India have huge probably the best potential, resources and most importantly time in their favour. In order to be the superpower of this century some policy changes and reforms will make India the real super power.
    1. Establish a national identity based on 1947 independence and 1950's constitution. Don’t make 2000 years old history of your Nation's identity. History is very much important but in cultural, historical preservation and education system only.
    2. Make pluralism the all political party agenda. India should never break the promise that they make when they become a republic. "Vivinnata me ekta".
    3. Clear border dispute with all neighbours. India have to be the regional leader. It’s neighbours should look forward to India for betterment rather than fear and suspensions. Indian people have to make this happen and keep it sustainable. Other becoming a super power would be dream that never happen. Kashmir problem have to be solved with talks. India and Indian people can change situations in Pakistan and Afghanistan, they do have that ability. Once these three things, peaceful neighbours, changed Pakistan and Afghanistan India can really look outside and make the best uses of it’s big army for peaceful programme to others parts of the globe.
    3. India is going through global warming crisis but India can be the global leader to solve the crisis. The Indian way (which they have done to industrial and tech sector) is their big plus.
So consider all these India can be a super power with in 2030. All the best.

For average Indians to have standard of living, per capita income and HDI similar to North America or Europe, Japan,South Korea or Australia or wealthy Gulf nations; considering its population remains same as present 1.43 billion population , India needs $ 90 trillion GDP compared to its present $ 3.75 trillion GDP. And India seriously needs to control its population explosion. 18% of world population living on 02.4% of worlds land area and resources is a really bad thing.

As income level increases, population fertility rate will automatically start decreasing. If you go in detail, in many Indian states fertility is already below the replacement rate of 2.1. Major Population problem only exists in 2-3 indian states like Bihar & Uttar Pradesh which are among the poorest indian states. These are massive states though but UP will progress in future due to good policies of the current govt there & hence we can expect significant reductions in population growth there. India is also going to suffer from less population growth in the future just like europe now. It does need per capita incomes similar to europe for that to happen. You are missing an important factor which is cost of living. Cost of living is also much lesser than europe.

Except that India literally does not desire to become anything akin to a 'superpower'.
The term superpower goes above and beyond economic growth and stature - it also encompasses being a military superpower (a true 'blue water' navy), exerting cultural influence across the world (i.e. pushing your culture/world view onto everyone else) etc.
India only wants to be prosperous, secure and sovereign.
Furthermore, India's cultural outlook is (and has been for millennia) to pull people towards her, not push her views onto everyone else.

No they want the power and respect of being a superpower but doesn't want to put in the work diplomatically or militarily. All the benefits but none of the work. That why its region is a mess and it had small diplomatic pull internationally. Sweden and Japan has more pull diplomatically.
Which is sad cause india has the population, miltary, and highly educated middle class to do so. Yet all its internal issues. Nepotism, endemic corruption. Bureaucracy, caste stratification, hinduvastism, poor slum gaps, environmental issues mean it lags behind.
Yet their tech, space, and drug sectors are amazing. Yet the best India leave and become pioneers elsewhere as merit based promotions are overshadowed by nepotism and family connections.

@@kelvinw.1384 that is such a western perspective. India does not "want power and respect" of a superpower. It might be an alien concept to you but Indians prefer respect given out of love than out of fear. And that is how India wants to be on the world stage. Look at the work it is doing in Africa and in other nations which is in the blind spot of the developed world. India does have concrete diplomatic relations with most nations but it is not with the purpose of bullying someone to fall in line. If the region is a mess, it is not because of us. And it is not our sole responsibility to solve it. If one nation’s leadership can give up its expansionist ambitions and another nation’s military can give up their obsession to annihilate us, we can have lasting peace. We have never been the aggressors. The OP has beautifully brought out the essence of India. The only reason our defence budget is so high is because we are surrounded by hostile neighbours. Most of it goes to salaries and maintenance. Modernisation of equipment and infrastructure has not received attention historically. It is only in recent times that we are seeing some improvement in that regard. Having seen the aggressive demeanour of the Chinese soldiers first-hand, I can say that it is only a good thing.

As someone from Southeast Asia country and have been following news of all Asia countries for very long time like since my school days. I don't understand why is India so keen and keep boasting to become a global superpower.
I have never read and watched news report that the Chinese people talking, claiming or dreaming for China to become a global superpower nation. The Chinese mentality is if they can achieved as global superpower that is good, If they can't so be it as long as they live a happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful life. They are not interested to have the global superpower status. They are more interested to have a peaceful and happy life. Even till today, China is so far ahead of India in many areas, far more developed than many western countries and countries all over the world. But they the Chinese is still so humble and said China is a developing country. But it is other that said China is already a superpower country. The Chinese never have claimed that.
But India????? I have been reading news of India talking, dreaming, hyping and boasting they will become global superpower more than 20 years ago and today they are still dreaming. I remember in 1998, APJ Abdul Kalam, a scientist and administrator associated with India’s missile programs confidently announced to all Indians that India will become a global superpower by 2020 surpass US and China in all aspects including space technology. But in 2020, at the same time same year, Global Hunger Index 2020: India ranks 94 out of 107 countries, under ‘serious’ category.
So what is the point when India has achieved the Global Superpower status, but Global Hunger Index 2020: India ranks 94 out of 107 countries?????

      2) Also, another thing is there are 197 countries in the world but why the hunger index data only shows up to 121 countries?

India has already become a 3 trillion dollar economy with a GDP growth rate more than that of many developing nations. And the death toll in
Manipur riots was way higher in 1993 compared to 2023.

We are already seeing consequences of greedy capitalism who want only their own families to rule and have bought media houses , just like in USA and Europe. They themselves do huge trades with Muslims all over the world and add trillions of dollars their family trusts, but fund media, politicians , courts to spread lies and mistrust in society so middle class families becomes poorer and they and their families become more valuable . Projecting Power, Influence, sucking up money, plundering or using some one elses money, bullying smaller nations through sanctions, all these are no definitions of super power according to the Vedas. These are the characteristics of Duryodhani or Ravana mentality which eventually gets defeated and Rama - Dharma emerges as the lasting victor. The people are so dirty and disorganized. My dad had a great job, so did his brothers and sisters, but whenever I'd come up with an idea, they would just laugh at me. We have a large family. I suggested we organize a family reunion. Ignored. Asked my dad what he was doing for his retirement. Laughed at me, ignored. Dad had to quit working a few years ago because of health problems and is flat broke despite making a few million in his career. I have to loan him money despite never making as much as he did. He's Indian by way of Guyana and I've never been there, but I've heard so many bad things. I guess criminals were breaking into some guy's house and the cops didn't even have a car to drive to the house and investigate. Just like, wow. Wow.

@@LOLLOL-kg4dzthey only call India 🇮🇳 a “superpower” because they are against china, have a big population, a large standing military, and nukes. They lack human development, quality of life, geopolitical influence, and cultural influence. Their GDP per capita is $2,601, Cambodia 🇰🇭 is seen as the poorest country in Asia and their GDP per capita is $1,901 and are now a rapidly developing nation. EU 🇪🇺 is overhyped too. They don’t even have a standing military, all of their conflicts and defense runs through NATO, which of course the USA 🇺🇸 are the big players of that alliance.

*India is already a superpower in the diplomatic and the economic world. When the Russia-Ukraine war started and India decided to keep its position neutral, a whole bunch of foreign ministers and dignitaries from the US, Europe, the UK, Australia, etc. went to India to convince them to oppose this war. Then you look at the foreign investment that is getting into India. India already has nuclear weapons. It has the second largest military in the world. The GDP per capita as well as overall is rising. It's just a matter of time before India's power will be felt in other areas of the world as well.*

A growing economy encounters at a certain time more resistance. Look at China, Japan Europe, and the US.
The question is, how flexible and resiliant a nation is to overcome.
The US is showing resiliance but its flexiibility comes with downsides. Adictions, homelessness, competition, winners and loosers, growing big contrast rich poor, demarginalised people.
      Shrinking public services.
China has not proven how resiliant their system is.
Europe, Japan and China are facing an aging population. Japan tries to deal with that problem with robotising their society.
Europe tries to compensate that with immigrants but it runs out of hand.
Hundreds of thousands of deplorables look for shelter that costs Europeens billions. Their contribution is relatively limited.
We as Europeens are forced to make a big energy transition. We are involved in a war and raw materials are a far preaching, increasing problem because of the tensions with Russian regime. Europeen union has to prove to be able to overcome. We only can speculate about the outcome.
India, if it becomes a superpower, it will deal with that sort of problems. How Will it inpact its democracy in a densly populated and diverse society and its international strategy in ongoing geopolitical shifts?
To grow is not that difficult concidering availebility of/accesebility to new technologies, cheap labour or easy acces to raw materials. but to maintain that growth and at the same time keeping the economy sane, to garantee acces to raw materials, , natural catastrophies with impact on the nation, revolting dissatified populations, internal political tensions etc.
Once a superpower all that will be more prominent and will have a greater impact on stability.
To be a superpower is not a desirable position . It is a burden. Mainly good for presidents and captains of industry.
Romans are better of now than at their heydays.
