
Is this compatible with the multi terrain monitor ?
Or the camera button on the left side of the steering wheel?

So I have a 2017 Tacoma. It does not have the JBL system in it. It has the other factory radio with the 6inch screen. Its the 2wd version with the SR5 trim level. The vehicle does not have a gps. Will the sony xav-9500ES work with this vehicle

Yes, it will fit your vehicle. This system has an HD quality screen so it's better than factory.
Really nice. 2 questions. 1) Are there any features that will be lost from 21 stock head unit w/JBL? Example the Stinger looses some of the settings in the 2020 and up head units like the option to set door unlock driver only, or unlock all on first push. 2) Are there instructions included if you have the anytime front camera installed? Your door lock feature capability is retained with our kit! You won't lose any factory settings you can control via your head unit! Regarding the front camera - with the 9500 you have three camera inputs, so you can actually connect your front camera directly to one of the camera inputs and show your front or rear camera at anytime via your head unit and will no longer need the anytime harnesses or the switch.

All of your factory cameras will still function with the 9500ES, and still plug and play!

At this time the 9500 does not have streaming capability. Great question though! Our Sony 8100 and 6000 does have an HDMI input so you can stream Netflix, etc. trailgridpro.com/the-sony-shop/
Sucks that we cant see the transmission temperatures with this unit. The only reason why I bought this thing.
It's our understanding that some trim levels will pull that info while others are a bit more finicky and we haven't identified the issue just yet. Sorry about that!
I can't tell if I prefer this or the integrated look of the smaller 6000 and 4000 options... I wonder which is has less glare?
We've used all of them, and haven't had glare issues with the Tacoma because the cabin is so compact.

How is the quality of the backup camera? Couldn’t really tell that good.
The quality of the backup camera is okay. Remember, you're going from a smaller screen to a MUCH larger HD screen so you can expect some of the imperfections in the backup camera quality to be evident.
Love it but why make the veseell so wide in the corners ?????
It's a super thin display so the bezel is required to fit all the components of the screen!
Can you watch youtube? Or connect your phone screen to play on the trucks screen?
There are ways to mirror your phone onto the screen!
I installed the side cameras on my tacoma are they compatible with this?

If they're aftermarket but use RCA they will be compatible with the unit but will not trigger when the turn signal is on. If they're a factory add-on, they will function the same as stock!

I think he said that there is a way to retain the overhead mic, but the jack still needs to plug into the back of the unit.
Good question! The Sony will come with a microphone that can be mounted in the factory location using our microphone mount!
Does this automatically integrate with a Rockford Fosgate DSR-1?
Unfortunately we're not familiar with the Rockford DSR1 but since the 9500ES has an EQ you probably won't need the DSR1.

my headunit has a shake to it. when i put some pressure it stops. everything is tight. what can i do
We've had customers pad the corners of the head unit chassis with soft padding material between the radio and the inside of the dash!
Doesn’t seem like it fits flush, a lot of gap in the back. Is there a way to adjust it ?
This unit is a floating screen, so there will be a slight gap between the screen and your dash. Some adjustments can be made, but we set them to what we found provides the best fitment in a Tacoma!
Does this have Netflix app or CZcams music app?
What do you guys do when you go off-roading and signal is bad or non existent?
The OnX Off-Road app is excellent for this! You can download the maps in advance to access them when you don't have reception!

lol, that means you need to have at least 4 cameras installed (back, both sides, and front). No, it does not have 360 degree camera.

It doesn't have stand alone. It will use Google it Apples GPS.
That is correct! The Sony utilizes your phones cellular connection to function Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for navigational purposes. If you have an Apple Phone, you'll have access to Apple Maps, Waze & Google Maps via Apple CarPlay and if you have an Android Phone you'll have access to Google Maps & Waze.

Why the factory mic don’t work with this aftermarket unit
Unfortunately there's no way to maintain the factory mic with any of our aftermarket bundles at this time.
I have one of these, while I do like it , it does freeze sometimes and it's hard to get it to unfreeze. The resolution of the screen is very low, 480p, definitely lower than 720p and looks blurry up close. I just think you should know the cons before you buy this as influencers do not mention then.

If your unit freezes that’s not normal and if you got it from us let us know via 301.835.9100 and we can handle a warranty swap for you. The screen is an HD 720p display that has an anti-glare layer.

It will! The TSS Package is appearance only.
Can you install other apps like CZcams or a game from playstore?
Any Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatible apps that you have on your phone will display on your head unit!

Great question! These units don't come equipped with Tidal out of the box, but Tidal is now CarPlay compatible and can be accessed using your phone connected to CarPlay!
Can this kit compatible with oem usb port and oem gps?
Our kit does maintain your factory USB location for charging your phone - the OEM GPS connection is used for wireless CarPlay/Android Auto capability.

We currently only carry kits for Tundras, Tacomas, 4Runners and Sequoias. I would have a look at Crutchfields website for components needed on a Yaris!
How do you adjust it is it seems a bit un-level?
Great question! The screen can be adjusted using the screws behind the screen, and you can adjust the chassis using the hardware that attaches the dash kit side brackets!
Any OEM installation that would make it look clean?
Good question but I'm not sure what you mean! The finished product after installation is very clean!

Wish this was available for my 2019 4Runner... So bummed out because the stock head unit stinks and can't deal so I pulled the trigger and got the 8100 version. I know I'll probably be happy but still be upset because I'd rather the features of the 9500...
you can see in other videos that Cliff has it in his 4Runner, so it's probably coming.

We are working with Metra to redesign the hazard button on the new dash kit. Currently it doesn’t fit in certain trim levels.
The 8100 is a strong and time-tested bundle so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. We really wanted to release the 9500ES for 4Runners to be our first bundle that fits the entire line of 5th Gen 4Runners (2010 - 2022) but we ran into a little issue when installing it in Cliff’s. He has a 2020. For some reason Toyota changed the hazard button connector in 2020, so our 2010 - 2019 dash kit hazard button surround doesn’t work - so, we have Metra currently working on it but it’s looking like a late 2022 or early 2023 availability for 2020+ 4Runners. I think what we’re going to do is release the 2010 - 2019 4Runner 9500ES version very soon and add the 2020+ compatibility when the hazard surround is done. Hopefully that info helps!

These units do not have a built-in GPS receiver like the original head unit, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support many navigation apps that will fill that void!

Great question! The 9500ES only features wireless CarPlay
