Here’s WHY the 2024 Toyota Tundra WASN’T Included in the Recall

  • Here’s why the 2024 Model Year Tundra wasn’t included in the recent safety recall. I’d be shocked if they weren’t truly affected by the debris issue too. But halting sales on the already backlogged Tundra would be detrimental to Toyota’s bottom line.
What do you think? Is the 2024 Toyota Tundra apart of this safety recall? It’s a shame seeing Toyota flounder like this on their flagship pickups… the 2024 Tacoma having serious transmission issues doesn’t help anything. Thanks for watching as always, please consider Liking and Subscribing if you found any value in this type of content. Much more to come!

You nailed it, again. The stock on the lot is a liability they have to move before they can recall it. Simple solution here: DO NOT buy a 3rd Gen Tundra, 4th Gen Tacoma, soon to come 6th Gen 4Runner (and possibly the turbo'ed Land Cruiser and Lexus GX) until Toyota's quality control failure and exhorbitant pricing era have passed. Your money is better spent elsewhere. Everything that made Toyota trucks great (bulletproof reliability, fair pricing, incredible resale) is all gone now.

Also when you look at the facts Toyota is not being transparent. Many reports of main bearing failure/camshafts blowing up on 2024's. You can bet they know about those as they are in service bays. Yet the story saying debris left in engine on 22's and 23's. Many dealers have these stacked on the lots. If they recall those there would be a stop sell across the board. I am still not convinced that the left over shavings (or metal debris) are causing the Tundra engines to break down. Not that it is not possible, but I doubt that they did not catch that during a quality control check. There were similar reporting failures with the Lexus LS500, so maybe the cause of the engine failures is not what Toyota says.
In my opinion, people are buying Toyota vehicles mostly because of their reputation for reliability, building long lasting vehicles, and having higher resale values. The issue with the new Tundra is, even if they fix the issue with this new engine, that truck will never hold its value as the old Tundra did. Just look at the engine bay and see how inaccessible it is to work on. Would you buy such a truck knowing that some simple fixes will require costly repairs like separating the cab from the frame or pulling a lot of parts in order to have an access?
No one is talking about that right now. Let see what will happen when turbos start burning and owners end up paying thousands of dollars. I think that will be very detrimental.

From the date of the recall on the 22-23 model years if there is a paper trail within Toyota that the 24’s are technically part of it but we don’t want to include them because they are stacking up on dealer lots. I’d see the government getting involved on this and a big class action lawsuit potentially.
If I was buying a 24’ tomorrow I’d want the dealership to put in writing they will buy the truck back at my purchase price if it gets added to the recall. That will show ya what they really think internally about the 24 model year 😂

It just doesn't seem that they did full on-road testing if it's not the debris and it's in the bottom end. The thing is if any debris could get up in the heads up near the turbos you can't just replace the block and put the old parts back on. That's just asking for the engine to blow up again. They did hire 350 new people in the Alabama plant. Anything less than a new complete engine will devalue my vehicle

I purchased my Tundra SR5 the 2023 version by the end of 2022. I checked on the NHTSA (just inserted the VIN#) and I had bad luck, it is one of them being recalled. I put on it already 29500 miles and no issue so far. I am wondering if I dodged the bullet because when I got the Tundra after 1000 miles I changed the oil, and at the 5000 miles I changed again. Then I put a magnetic screw at the oil pen. At the 10000 miles interval I checked the screw and there weren't attached any machining debris to it. I am changing the oil every 5000 miles and do not see any debris being attached to the screw. I do not know if the machining debris causing the recall would be in the oil or not, if they would be I hope I flushed them out with the first two oil changes. Please, someone with knowledge of the issue give your opinion if it was possible for me to dodge the bullet with what I did, or the machining debris contamination would be somewhere else and would not find them in the oil. Tanks in an advance.

What if this is a design defect? I'm not impressed with the tear down on the engine girdle. Its not reinforced like Ford's 2.7 or GM's 2.7. IMO the main bearing is getting too hot causing it to rock causing camshaft failures. Even with large discounts who wants this headache? They cheaped out on this engine. Like the Tacoma its under built. The taco has a weak rear diff. They had to "de tune" the manual shift models because they did not feel it would handle hard shifting and dropping the right pedal etc.. Many MT failures now. And when towing loads the rear diff is overheating. All indicators that the truck is under built. Cheaper parts, cheaper labor, with bad designs along with bigger price. That would be a hard no. Toyota is doing the voluntary recall because they know if left to NHTSA they will probably order a stop sell across the board. Which IMO, is what needs to happen.

I believe its the block it self is not braced enough to handle the additional weight of the trucks and SUVS. They work fine in the cars and smaller SUVs cause they are designed originally for them. Ford had to add more material to the 2.7-3.5 turbo 6's for rigidity. The blocks are twisting under loads causing the crank bearings to shift and change the oiling holes locations. This will starve the bearings from getting adequate oil supply. The Ram 1500 hurricane 3.0 is having issues as well. Cost cutting is harming all vehicle manufacturers now for higher profits.

I’m dubious about the debris explanation vs design defect. I suspect Toyota is looking to their insurer to cover the majority of these warranty claims. Without knowing more, I’d surmise that if the flaw is a design defect (unreasonable strain on bearings that causes failure) as opposed to failing to clean out engine debris during assembly, the insurance policies could exclude the former. Let’s see additional information comes to light….

When I worked for toyota here in alberta.. if there was a safety recall on a vehicle that hadn't been sold, it was a stop sale.. until it was fixed... We had several units that were sold but we held them for up to 6 weeks while the recall was developed & the fix implemented..
From what I see, the recall is for 22-23 units... don't you think it's possible that they found the issue before the 24 was released & "cleared" the debris in the production line??
It is actual law that dealerships must fix recalls before selling a unit (used or new)
Keep in mind that toyota does more recalls cause they care about their customer base.. The old recall when unintended acceleration came about involved a gas pedal modification.. Did Pontiac recall the Vibe for that??? NOOO.. strange cause it had the exact same gas pedal in it. The real reason for those unintended accels was 99% of the time multiple floor mats that jammed up the gas pedal or brake pedal..
As for the bells & whistles... every manufacturer is doing it.. it's what the new drivers want... I wish they didn' t have it. As far as I'm concerned, toyota is slower to bring those bells & whistles to market.

Toyota has a long history of lying & denying there are problems until it is so widespread, it can no longer be denied. I had one of the bad V6 head gaskets back in the 1990's.
