Actually, I used to know the guy's brother-in-law. Met Aravinda's sister once. All around 2003/04, before I went to Europe and now have settled in the US. The woman's husband - being Aravinda's brother-in-law, was the dayshift manager at one of Sydney's suburbs KFC. Which was the same very KFC that Mel Gibson [Mad Max and Lethal Weapon, and Braveheart fame!!] worked at (probably work experience - went to St Leo's High at Wahroonga, while it was an all-boys school; now co-ed!), b4 he became an actor.

While there have been many great batsmen produced by Sri Lanka over the years, De Silva has to top the list. Pure class, pleasing to the eyes, immaculate timer of the ball and probably the best hooker/puller the game has ever witnessed.

Aravinda was well spoken, urbane and fair; special man and special batsman. All Sri Lankans believe he is the greatest ever Sri Lankan batsman. He was not someone like Greg Chappell to target the weaker bowlers. Aravinda would pull and hook the best fast bowler of the opposition for boundaries. A 100% original batsman capable of creating great theatre like Viv Richards.

I was at this match with my father, and my mother's father as a youngen. As it was the first 50 he made at the SCG. I also saw him get his last 50 at the SCG in the 2002/03 season. It was the first season that Lillee and Chappell didn't play after retiring. I heard years later that the 2 didn't want to play that 1984-85, as the West Indies were the other team that played that season. In particularly, that England got 'Blackwashed' 5-0 in the 5 Test series @ home by the touring West Indies.
