- Well this is an unusual video for Tom Nelson, but perhaps not that unusual. Their are more crazy and wonderful projects at NRE than you will see anywhere. How does a 1100 HP engine sound with Mufflers? There is also the matter of this engine's unusual design. Take a look!

Will cash out my 401k one day and hand it to you. Your work is amazing
Missed these dyno video's 😎😎
It's awesome to see you making videos again. 🍻
Could you please make a series of building a motor from start to finish? I think it would be extremely interesting on how you guys make these animals!
I don't know which I enjoy more, the motors on the dyno, or Tom's commentary. Either way, NRE is on the cutting edge, and the unique parts they offer are incredible. Good s***, guys.
Good to see y’all posting again. I remember when I first saw your stuff when 1000 + horsepower was unheard of, unlike today
Finally a new video.
The Boss is making a video!! Who's hammering? Stop the hammering!! Heads are gonna roll....!!!
Really enjoy the quality of the craftsmanship and time you guys put into the “little things” on your builds. Always impressive. Good on ya boys.
Thanks for the video Tom
Thank you for the video and leaving comments up so we can thank you for doing this
One of my favorite things to watch! Thank you
Great to see a new vid! Thanks dude, you have been missed!
Good to see some videos from ya.. thank you
Glad your back
ICON from Jonathan Ward spying in your shop!!!
Awesome Tom.
Guess who's baaaaack! Good to see some new vids bro!
That intake design is awesome!!
Me Nelson giving the obvious craftsmanship, complexity and attention to detail that your engines demonstrate, one cannot get past the notion of what it must cost for one of YOUR monsters... Will you oblige us?
Loving this set up. Great power at low boost awesome awesome
I missed these dyno videos also! Love your content, so much passion at NRE.
Very nice! I love your videos!
Another beauty, great build.
Miss your videos!!
Need to install some Acoustic Foam in your Dyno Room for them metal guys haha
Love the video
Love it!
In the name of science... what mufflers are those?
Nice! I like the new dyno room. What are those two pipes at the back of the room for? Do you plan to route engine exhausts into them or something?
nice daily driver motor ,.i dig it
That's a nice powerful, quiet engine to run from the cops with, they won't hear you and you can blend in with the crowd if you need to. You have to be careful and not suck up any birds, squirrels, cats or a lightweight crackhead when you're at full boost
Mr. Nelson your mufflers are going to blow their chambers soon 😁💥
Nice.
Woo hoo NER is back
Fuck yea about time for another dyno video
Wow, as usual, hope that wire is ok near the harmonic balancer
Bruh it's been a cool ass minute :D
I never got my Maximus signed poster :(
I think Tom Nelson should make a challenger for the Devel 16 made by Steve Morris racing that would be a nice build for Nelson racing engines.. personally I feel like Nelson racing is king of turbo
That particular super turbo muffler necks down to 2.5” on the inside. The offset inlet/offset outlet mufflers flow better.
Damn Tom, thought you went all FPSrussia on us.
Badass ........have u or will u try going larger diameter pipe and mufflers just for reference on hp lose?
when i get rich enough im sending a chevelle your way for some quiet 1000hp goodness
JKU lab me too that looks like a 60,000-100,000 dollar engine
@@mrss8979 If you don't know how to put an engine together then pretty much you're paying just on labor cost and some people overcharged too much for their labor. Thanks God I have my buddies, we build engines just pay for parts.
That’s a sign! You need to do a colab with Icon! A Derelict with one of your engines.
Sacramento, California, April 1, 2018 - In a surprise announcement this morning, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), long known as the emissions watchdog in both the OEM and aftermarket arenas, released an Executive Order stating that effective April 1, 2019, all forms of turbocharging on gasoline engines will be considered noncompliant with the state’s strict emission laws. As an additional blow, the wording of the new CARB regulation applies not only to aftermarket turbocharger systems, but OEM turbocharging as well.
Wow
My mind is blown at how quiet that f*cker is.
What’s the back pressure like with the mufflers?
May I suggest cutouts on the car
Am I missing where the throttle bodies are at?? beautiful!
John Connor i think it has itbs under the plenum
Honestly I wish more aftermarket/custom guys would use 190-210*F coolant temps like SAE requires and accessories. Love the videos NRE!
Manufactures run their cars at a much higher coolant temperature because it helps with emissions
@@K-Effect real world temps and conditions are better representation of the hp/tq an engine makes. Psst: higher temps=more efficiency, better emissions are just a by product.
The other huge difference should be spool time and the amount of power off the bottom end. Generally I see about a 50-75 hp gain right off of idle when I open up the intake and exhaust. Do I you have a log showing the difference between power off idle? As well as when full boost was established!
How about custom make ur own stainless mufflers with 4" perforated single pass thru?
How do we find out what a wonderful piece like that cost
Maybe it needs some bigger pipe. 4inch or bigger maybe?
Do you do any Buick Motor'.s?
Why was the cam sensor unplugged? It looked as is if it is. If it is ? Is it Not needed for this application?
What is the MPG at peak?! I'm really curious because shes gorgeous!
I am surprised the mufflers did not blow apart. I had to use welded mufflers.
Don’t hate on the fab guys. We can’t help but bang shit with a hammer all day or we don’t feel like we’ve done anything. Haha
Holy macanaw buds....;)))
We going to start getting videos on the reef look right🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
bad ass
Nice. a lot bigger than 2jz. Lots of POWAHH!!!!
Joe Man and sounds way better than 2jz!
"super mellow" 1100 Hp, yeah ok! lol I want one!
What happened to fair warning? I hope the car at least looks tough.
Therefore to good candidate for running cut outs
Very nice for sure. I would rather have the 572 NA NRE
So bad ass, ditch the mufflers!
Great Tom's back, but get a grip on cell discipline man. Already there are cans rolling about, loose wires, buckets lying around and the engine exhausting into the cell.
Now try straight thru mufflers instead of turbo mufflers. An 18" body straight thru muffler will be very mellow and not have nearly the same or at all power loss
He found a little dynosaur!
great motors great vids but a coke can floating around on the floor really get some tethers to show air flow FFS
Maybe leave the construction after the video hammer hammer .
Where are air filters? Let's see how much you loose
I`m sure this Beast will have some electric CUT OUTS
I like that you are running it through muffers - big advocate for running it on the dyno' the way it will be used, next time, add the air filters, please.
Many dyno' videos will run a street engine with dyno' headers, no mufflers, no air filter, no ancilliaries and sometimes with an electric water pump when a mechanical one will be run in the vehicle - doesn't only give a big disparity between what the dyno' suggest the owner is getting but can throw the tuning out a fair bit because the setups are so different. Some cases can be well over 100hp difference.
Oh, forgot - I have seen you do pulls on cold engines - PLEASE warm them up first as that is pure abuse!
Any dislike, man)
don't trust this guy
sorry, bad english, I meant to say, I don't believe it
stan moljgun you dont believe in Nelson Racing Engines ?) Maybe the Earth is flat ?? )
Great motor tom. FYI, those are the junkiest mufflers on the market.
California blue belly
Why 447? People have been at 1000 on stock cubic inch LS engine.
There are many ways to skin a cat. What you say is true there are some big hp N/A engines out there, but I bet this thing will make that power all day long without breaking a sweat. Low boost is far more efficient way of making power over traditional N/A methods every day of the week.
Sloppymechanics was putting 1000 to the wheels with a 100,000k mile 6.0 that was stock besides cam and springs along a cheap turbo... I'm constantly amazed at just how much money some people can spend to end up with the same results as guys who really know how to make the most of what they have.
That's exactly right member548 there are definitely easy and hard ways to make power, and some people think the only way to go fast is to throw money at it when really it just takes some careful thought. Any idiot with a pocket full of cash can go down to the auto store and order the latest and greatest, but from my own personal experience they often wind up with something that isn't either pleasant to drive, or even practical because what they bought wasn't really designed for what they used it for.
Case in point I am currently looking for a Lexus IS300 with a N/A 2JZ. I could buy a 6 Boost exhaust manifold and a couple thousand dollar custom intake plenum (which I could make myself for a fraction of the price) then whack on a couple of thousand dollar name brand turbo on there, and an expensive name brand intercooler, and before you know it I have just burned through $10k in parts alone. Or I could go down to the wreckers and pick up a supercharger off some factory engine, use a bit of creativity and get moderate gains for next to nothing.
nice, but will it pass California tailpipe test? just sayin
Might be the same boost setting but it isn't the same boost. The 1100+ change was done with 13.5 psi the 1200+ change was done with 16.75 psi. So in real power terms the muffler were probably making next to no difference. You have to do a proper apples to apples comparison to draw any meaningful conclusion. There is a possibility that if the non muffler test had been restricted to 13.5 psi it may have made even less power than with mufflers on.
Dodgy Brothers If I watched correctly, the increase in boost pressure came from the removal of the mufflers, so it is apples to apples.
Your not watching correctly. There were no changes at all except taking mufflers off.In doing so the motor made more boost and more hp.Mufflers on 1100 hp take them off 1200hp no changes. That's as apples to apples as it gets
I know what caused the increase in boost, that is why I said while it was the same boost settings (as in nothing was changed in the wastegate) but it wasn't the same boost. 13.5 psig isn't 16.75 psig, so it's not apples to apples. The only way to really see if there was a change between the muffler on or off would be to adjust the wastegate so it peaked at the same 13.5 psi, that way it would give you any real hp gap. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that if the same engine is allowed to make 3.25 more psi of boost it is going to make more power. Now you can either remove the restriction (the muffler) to increase the boost or you can wind up the wastegate, but both are going to produce more boost, amd therefore give you more power, that's a given.
Dodgy Brothers There were NO changes to the car other than muffler delete which was good for a few pounds of boost. Its apples to apples, man. lol
MOST H8D are you reading my posts? 13.5 psi is not 16.75 psi, how can you possible think this two are going to make the same power. Let's put it this way... If you left the muffler on and wound up the boost to 16.75 psi how much power do you think it would have made?
**The 'Coke Can' puts a big damper on 'Professionalism**
aaah tex I think he will be fine if you decide he's not professional enough to buy one of his motors.
She's a beut..
I remember when NRE was kind of cool. Now it's just another underachieving and overpriced shop. Nelson is stuck 10 years ago, and so many shops are just leaving them behind.
Because everybody and their dog isn't running crazy turbo setups anymore?!? LOL! Please enthrall us with the recent tech advances in the industry that are not being implemented in any of the mills coming out of NRE...
