Their resistance fighters have countered well the Burmese army's attempt at defeating their fight for a separate homeland. We talk to the Karen in Manerplaw. The mainly Christian Karen form the largest ethnic minority in Burma. They fund their movement by logging valuable teak in the forests. But the Burmese army is sealing off the border with Thailand to stop this trade and hence the Karen's source of funding.

I have been hearing of the Karens struggles since I can remember and read back in the 1970s. In my grown up years I met lot of Karen Christians overseas. What amazes me is that there are quite a lot of Karen Christians overseas and in Karen land but receive very little or almost non existent aid in whatever forms by Christians worldwide. The awareness abut these people's fate and struggles is almost non existent even to many Christians in the Southeast Asia. I believe it's time for Christians in Southeast Asia and the world to step up the effort to help these people in any ways possible. The awareness campaign should be stepped up even at the United Nations. News seldom get out due to the military regime control of the transportations and media. Christian organizations all across the world should not only come to offer helps in term of medicine, foods and education but also necessary arms and any kind of weaponry to help the Karens against genocide and attacks from the military junta. Praying for peace to descend on the land is one thing, but sending helps, men and women as well as tactical trainings and weapons is another aspects, in fact necessary to ensure the Karens security, peace and independence.

Manerplaw fall in 1995, without DKBA, SPDC not easily to break Manerplaw. SPDC got Manerplaw because DKBA helped them as bestfriend helped bestfriend. More than 10 to 20 thousand SPDC died and injured.

For those asking, "Why old videos?"... You can't understand the present without knowing the past. Consider this video a window into the past. It reveals to you the events and sentiments that reverberate all the way to the present. It helps you to stop embarrassing yourself by asking empty, ignorant questions like "Why can't we all just get along?" The present is wholly dependent upon the past. This is as critical to your understanding of the world as any current events news. Appreciate it.

@unitedstateofamerful - Thank you for the extra historical information from the period of the video forward. Hopefully, curious minds will allow videos like this to be seeds for their continued independent research. When I watch videos like this, I become concerned for the people involved. I then want to know the pre-history and the post-history of the events shown in the video. Wikipedia and Google searches are great starting points for researching and obtaining a much expanded perspective.

Also if myanmar splits into a lot small countries for example it would not help trade and tourism and industrie. and we should help eachother. and myanmar has the potential to be the next thailand (economically pretty strong in the region)

It is terrible situation that most of the Karens are being suffered by this war even it had nothing to do with their freedom. This war was a simply a Christian religious and political propaganda by Christian Karen leaders to regain their power they enjoyed over Buddhist community under the British rules. Even though Christians are the minority among Karens, they were successful to establish a international recognition with the help of Christian Missionaries.

Our people were not allowed to learn our own language, the women and children were being raped. They have no mercy when they see Karen people. They burned the whole Karen village on a Christmas day. They gathered the Karen people in a church and they burned them alive. The Burmese military evil. We had to fight back. It was our land before the Burmese came into Myanmar. Right now as I am texting... the Burmese military are attacking and killing people at Karen state in Myanmar.
