  • Myanmar Military Junta “On The Verge of Collapse,” What Caused the Downfall | From The Frontline
Myanmar Army is facing a crisis as they continue to lose territory and troops to the Three Brotherhood Alliance. This started with Operation 1027 when three rebel groups the Arakan Army, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and the Ta'ang National Liberation Army launched a joint-offensive against the Military Junta. Now the fighting has spread across Myanmar as India, Bangladesh and Thailand deal with an influx of refugees. Myanmar’s Army is on its final leg as they struggle to fightback against the rebel groups.

As a Myanmar citizen from the Northern Shan State area, we hope this operation 1027 is going to be a turning point and will encourage the people throughout the country to keep supporting the revolution, although it might take a few years because we still don't have adequate supplies. But we strongly truly believe this military junta must definitely fail one day, even though it is not tomorrow. This is just the beginning of the collapse of the junta, and you will see more in the upcoming years. This is not personal, but for JUSTICE, democracy, and freedom.

If there are conflicts, Democracy gives room to resolve the conflicts.

I accused UN of corruption in Gaza-WestBank humanitarian funds and for missing in action in Myanmar. Today the IDF is discovering proofs that my accusation are correct. And i found a comment in this channel that UN is really not doing anything. UN must send its peace keeping forces and humanitarian aid to Myanmar. If necessary, UN must disarm the Military and set up a civilian government.

That's sad, I hope the people of Myanmar stay united and civil wars end soon. Separating and isolation makes a nation weaker and less united as one country. Be careful of China government their motives are to support separatist movements to create chinese buffer state to expand their hegemony.
I'm Kinh Vietnamese and it seems Vietnam is more united as a country compared to Myanmar. Vietnam fought for its independence from China, France, USA and knows the struggle the ethnic people of Myanmar is facing.
    Vietnam is mostly united
because of stable government, economy is one of the fastest in the world, high nationalism and stronger identity. Kinh is the majority ethnicity in Vietnam but they still get along in peace with the other 54 ethnicities like Hoa/ Han Chinese, Hmong, Tai, Thai, Khmer, Cham, etc.

      Well said.
Myanmar civil war is a proxy war between China and the west.
China support rebel group in North and USA support rebels in the South.
Muslim insurgents are on the western border.
Military stages the coup because the west pressured Democratic Gov't to change constitution via its installed cells in Myanmar parliament.
Aung San Su Kyi Gov't was deinstalled by the west by supporting Muslim insurgents in 2017.
That made Democratic Gov't to balance the relationship with China. Hence China poured in investments.
That angered the west and deinstalled Democratic Gov't leader and now trying to replace with its preferred choices.
American missionaries are converting people and CIA are training rebels long way before this coup.
This is why Myanmar millitary oppressed the demonstrations with forces because they know China and the west are training and supplying weapons during Democratic Gov't is power.

    2. Crisis could become slaughter house (typical of Cambodia's 'Killing Fields' 45 years ago with 1.7 million killed);
    3. Crisis could pull in two contending super powers (US, China) effecting the region, typical of Vietnam War 50 years ago;

In the past, North Vietnam's ideologically driven military defeated the well-equipped but corruption rift South Vietnam army... A strong ideological conviction may not guarantee success, however, it is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Ideology is bulletproof, In an ideologically driven military (aka freedom fighters), from their commanders and to its soldiers alike, all are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to achieve their military objective. Even if the Junta has tanks, fighter jets, warships, and heavy weapons… it will be hard to face off against freedom fighters who are willing to die and fight them up close in massive human wave assaults to overwhelm their fortified positions... The Junta will fall if they do not come up with a diplomatic solution quickly to this war. Freedom fighters will use guerilla tactics, and tactical movement under the cover of darkness to inch close to the capital until they completely encircle the Junta forces, and once they do the final conventional warfare assault will begin… this is a replay of the Vietnam War playbook, And we all know how that turns out… Super and regional powers know that too, and that is why no country wants to get involved.

No. PAVN was far more advanced than ARVN and the PAVN had literal latest up-to-date Soviet and Chinese weapons of that time while ARVN for most part , operated with vintage Korean war era weapons while only the Elite armed divisions who operated alongside the US were equipped by latest but lightly armored and relatively cheaply affordable weapons which couldn't keep the pace with Soviet Technology in the long run.

The US supported South Vietnam and deployed B52 to carpet bomb North Vietnam's logistical routes/position. They also had access to a ridiculously large squadron of US fighter/bombers stationed in Korat air bases in Thailand and aircraft carriers, where they could call in air strikes on enemy positions on short notice. The US also deployed devastating air-dispersed chemicals (defoliate) agents against North Vietnam's strongholds. US air power assets made available to South Vietnam were overwhelmingly strong, practically lob-sided. Yet North Vietnam persevered and undertook a herculean task to build a massive logistical chain and underground tunnels to circumvent the overwhelming opponent’s air power advantage. All wars are a battle of the wills, if all are equal then the country with the stronger cause is likely to win. In their minds, the North Vietnamese army's goal was to unite the country at all costs, while the democratic South just wanted to remain in power.

    • @halo7250

In the minds of the Myanmar freedom fighters, they have a singular purpose now. To build a federated Myanmar, ruled by a democratically elected government. The Junta military on the other hand purpose is to stay in power and reap the benefits it entails by staying in power. If you think about it in all countries, the citizens will always outnumber the military in terms of numbers. When the people decide to take a stand and rise up against the military, the junta can't stop the numerically superior citizen force. In the beginning, the military might have an upper hand, but eventually, the daily grind of human wave assaults will dwindle their military strength. How is the military going to replace their losses? Forced conscription on the citizens they are fighting against?? This will only result in mutiny and the rebel factions gaining more members who are now trained and armed by the junta previously… The Junta has already lost the war in my opinion..

@@halo7250Goals are not just achieved by undeterred and undying wills but by adequate and state of the art weapons and Brilliant minds too.
The Logistics chain called Ho chi mi trail was literally made into neighbour countries of Laos and Cambodia and they had to bear the brunt of The largest bombings . In fact contrary to What Vietnamese would like you to believe , the most bombed areas (even more than WW2 and WW1 combined ) of the Vietnam was were these two nations. Though brutally intelligent this was , the Cambodians and Laotians still hold grudges against Vietnam for not rexognising their efforts. Although that sentiments have beeen wavering ever since but not in Cambodia due to 1979-89 Vietnamese led occupation in retaliation to khmer invasion.
2nd , Soviets and Chinese literally sold tonnes of state of the art technology to North Vietnam. Including those secret technologies that even Members of warsaw pact didn't receive till end of 60s. You are not expected to win a war against a literal superpower with muskets. You need to be trained and equipped as a near peer adversary in order to take on your enemy. The Soviets and Chinese realised it too soon and gave the Vietnamese AKs, RPKs, Dragunovs , DshKs , RPG-2 , RPG-7, ZPUs, ZU-23-2s, ZSU-23-4, S-75 Dvina , S-125 Goa , KS-19 100mm AA Guns , MIG 17s , MIG 19s, MIG 21s, Mil Mi 4s, BM-14s , BM-21s, M-30 , D-20 , D-74s , 82mm Mortars , 120mm mortars , 160mm mortars , Type 59-1, T-54/55s , Type 59 MBT , T-62s, YW 531 , BTR-50s, PT-76s Type 62 light tanks , Type 63 Light tanks , P-15 Termit missiles and up to date Anti Electronic and Anti Radar warfare which wete the up-to-date cheaply maintainable and cheaply affordable technologies that can match up or even outpace Western Technologies which were just Mere upgrades of Vintagr ww2 equipments and costly technology which the west found too costly to make , sell and protect against enemy capturing. US aircrafts and bombers have a hard time fighting VPAF Mig 19s and Mig 21s and evading S-75s even though the USAF outnumbered VPAF despite near peer adversaries status. What do you think is happening in Ukraine right now ? NATO thought it will be an easy cake to crush Russian army just because they thought western sanctions will crumble Russia's technological sector and crushing a less technologically advanced Russian armed forces will be easy. What they didn't get is that Russian technology are pretty much built around successfully evading sanctions and actually cominf up with indigenious hi-tech solutions for battlefield that can give near peer adversary clash in Ukraine and win. Russia Ukraine war is the Near pear warfare of 21st century where instead of a state going to war against bunch of goat herders , A weakened state buffed by the entire state is going to war against a sanctioned isolated state whose raw strength is equivalent to half of the world.

@@halo7250Myanmar war is more complex than we all think. And Myanmar in past has been ruled by many juntas, the most successful one being the 1988-2010 led SPDC , that was popular amongst the Bamar majority and even ethnic minorities who were buddhists by faith like Kachins and DKBF karens . Plus they won wars despite sanctions and not good quality airforce in 90s (Myanmar airforce today is far more advanced than in 90s) . And above all they were competent and had the economic backing of powerful countires and neighbors like Russia , China , Israel , France , India , Thailand etc
The reason why Current Junta general is losing power is because
1)He is totally disliked and has lost popularity among the majority Bamar community , especially Youth and it was alleged that he was the mastermind and architect of 2007-2009 buddhist monk massacres in Myanmar when his seniors were in charge.
      2) Myanmar's only two trusted Weapons supplier , Russia and Israel , has been in war with their neighbors since 2022 and 2023 , which means Tatmadaw is in a crunch due to lack in logistics.
3)China is heavily involved in Myanmar and is actually covertly aiding the rebels against the Govt because they deem the Current general is too much "anti China" and "Pro India" despite the fact China has involved money with Tatmadaw im the past. China is also unhappy about the scams and cyber attacks that has been perpetrated by Myanmar army backed Cyber terrorirst groups . China has also supplied a large amount of small arms which also include Anti Tank weapons, ATGMs , Mines , Drones and state of the art MANPADs to Various militias , especially to Ethnic Chinese militias like Wa state Army ,MNDAA and other one IDK , but there are 3 Chinese EAOs in Myanmar who are heavily backed and armed by China including these two I mentioned. Operation 1027 happened because China green lighted it to happen.
3)Myanmar is a padt of the Golden triangle which is an infamous zones in the South East asia for it's Opium factories , illegal Gun smuggling, Human trafficiking , Jade mines , Timber industry and alleged reserves for Uranium. This all started when ROC allied and anti CCP chinese warlords settled in these areas and started their illegal business backed by the American CIA and local Govts.
And now by the start of 21st century , A large part of Myanmar (Shan state and Kachin state ) fells in this area .
And almost every faction in Myanmar wants to consolidate their power in this triangle ,be it the Tatmadaw , or the EAOs or the Chinese . Especially the Chinese , since they have invested heavily in Myanmar to have not only access to the Indian ocean but to strip Myanmar of its resources in a sort of "economic colonisation" model.Chinese state run companies have long sought to have monopoly over the trades in the Golden triangle and are going every corner to do it.
      4) I am not worried about the Arrival of Democracy in Myanmar . I am much much more worried about the collapse of the Nation and almost every ethnic armed organisation EAOs going rogue. Democracy came in China in 1911 , but instead of stabilizing , it further destabilised the nation and plunged the Chinese into warlordism , Civil war , economic depression, invasion and brutal human rights violation by the japanese and many more till another authoritarian poerr called the CCP finally came in power, ended democracy but made China into a super power. Or just look at Afghanistan and Libya. Or examples like Syria ,Iraq , Lebanon, Mexico and Yemen . The thing I want to mention is that overthrowing the Tyrant is no big deal , but filling the power vaccum is. And the Thing about Myanmar is that even after the Junta is gone , Not one ethnicity in the nation trusts each other and are soon going to turn their weapons on each other the moment tatmadaw is gone. Myanmar is that nation that has suffered the most following ww2 , brutal dictatorships and the sanctions they brought with. And these type of war torn areas often inevitably creates more power hungry people who wants every oppurtunity to grab and rule by force. And I am more worried as An Indian because sooner or later the weapons and militias that have fought junta will infiltrate their neighbors with drugs and guns to create havoc. Already We are seeing the Meitei Kuki clashes in Manipur state in India. And we have planned to close the border because we don't want the militants to have access to the guns and drug money they are getting to kill innocents. Our Neighbor Bangladesh have also the same problem with Arakans because the Arakans have repeatedly tried to infilitrate and do illegal drugs and guns business in Bangladesh and support local separatists movements . As an Indian , I don't want North Eastern states to see the separatist led violence of 80s and 90s and want my fellow countrymen to remain safe. And we will do everthing in power to do that.

So delighted to hear this news after living 10 years in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I did editing work for several Chin Ph.D. students and also had many Shan, Karen, and Gorkha friends and spent much time attending their temple festivals at Wat Papao and Wat Kutao. But it’s really sad that the Western media pays so little attention to Myanmar, when the situation is just as bad as in Ukraine and Gaza and has been going on longer than in either country, with probably a larger number of civilians in total killed. The people of Ukraine and Gaza got so many Easter prayers at all the churches here in New Orleans where I am now living, but there were none for the people of Myanmar, despite the fact that there are many Christians there and so many churches and Christian NGOS working in the country and in the neighboring hilltribe area of Northern Thailand.

January 4, 1948: Burma broke away from more than 60 years of British colonial rule and formally declared the Republic of the Union of Burma, with Shwe Taik as the first President of Burma.
1974-1988: Ne Win promulgates a new constitution, recognizing Rakhine, Chin, Kachin, Karen, Kayah/Karenni, Mon and Shan states as administrative units.
Myanmar is a very diverse country with many ethnic groups, each with their own history, culture, and identity. However, the state has failed to recognize and respect this diversity, and has often tried to impose a dominant ethnic identity on the rest of the population. This has led to resentment, discrimination, and marginalization of ethnic minorities, who have taken up arms to defend their rights and autonomy. The military, which has ruled the country for most of its history, has also exploited ethnic divisions to maintain its power and control over natural resources.

Our educational system is one that instilled nationalism. Just like India a continent composed of many ethnicities and religions. But as their slogan said "unity in diversity". Yes Myanmar had that many different religions and ethnic groups but these ethnic people can easily adapt to other ethnic groups, i assume most are Christian converts. Hallelujah.

      Yes they are Christian converts.
American missionaries are giving military training and dividing people at the border lands, Karen State, Chin state, Kachin State until today. The west is also supporting Muslims insurgents on the western border.
Myanmar Democratic Gov't was installed by the west to contain China and India. The west didn't help democratic Gov't because muslims who want to control Myanmar politics from abroad stop the west.
Hence China took the opportunity to balance Myanmar democratic Gov't policies and offered investments.
That angered the west and took down democratic leader Aung San Su Kyi.
Junta staged the coup because the west advisors and cells forcing Myanmar democratic Parliament to change constitution just so the west can install their preferred leader.
Now the west is supplying weapons via Thailand.
This media didn't tell you how PDF and EAO are brutally killing civilians.
EAOs are racist, Christian fanatics hence they are ethnic cleansing smaller ethnic minorities in their territories.

Yes the "Rebels" may be outnumbered and lacking in equipment, but what everyone always seems to underestimate in these types of conflicts, is that the Rebels are highly motivated and are fighting for a cause they, by definition, truely believe in. If they didn't, they wouldn't fight. Most of the regimes Troops, fight because they are told to, not because its what they believe. A small, motivated force, fighting for their ethnic homeland, will more often than not, perform far better than "experts" expect.
