Hey JC,
Don't waste anymore time acknowledging haters. Keep enjoying life, traveling and producing content/knowledge we enjoy!
Although I do kind of enjoy him chuckling under his breath at how stupid they all are. Even a minute or so in he's still kind of has that chuckle under his breath...
JC, love your videos. I have lived in Mexico for the last seven years. I have live in Durango, Durango for over 5 years. I have also lived in South Texas and the mountains of Colombia. I live in the zona centro of Durango and I do not have a car. I rent a 3 bedroom townhouse on a privada within easy walking distance of the historical center of the city. I do not own a car but this place is so convenient, I do not need one. My rent is about $260 a month and at our altitude I do not need A/C or central heat. This city was established over 400 years ago and the streets are narrow and most are unidirectional in the city center. Buses are frequent and inexpensive and cab fares are economical. I have many friends here and none are English speakers. The only American I ever met here was the owner of a mezcalaria. I never saw him again. I am 73 and I live alone. We get a lot of tourists here, and with few exceptions, they are all Mexicans. I quit smoking over 15 years ago and I no longer drink any form of alcohol.
I have no health insurance and if I need care, I just go to a private hospital or clinic. My only income is Social Security, but it is more than adequate for my support. If I want to go to the beach for a few days, it is a 4 hour bus ride to Mazatlan. I have friends that drive when I want to visit attractions outside the city.
Que usted y su esposa compartan las bendiciones de Nuestro Señor durante esta Semana Santa.
Mazatlán, the pearl of the Pacífic
Sounds awesome! I'm very happy for you! 🙂
I’m sorry that anyone would be critical of all the work you’re doing. Just to remember that for each of them, there are probably hundreds that don’t say anything but love your videos.
Spot-on Gretta !
ANYONE WHO THINKS MEXICO IS BETTER THAN THE UNITED STATES YOU ARE AN IDIOT...
Living in Canada the cost of food ,utilities , taxes are rising seemingly daily . I"m certain $ 4000.00 per month would barely house and feed a retired couple if they owned a car and maintained it and their home . Time to turn off the TV and learn some Spanish and give away the snow shovel , Thanks for the great Info from Canada Stay well .
As a Canadian myself, I wholeheartedly agree.
Crappy Indianapolis has double rent in 3 yrs. Horrible murderous place . 7ppl shot dead in 48 hours.
😂😂
Oh my. I live in California, I'm not from Mexico, but I speak Spanish, I'm still a couple of decades away from retirement. It's very sad how first world countries treat their elderly.
I think this is great information and I am sure you live a much more happier life there. I mean Mexicans are among the happiest people in the world! It is true and Americans can learn a few things from happy Mexicans like being more humble, laugh more, spend less time alone, and to stop glorifying being busy all the time. Thank you for this information!
"" stop glorifying being busy all the time"" Wise words Nely. :)
Nely,I think your right about your comment, most of us Mexicans all we need is food on the table , and where absolutely happy , we are a family oriented culture
You hit the point ;)
Its always a better place to live. And that place is 🇲🇽!!!!. For sure!
Nely Buenas Dias Amiga! From my experience the people of the Phillipines are also very happy Culture. Also, there is definitely more poverty in that country. But it does not matter. They are still happy people.
Gracias
My wife and I will be selling our home in less than three years, and moving to Mexico. We are low income folks, and want to keep expenses below two thousand dollars a month. Right now we put out about three thousand dollars a month. Life is an adventure; I sometimes go as long as a month without making any money.
I'm in my early 60's and the wife is in her late 50's. Thank you for the very helpful information. We are planning to move to guanajuato city in about two years. I like the higher elevation and lower population density. We will both be living on social security and I'll also get a small amount of V.A. disability, so the cost of living in Mexico will allow us to stretch our income and actually save some money every month. Las Vegas, Nevada is getting way to expensive.
Good plan. :)
Shar Hune the city of love
I'm Mexican American and I only been to Mexico 3 times and seen the difference from the US and Mexico on living wise and my dream is to save up and move to Mexico 😀😀😀
Good plan. Follow your dream. :)
Buenos Dias Amiga! Que Bueno Amiga Que Tu Meta Sea Vivir En Mexico.
Buena Suerte.
Not just your plan. It's all you people's plan. Thing is , y'all never get see that plan because you easily get distracted from it. You come, you want and when you get , you want more. You spend whatever time you get here trying to keep up with the Joneses and before you know it , your full of kids you can't afford, you work two jobs just to support the family , now you need a new car, new clothes a laptop, the latest phone you HAVE to go out and have expensive fun because " I work hard so I deserve it" , then the kids need a vacation to Disney, " I can't afford it, but I work hard and so we deserve it". Then come the health issues, the school issues , the divorce issues , the child support issues, the car registration, insurance , maintenance, car payments, rent, utilities etc, etc, REALITY. Then , all those plans of making just enough to go back HOME to are just a big joke. And in being so busy with all those plans you forget to work on your citizenship ( which you should've done before you came into the country illegally 🤔🤔🤔) and immigration comes a knocking, you get deported and your master plan is just a memory. Because now you're tired , old and broke. Moral of the story? No country can make or break you. That Mexican millionaire never stepped a foot into the US before he made himself a millionaire, so STOP IT. I've got a bridge in Brooklyn 😉😉😉
Me too!! I am 18 and plan to move there for life soon!!!!
Thanks for another great video, Jerry. The results of your research are very informative. Thanks for making the effort and taking the necessary time to do it right.
I always loved Mexico since I was a kid and heard all the stories from my parent's friends who either owned homes in Mex and Cali or just plain retired down in Baja/Mexico. My plan was always to move to Mexico and especially to retire there. Lots of friends spent time in Hawaii but I never thought that made any sense because Mexico was so awesome, still had lots of wild places to explore and was extremely affordable...especially for camping. Plus, the Hawaiian people kind of have a poor opinion of the haoles (round eyes) who come to visit...I didn't get that in Mexico. Still never have been to Hawaii. I am saving for the big move to Mex!
Hawaii is nice. But the cost of housing is similar to the SF Bay area plus the higher cost of food.
Thanks Jerry, this is a great video. Full of all the information we wanted to hear. Been watching you for a while and really appreciate your presentation. You come across as such a REAL person. Look forward to more.
Your videos are more to the point and helpful than many of the ones I’ve seen. I’ve seen several and will certainly view several more. I thank you for good information as I contemplate my retirement next year.
I love how genuine and truthful you’re about the differences between Mexico and the U.S. I don’t see how others don’t like these videos. Remember there’s way more people that like these kind of videos than those few that don’t.
Really enjoying these posts. Thank you.
First, I LOVED the rant against your naysayers! Anyone who has watched your channel for an extended period knows where you're coming from and what you're all about. Folks who check in and judge you are off the mark and would really owe you an apology if they bothered to understand your background. Second, this post (like those previous in the same vein) really gives us great information that we can use as it relates to our individual circumstances. I am a bit under 10 years from retirement and live in San Diego. I love Mexico, and while through sound planning I can afford to retire here in San Diego with no problem, your posts call me south more and more. Thank you Jerry, for opening my horizons.
Hola. JC. Thank you for your information on Mexico you are a pleasant man. Love your videos. And love the things you say. Every time I’m taking my lunch at work. Im always looking at your videos. I live in Las Vegas Nevada. And from here I send you a big hug. Thanks again.
Great info JC! Thank you for sharing it
Great video - planning on getting down there hopefully soon! Love Mexico - the people are awesome always laughing and the culture is great! I’ll keep watching you! Thanks!
Thank you, this has been very informative. I like that you compared several areas.
This is an excellent video, thank you for your attention to detail.
Great job. That took a lot of work and it is much appreciated.
There is an old saying “ The best price isn’t always the Best deal”, however, the climate, the people and the old time atmosphere would make it a deal changer.

Nice one! I'm finally ready.
Your videos are new to me. I’m impressed. Research and real numbers.
The video is awesome. Thank you so much for this information.
Thank you for taking time to research all of these prices for us...
I’m retired in The USA on social security and survive by shopping wisely and choosing a low cost area, to pay off a basic small house. Utility’s ,house tax , and insurance squeezed us out of California where I grew up, even in our family home of 40 years, with no mortgage or rent. Gradually the same raising utility’s, property taxes, and costs of living, are squeezing retirees out many areas of the USA.
I have another sense of retirement In Mexico after traveling in Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Thailand. It’s ever so nice to be surrounded by friendly, less financially, judge mental people who value and generally respect “older people “who often need to live frugally in retirement. In most of the western USA where I have lived. Our culture caters to more affluent usually younger, wage earners, not the older less affluent retirees. Outside of the USA, is people seem to value time enjoying their family much more. Rather than working extra hours to buy newer expensive “stuff”. We have been brainwashed by advertising in the USA to think we need the latest and best, even if it means less time with family and friends.
You have lived well and found wisdom. :)
JC Travel Stories thank you. We are part of a wonderful group of thrifty retirees who live below our income, educate our selves on utube to realize we have options. I appreciate u, along with Bob Wells, and Cindy at retire in Mexico.
Growing up 60 years ago. My grandparents lived well in our family home, affording to be retired in California. They said “stay out of trouble, save for the future, only buy what you can pay cash for. But they did not say... better learn to speak Spanish....so u might retire in a more affordable country.
it is good to learn Spanish, but in the area of chapala, it is not very necessary, because what is ajijic, chapala, are proclaimed biligues peoples and soon jocotepec,, in the city of guadalajara, which is where I live and was born, I seen a lot of influx of foreigners, as well as Americans, European Canadians, people from India and Asia, with which you know many basic words of Spanish is more than enough
A quote from just last month by the Colorado Springs Council president pro tem:
“As the mayor has said many times now, and I will just speak his words, it is important for this city to add 3,000 to 4,000 35-year-olds every year for the next who knows how many years, because we need them to be our workforce - to take our tech jobs, to take those software designer jobs,” Gaebler said. “The mayor will actually go further and say, ‘I don’t care if one more 65-or-older person moves to this city, but I need those 3,000 to 4,000 ... ‘”

She has since apologized. Still...
Indiana has the same way, I feel as old people are being pushed out. I have the double whammy at being disabled. People don't realize that I paid taxes 30 years or something. 20% of everything I made with no deductions for children. My mother and my father neither one looked a long enough wife to draw on any of their social security and both of them we're millionaires. My dad got audited before he died and I had to drop out of school. I never got back into school and then my mom passed. I inherited a little bit of money made my own way. I had this false sense of security since I had a bunch of money in mutual funds in bank accounts and it didn't last. One big broken neck and all that's gone in a heartbeat. I had insurance that cost me $500 a month for 18 years or something. My grandparents were also very wealthy and at one point it pops was paying 80% of everything he made. I don't feel like my family hasn't contributed... they just counted the last 5 years of course yeah, I was pretty much bedridden by then. I'd never even heard of Social Security. I didn't know you couldn't go to jail for not paying your bills. I was so naive.
Thank you JC! My wife and I are going to go on a vacation and check out the Lake Chapala area. Your videos have been an inspiration for us to travel there and visit some real estate agencies to see what is available. We are retired and want to find a better place to live. Thank you again!
Awesome videos! I was born in Guadalajara and raised in Los Ángeles since I was 2, and am thinking of going back to live to Guadalajara. I can afford to live in California but life in Guadalajara is awesome. Thanks for your great videos and enjoy the great ajijic weather!
Love the shirt. That big yellow flower sculpture in the great room. You nailed it at the very end. Another great show. Thank you sir.

I really enjoy your videos and have gotten a lot out of them. I plan on making my way down there on a tourist visa and live out of my vehicle boondocking while there. Personally I will be embracing a Nomad lifestyle beginning in May. Thank you.
Awesome! You should document it on CZcams!
I plan to do the same thing Loretta except that I will be traveling to more places than just Mexico. Good luck on your travels. I hope you find how great that lifestyle is for so many people.
I can't afford to live in usa anymore. I don't live beyond my means at all. So glad to see what other people are doing

We as Americans are being slowly enslaved. So slowly most don’t even see it. The government is keeping the masses drunk, drugged, and dumb. Oh and let’s not forget the entertainment (sports) that many waste their lives as well as their children’s lives following and playing.
@@chrisj197438 yes, absolutely correct. But it seems to be getting far worse much faster now doesn't it? All the systems built on lies, greed and corruption are failing faster. These systems own greed will be their own demise.
I love your videos! I hope to move there in the VERY near future! By the way, I have the same keyboard, and I'm planning to bring it...and my guitar....and my art supplies!
I'm so sorry that people would even say such rude things!!!! I'm so appreciative that you share so much of you're life and information as i'm very interested in possibly moving there one day
Hello beautiful how are you doing, hope you are doing well with your family?
I’m from Mexico, I live with my husband and my chihuahua in our car in San Francisco, lol!
my husband is from Minnesota, and I am really trying to convince him to come with me to Mexico ASAP!! I don’t want to be living in that situation trying to success in “USA” I prefer to be happy in Mexico, having a happier life, and with more opportunities than in USA actually, in Mexico I always was able to have a home...
Get out of SF! Just go...take your dog...let hubby follow and if he does not- then he is an idiot and you are better off without him... I am a Bay Area native and lived here all my life..have never been really secure financially due to high cost of living here..am looking forward to retiring so I can live elsewhere like Mexico or Portugal and get out of this grind...Im 58 now and have been stressing about growing older and how I could ever afford to retire.
Thank you to the gentleman who made this video and much luck to you, my dear...but get out of SF...i can remember SF when it was a great city to visit...but even that has changed.
Yeah in Mexico you can rent a house for like about 80 or 90 dollars a month
wow 😲 that’s is good for rent my brother wants to go school México and and he is looking for student visa
Charly Arango Do you. Live in 🇲🇽 ??
I hope he's either come to his senses or you already left him, you don't deserve this abusive situation.
Thanks for the great information!
Keep them coming! these good videos..
Thanks for this. Your home is gorgeous btw. I love almost everything about my home country of Canada except winter. Now that I am a senior, just can't take the cold anymore. You've got me thinking....
I grew up where snow banks literally buried the house and 30 below was NOT just the wind chill. I then lived a great many of my years in the Pacific NW under grey rainy skyies. Opt for sunshine. :)

Hi JC. your so precise in your video's, thank you. The price difference is an extra blessing to Mexico! It kinda seems we've been misled, a lot. Thank you so much for your video's :)
Hi JC. On June 1st I'll be staying in Chapala for one month to get my teeth fixed and see how it is to live there. I want to thank you for your lovely videos and candor. You've explained a lot that I didn't know about before.
Just found your channel recently and have thoroughly enjoyed all the posts I've watched so far. So very informative for me as I sit here in a cold Canadian province! :-) I am a 70 year old retired woman with a smallish pension, but with enough to apply for temporary or permanent status, who's seriously thinking about moving to Mexico. I am going to go back and watch all your posts to get a better idea and feel if a move to Mexico would be right for me. Thank you for your content as I know it's going to influence my decision. I don't think I can take one more Canadian winter!
Here's my recommendation. Don't sit in Canada looking at CZcams videos until you make up your mind. Take a short vacation trip to see how it feels down here for you. Its not for everyone. :)
@@JCTravelStoriesThank you for taking the time to reply. That's very good advice.

Good idea. There are many places. :)
Really enjoyed this video !
Thanks! :)
Just wanted to say I really appreciate your videos…big thank you
I watched other cost of living in Mexico videos, but JC cut to the chase by using national statistics. Roughly speaking, Mexico is 50% cheaper in general and more so in healthcare. Medical cost in the US has totally gotten out of control a long time ago.
I love your videos and watching them all the time.l borne in mexico but move to texas 50 years a go ..hope you have a great life and keep up the good videos
Laying in bed and thinking of ways to save for my retirement in Mexico when I got an alert of your video. Thanks for sharing all the facts and more with us! Have a great day.
Wake up! Time to rise and shine .... right after you finish my video. :)
I like your sense of Humor, life in Mexico
Is "Stress Free"
I can relate to your situation sometimes we start out in life with only hoping for the best things in life and sometimes life throws us a curve into a spiral nose dive I have been there and done that I love your videos and thanks for sharing!!
Inflation here in the US is out of control.
And only going to get worse. Quality of life is bad now at days.
My mom recently purchase a 5k square ft home out there, and my close friend just bought beach front property for 30k in mazatlan. Everytime i go out there it seems like Saturday everyday, people are much more relax.
This is my first time watching your video. My step-mother and father live in Ajijic. My step-mother took my dad down there because it was less expensive to get him the nursing care he now needs due to dementia. I've been down once, last May, and I loved it. I lived in Guatemala most of my childhood because my dad worked for the State Department. So when I went to Ajijic for the first time it felt like I had gone home: the colors, the markets, the buildings, the fresh and brilliant produce, the cobble stone streets, the weather... It all reminded me of...Home. I can really hear the appeal when you speak of living each day for its own sake, without the pressures we put on ourselves stateside. ¡Viva México!
You made a great move , and I've been to Mexico and find the poeple there very friendly always say hi to you.
You have a wonderful personality......Jerry Brown travels covers alot of this for those interested.
Love your videos.
I visited Guadalajara and got a chance to travel with my husband, who was born and raised until early childhood in MX. We loved it. We drove everywhere. We are also thinking to do part time in MX and part time in USA when we retire. I can not wait to this chapter of our lives. I am so proud of you to see the beauty of MX.

Great video . I love Mexico as well . One day I’m thinking to retire in Mexico also . I still have a long way to go to retire . But meanwhile I’m traveling to Mexico a lot and I just love it over there.
Thanks for the info!
I believe that Mexico is more than a cheap country. is to live an incredible experience of freedom. Especially. when people have lived a controlled life
I see many foreigners. They arrive in Mexico. amazed to know new flavors of fruits and foods. that they had never tasted in their life. like guavas, guanabana, zapotes, Nance, jobo, which are incredible fruits, but which are eaten regularly anywhere in Mexico. even. bananas of different colors and flavors. But also artistic works, which are made by street artists. than in first world cities. They are sold in thousands of dollars. In Mexico they are manufactured in any corner! For a dozen dollars! If someone has visited a Market in the city. You will find genuine leather zaptos. and they will put your name or message. as a test. that there is not a machine. But if many hours of work!
I just stumbled upon your channel and of course, I had to subscribe. You seem to be a well informed, intelligent guy AND interesting to listen to as well.
I'm always disappointed to hear when people leave rude comments for no apparent reason. I suppose there are just mean spirited haters everywhere!! So I'm sending positive vibes and nothing but praise your way 😁
GREAT discussion on Mexico !!
I appreciate you sharing this information and I actually learned a few new things. Take care and keep the videos coming!!!!
Welcome Susan. :)
Hehe love how you respond to various nature of comments. It's an interesting world. But that's it - cost of living is what we have available to spend. And spending to saving depends on whether we're out to please ourselves or concerned about impressing others. You got a cool thing going there. We really should visit Mexico at the earliest opportunity and check it out. One big advantage is we can motor from here to there and do one border crossing. Assuming it's still open or has reopened by the time we go. Looks like some great people and a lot of enchantment.
Que Dios les acompañe!
This was the second video I saw of yours, and I've decided you're my new internet grandpa.

Yes, thanks for the information. Just FYI, my area (Washington DC Metro area), the prices are all quite a bit higher than he mentions. Which is why we have a home in Mexico, as well. Thank goodness.
I Love Mexico. My father was Italian so I have that Latin In me. Getting to the QUALITY of living; I always questioned this. The water seems iffy. The food, ehh, okay. Of course food is cheaper. And in restaurants it's delicious, and cheaper. But what you get at Walmart may not seem to be that good. Mexican grocery stores have a lot of prepackaged food, with a lot of sugar and artificial ingredients. Except if you are in the vegetables section.
Wikipedia says Lake Chapala is polluted. Financially, I'm okay. I just bought a condo in Cabo and besides renting it, yes I would live in it. And I would live in Mexico part-time, because it's cheaper and better value and better weather. We'll see, maybe full time. DO whatever makes you HAPPY!
I like your videos sr. Keep up the good work, and now I like them more since you have been at my back yard "San Blas"

I am so happy to hear someone talking about Mexico so nice. I am from Mexico and all i hear from the news are the bad things that Mexico has. Your information is si important
Yes, but it is all part of a strategy to keep american citizens thinking the US is the best place to be, and it was 25 years ago.
The US is just as bad and all you here in Mexico is the bad news about the US shooting sprees, ppl getting robbed ect...
