Wow! Seemed like paradise compared to the home my grandmother was in, in NE PA! And the cost!!!??? You just can’t get any better than that, for what you get....I imagine it’s NOT a place for critical care.....but....heck! I especially liked the interview with one of the tenants! She seemed VERY happy! That makes me feel happy! And to think you can bring your pet! Now THATS half the battle won right there! America should feel ashamed at how they treat our elderly!
I use to work for a senior living place for 7 years , and I agree with your comment , when the person doing the sales, on her tour to the future resident, he/she would tell them how wonderful it was there , as soon as they sign the contract there were on there own , and never mind how expensive it was ,
Mexican people, and probably certainly caregivers are by nature, kinder, more patient, and more respectful of older people. I hate to stereo-type but anyone who has spent time here knows it's true. Looks like a wonderful place to be cared for. Great interview!

Thanks for the tour. I'm envious. Unfortunately America's nursing homes are designed to take the last remaining savings an individual has. It's not about helping, it's about profit in the US. Another plus for Mexico.
I'm not against profits. I am disgusted by excess profits resulting in the richest country in the world creating a culture that simply warehouses their elderly draining not only their resources, but often their faimily's finances as well.
Duene I totally agree with you , I was a maintenance tech for 7 years for a senior living place , in Northern California, and I got fired for speaking up, I got into it with the ED many times , because all the bullshit that was going on
Every time a doctor sticks his head in the door to say “hi”, he bills Medicare. I Remember how warm and fuzzy the administration was at the nursing home my father in law was in. The day before his Medicare ran out we were told to “get him out”.
@@calbob750 I have a son who is a doctor. He would wish health care would be to help people and he is not going to use his medical license to get rich. There is the hope that good outlasts profit. Enough money will get you by. Nobody likes a pig.

Wow, what a gorgeous property. And I was blown away by the price. My grandmother was in a nursing home and she received wonderful care, but it was thousands upon thousands of dollars a month, and the rooms were so much less homey and personal feeling. Just wow. It makes me happy to know there are places like this out there.
I’m a nurse for over 35 years . I am learning to speak the Mexican language so that I can live and work in Mexico 🇲🇽 Your Home is Beautiful ! I know that the residents are very happy living there.

$1,500 month for total skills care!?. My mother just passed this past week. She was staying in group home for Alzheimers and skilled nursing,
in San Luis Obispo. We were paying $4,800 a month. God you bless you Tom !
My mother needs full care and it costs $10K a month for that and is a nicer facility in San Diego but not as nice or as much personal options and care as this place. I hope I don't need a care facility when I get older (guarding my health) but I'd sure rather be in Mexico in one than in the states!
What a great place. People here can only dream of this. $1200 a month, wow. $1200 a week in London and many other parts of the UK, basic.

don't know how to make this private but oh well..contacting realtors to look for a place for me to rent long term for next year..in touch with a woman, i think, and it's called Eden of Ajijic .. curious if you know anything about this company..checked it out and the site hasn't been active for a few years..she says they only do long term rentals...just being careful J.C...any thoughts on this... ?
Seems a much better experience than my mom had here in the states. They stole her money at a horrible pace.

@@calbob750 not sure what you mean. The cost of nursing homes in USA is insane. The only people who can afford them are rock stars and professional athletes. Ordinary people are drained in a matter of months or couple of years. My mom thought 120k was a BIG Safety net. THEY STEAL IT QUICKLY. One year.
jaim haas what I meant to say is based on a conversation I had with a doctor who sees Medicare patients. When a doctor is at a nursing home if he is unethical he will bill Medicare just by looking in the room and saying hello. He will bill Medicare for a patient assessment. Multiply this by 20 patients a day. I’m thinking this is unethical. It also adds to the patients bill. I had a relative who had the same experience. The nursing home makes you feel good until your Medicare coverage ends and then they are eager to push the patient out the door. At many US nursing homes it’s all about the money and not patient care.
Thank you for the wonderful tour of a beautiful home. The Beautiful Lady you interviewed was very appreciative to be there which speaks volumes. The man who honored his wife by building this wonderful home is a Saint and you are the brother I wish I could have had.
I wish my daddy could have gone there it would have been so much better...Santa Monica California care was 7k a month and you had to buy all the furniture for the room!

I agree. That was a wonderful video. I'm 73 and - knock on wood- in good health but sooner or later I will have need of a nursing home and in New York City they cost a minimum of $5,000 month and can't compare to the one in Mexico: next to a clinic, with a swimming pool, view, airy open layout, nice private rooms, affordable prices.
I always wondered about nursing homes outside the USA for foreigners and saw a video of one in San Miguel that looked interesting. This tour was really a great service. You deserve a million subscribers and there are 70 million baby boomers who would agree. Look forward to more of the same content.
@@jonathansarno6586 We're 40 miles north of NYC and my dad was 72 when he had bypass surgery in Yale, New Haven, CT. That gave him a stroke which left him an invalid almost 20 years ago. He had been active and happy before that. The nursing home he wound up in was charging $7200 a month which didn't include haircuts, nail clipping etc. He had his own room until they picked him clean of his last dollar, house, everything.Then moved him to a double room. He lasted 10 years before passing with an amputated leg (developed diabetes). This place was cleaner than others that he had to stay at short term. $5000 a month is a steal. When was the last time you checked the price? I've been to San Miguel in Cozumel at the only water front hotel 3 years ago on a dive vacation and it was infested with ants the 2nd night up on the 3rd floor. Had to request wash cloth's and a bath mat. The place looked nice from the outside but left much to be desired otherwise. Didn't visit nursing or long stay facilities though. Doubt if they would be nicer than the showcase Hotel!
Wow. Beautiful facility. Thanks for giving me lots to think about. A lot more afforable than here. My mom was in assisted living here in CA before she died 4 years ago. She was in a wheelchair but got herself around fine, had no memory issues, and was able to dress and mostly care for herself but she liked to have someone stand by when she showered for safety reasons. Her meals, laundry and housecleaning was provided. $7500/month for this "level 1" care. My parents had separated years before and my dad was still working out of state and paying for my mom's living was financially very very difficult for him. My house has lots of stairs so living with us wasn't an option, plus she wanted her own place. My dad is now 81 and pretty active with his German language seniors (he spoke German only til age 5) group and his closest child is 800 miles away. He has pretty bad arthritis so one day soon he might need to think about a warmer climate than Chicago. He would enjoy learning Spanish (oh boy does he love to talk!), not having to deal with "staff" he has hired to do the cleaning, yard work and snow shoveling he can't do well any more, and tasty Mexican food he loves. He stays in his house only because he owns it so its cheap. CA near me is too expensive, Omaha where my sister lives has bad weather too. It's nice to know that Ajijic has an option when people need more care and they wouldn't have to leave Mexico and go bankrupt quickly back in the states while paying for care. Thank you Jerry.
I noticed they had s man in wheelchair there and tom said that was reason for elevator. .pool for him to walk in and physical therapy.
I'm only 40 and I want this NOW haha. I'd love to have everything taken care of for me and I only need to pay rent.
You and me both. I can't imagine handling all the bills and maintenance I do now at 55 when I am 65.
Yes, the world needs thousands just like this. Tom has done a first class job. It’s really lovely.
It breaks my heart. when I see the old people. On the one hand. It gives me a lot of joy that they have come to live. until the age they have. But on the other hand. It gives me a lot of anger. when I see the countries and their relatives. they do not give them all those cares that now require.
That good. who have chosen Mexico. to come to live his last years. with joy, peace and love. That is something. that Mexico has too much! In Mexico. they celebrate death. Nobody has to be sad in Mexico. Here. they are all family Without Borders!

My Dad had to pay $6000 a month for what I will charitably call "indifferent care" at an assisted living facility in California. There were non-stop renovations constantly going on. He had to move three times to different apartments. There were three elevators but always one and sometimes two were out of operation. This Anastasia Nursing Home looks smaller and more intimate.
Excellent topic, Jerry. Good job! On a related topic, I have a funeral service plan here in Mexico in which I pay $1,000 pesos/month (US$ 52/mo) for a total of $40,000 pesos (around US$ 2,105) and it includes casket and/or cremation/mass/facility for the wake. First quality all around. It also gives me the option of naming two persons of my selection in case one of them dies before I do, then this plan can be applied to whoever croaks first.

I wish my mother could have been in a place like this that did not look like a hospital, it's a long and sad story about her so I won't talk about it. If only things would change and the people would learn to make surroundings more cheerful like they do in Mexico's home care facility's. I don't feel they get it, but maybe they just don't care. Thank you for the tour and visit, it was very nice.

My Mom was in 1 rehabilitation and 2 nursing homes in all over 9 years with Alzeimers in the States .What a lovely place this man has built in honor of his wife . They allows pets ! What a nice cozy home for the cost not that clinical feel . Thanks for the tour .
Great video. Peaceful and serene place Tom has created. Its very clear, this home was created from love and continues in that manor. I am a healthcare professional in the US and recognize quality living. This place is how it should be everywhere! Sincerely.

That was very nice for the price. In the US it is crazy prices.
Crazy prices and neglectful care; sometimes outright abusive. I was driving Rideshare for awhile, and one of my passengers was an attorney specializing in representing victims in the USA of such bad care in nursing homes. She told me horror stories during the ride. She was so busy, too, shuttling around (she was a pickup at the airport) trying to stay on top of her cases. . .
This world needs thousands more Toms and Casa Anastasias and dedicated professionals. Thank you for this video.

There are other places available in the area. I asked Tom about a waiting list. Nope. And the two new rooms are not yet taken, either. :)

My Grandma turned 100 on 9/11/2018 and she’s
blind.
She had been living in her own home until then but
we finally had to put her into a nursing home...
I hate to say it but our family is paying $10,000 per
Month for her to live there...!
We have had several issues with her not receiving the
type of care that we believe she should have.
One example is all of the staff has been asked to please
introduce themselves to her as they enter the room since
she can not see them.
There have been several times when she can hear that someone
has entered her room and she will ask who is there and they
refuse to answer her then they leave...
I can not tell you how much I wish we could have her down there...!

I can relate...the issues will only get worse. These places are all set up to glean as much as they can and put in as little effort as possible. They are criminal for the most part. Even the charge ahead of time for shower assistance or medication help....so many times they would charge us and nobody shows up. Horrible.
Up here in my part of Canada we are blessed. My Dad just passed but for approx. the last five years of his life he lived in a nice nursing home with 24/7 medical care and meals included for approx. $1,150 U.S.D. per month. Another reason our taxes are so high up here in Canada I guess. However, it is nice to see that for $1,500 or a bit more, the same is available in Mexico. The majority of expat pensioners could afford such a place in Mexico, good to know for when I get to that stage of life.
Wow! Here in BC (Canada) you are looking at $2000 to 2500/mo, Unless you are low income, then its subsidized. You can only get subsidy if you exhaust all savings and resources first. So I guess its $1750 -$1850 USD for most people that have savings or own a home. Maybe where you live there is a provincial subsidy?

Absolutely. With the aging Baby Boomers, this is a gold mine waiting. Seems like Mexico has the culture in place of respect for the elders that would allow for upscaling of this type service and care that wouldn't deteriorate with larger numbers of patients/residents.

I believe you’ve given a gift to the folks who watch your videos. In the US the average assisted living stay is 29 months. 59% of assisted living people move on to a skilled nursing facility. The average skilled nursing facility stay is 835 days. At $220 a day that’s $183,700.
Based on the experience of a family member, once Medicare coverage ends the nursing home is ready to push the resident out the door (literally)unless funding from other sources becomes available.
It seems that in Mexico the average expat could meet the costs of assisted living and nursing home stays without going into bankruptcy.
What a blessing.
Very sobering numbers there, Cal. And the worst case comes after those numbers .... what happens AFTER bankruptcy? A shopping cart in the alley? Suicide? It happens. Thanks for the info. :)
Based on my understanding after bankruptcy (house and assets sold, cash depleted) then comes Medicaid.
It is criminal. I figured out why they set this up in such a fashion here in USA. They try to get your loved ones into the "skilled" nursing as fast as possible so they can jack up the cost. Sickening to see how they maneuvered my parents into this Venus Fly trap. They could never escape until I took mom out asap. They had already milked her dry by then.

Thanks for covering an aspect of life the retirees should be mindful of but typically left "untouched." Considering your skills (that includes age) and resources, you are in a unique position to educate us all. You can save many from "warehousing"!
It really does make sense for so many Americans to examine their options for living out their twilight years in comfort that's healthy and affordable. I think the culture in Mexico as well as many Asian countries place a healthy emphasis on respect and care for the elderly (more so than our country). My guess is that the locals (nurses/maids/orderlies) who do most of the work for these people are quite empathetic to their residents and patients.
Don't wait until your last chapter to embrace Mexico

This video is amazing...I had 2 parents in a nursing homes 15 years ago...they were spending 12 to 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH EACH...it is now 15 to 17 thousand a month and the care is horrible...borderline neglect....I am so impressed to see how another country cares for its elderly...let me tell you your video's have totally changed my mind on living in Mexico....thank you...
The care in Mexico in nursing homes or assisted living is far above US elderly care from what I have seen on tours of facilities in Mexico. Also, it is much cheaper. The Mexican people have a culture of having great respect for the elderly. It comes from their upbringing. I wish I could convince my husband to consider Mexico for retirement. We moved to Florida and we are not happy with the quality of life in Palm Coast, FL. Thanks JC for highlighting another great elder care facility in Mexico. You should do more of these just to show this is common elder care in Mexico.

Very nice care home...Colors were very cheerful and I liked that it was clean looking..Price is much more reasonable then here in the states...2 bedroom here in Sebring is 2,600..

Being an emigrant my life paths have been often difficult, maybe because of my choices, but it doeasn’t mean I regret them. Thank you for this video it puts me greatly at ease to know this is available. What a compassionate and caring owmer to have established this facility.
I would like the followup interview with the nurse and to see what social activities are offerred and services available (p/t, dementia care, water exercise...?) No air conditioning? Love that they allow pets. So important for our seniors not to be seperated from their best companions.
Please highlight other places like this. Does Mexican insurance ( govt or private) cover any portion of this?
Air conditioning is not necessary here, nor is central heat. Its one of the best climates in the world. 75 F degrees almost every day, and a cool breeze off the lake even on hotter days. The care available at these places in Mexico is whatever is needed. Tom's place would be very aware of the needs of patients with dementia because he built the place for his departed wife. Ana, who had Alzheimers. Thus Casa Ana stasia. I'm not aware of any Mexican insurance that covers the cost of these places. :)
Meet the nurses. They are the ones who make the care happen, and make sure you like them. The rest of the staff respond/ take direction to/ from the nurse....its a huge dynamic within a system like this.
Julie C In my family there are many doctors and nurses. It's a pride for me. See them work in Mexico. especially. that I have an infallible system. to verify. the level of humanity they have. First. I've seen them work for more than 24 hours, they give home service. and with so much work. some still do not buy a car! That talks about how important money is to them!
