  • Knock Sensor replacement Nissan Xterra
    Complete knock sensor repair from start to finish.
    Knock Sensor: amzn.to/2IFFiof and extension to relocate: amzn.to/2Lli1pf Less than 20$ on Amazon
    The car has a hard fault code P0325 Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction. After diagnostic was performed it was determined that the knock sensor would have to be replaced.
    Unforchanetly on this Nissan Xterra, the knock sensor is not acceptable unless the upper and lower intake manifolds are removed. Labor time to do this by the book is about 5 hrs. So not the easiest or the cheapest repair.
    There is an option to relocate the knock sensor to save money. I will tell you in my video the pros and cons of trying to relocate the knock sensor.
    The purpose of the knock sensor is to retard the timing to prevent cylinder detonation, in turn, preventing engine damage. The knock sensor works by sensing engine vibrations caused by cylinder detonation.

      Thank you for the video, very helpful! I had to do this job to replace some cheap no-brand someone put in before me. Since you're going through all this trouble - spend the extra money and get a quality one like a Nissan OEM or a HITACHI KNS0003 so you don't have to do it again.

      Good job. your saving money and learning many things that will help in the future. you will make mistakes, break connector clips, move your harness around till it looks like the picture you took at the beginning. When you are done you will say" well that wasn't that hard". I did it and now I think I can do it in an hour, because of what I learned. I would like to mention that I took a vacuum on the engine first to see if it was worth the sensor repair, and I had a steady 20 inches and went on with the job. Go for it. Let us know how it feels when you crank it up.

    Great tutorial. Professional mechanics always make it look easy but it is not. I just did this on my 04 X and it took me two days but now that I've done it once, Im confident that I could do it in less than 4 hours. Long needle nose pliers with a bent end are really helpful. Careful of the wire connectors as they are brittle. Take before pictures to help remember where everything goes.

    I wish I saw this video as I just finish replacing fuel injectors on my 99 Pathfinder with the same engine (288K miles). Did it on my spare time and took my time to complete in 3 months. Sometimes DIY is not cost saving as my hourly rate came out to less than a dollar an hour, but it was a good learning experience and my Path runs like new as it did when I drove out of the showroom 19 years ago. Thanks for the great video.

I relocated my knock sensor to the top of the manifold and it works good, but i know its not the correct way to do it. My vehicle has 360,000 miles and still runs good. If I ever decide to go this route, i will definitely be watching your video again. You can also replace the valve cover gasket’s while your already there. I would also replace any hoses , or vacuum lines while your there. It an insane about of alot of work to get in there.

    The problem is the wiring 9 out of 10 times , most signals on that car go back to the ecm in a shielded coax cable , the problem is the coax will actually rot all the way through the line , just had one I got rid of finally yesterday, chopped a section of the harness , and powderized wires the entire way through
    With an intermittent drop out
    Without removing the entire harness and removing the coax from all of the harness repairs may have come backs

      It needs to be on the engine block to work correctly. You can not move it to the intake and still have it do its job. The engine light will stay out but it will not be doing anything. That's just a workaround for people that don't have the means of pully the intake off.

    Hi will a ruptured fuel pressure regulator cause the p0300 and P0325 codes only or is my knock sensor bad and is causing my random cylinder miss fire P0300?? Thanks alot ps. New plugs wires distributor, injectors, and my battery is 420 CCA does it matter thanks again

      @venomx4093 Před 2 lety

      The knock sensor has nothing to do with a random misfire code. Bad distributor, blown head gasket. Are you losing coolant? You can easily test the resistance to your knock sensor at the harness on top of the engine that crosses over the upper rad hose/coolant tube. If memory serves me right, it is pin #8 on the harness. You'll need to find a wiring diagram. Once you locate the connector, it has 8 wires on it. The thickest wire is the knock sensor wire.

    Hey when you put back on the lower manifold and we’re tightening the bolts and screws should you use a torque wrench or just tighten them with the power tool just fine?

    does anyone know if a bad fuel sending unit have anything to do with the knock sensor code coming on

      Check the resistance to the knock sensor. The connector is simple to get to on top of the motor.

    Hello need your help please , what was the symptoms for this code p0328 ?? I have 2004 Xterra and I have only 1 code p0328 my car is not shifting gears at all like leterly nothing I can shift the shifter but it won't move at all the car run very nice though it has 70k miles only .
    My question is did you had the same symptoms in your case as I can see you had the same code as mine .
    Please let me know ASAP .thanks in advance

    • @venomx4093
      @venomx4093 Před 2 lety

      A knock sensor will not cause transmission issues regarding shifting. Ironically on this engine, the TPS sensor going bad will. It's likely your shift solenoids which are located inside the transmission pan and valve body. Not difficult to change out. Patience and time and take pictures of EVERYTHING you remove. It took me 7 hours to change mine out on a 01 frontier 3.3 with no transmission experience.

    Sorry for my lack of knowledge. But my 2002 Nissan Xterra started running rough afew months ago. Mostly when it was cold, then it would run fine... Now the check engine light is on and blinking. It chug alugs, has no power and shakes when accelorating... I purchased a code reader and it says (knock bank 1) So does this mean that i need a new knock sensor, or is there something else bad thats causing it to read knock sensor? Thats the only code that shows up.

    • @venomx4093
      @venomx4093 Před 2 lety

      Not really. Check the resistance to the knock sensor. The wiring harness is on top of the engine at the front of the engine. Search for the wiring diagram.

      Knock sensor shouldn't cause your rough issues. IAC, TPS sensor will. Clean your MAF sensor first as it's easy and cheap.

    Will a knock sensor cause engine stall when idling are rough idle? I h@ve 04 xterra and out of no where started stalling out once warmed up but only when idling; drives fine other than idling; Also did you replace lower intake manifold gasket during reassembly?

      Jason Edge funny enough mine started doing that AFTER the sensor was replaced. No clue what’s going on.

      IAC valve or TPS sensor will cause this issue.

      It about 5 hrs labor. So at a shop, your looking at about 600$ probably.

    • @venomx4093
      @venomx4093 Před 5 lety

      It depends on your area. In my area, shops charge anywhere from $60 an hour to $100 an hour shop rate. Firestone charges $100 an hour in my area. The small independant shops charge $60-65 an hour. I'm in Tennessee.
