Reason is at that time there was no business. gowaskar can play any bowler 2 days easily. I grew up watching tendulkar and if I remember his most scores are against poor teams on batting wickets. While virat initial 35 100s were mostly during chase in pressure situation. TENDUKLAR always play himself mostly. When ever he did score with good teams , india mostly lose.

And not just in cricket, many things peaked around 90s in India - from quality of Bollywood/music, TV shows to quality of life in general. 90s kids/cohort would know.
I watched Sachin play since I was 15 yrs old. Ever since Sachin retired I have not watched even a single cricket match and before he did I did not miss one in which he played. I'm 42 now.

While there is a lot of recognition of how good sachin was at 16 to play such ferocious fast bowling there is no recognition of the fact that waqar bowled with such fervor when he was a 18 year old debutant
