  • In Myanmar, armed groups are joining forces to get rid of leaders who weren't elected. But how well do they get along? And could the country end up splitting apart, even though the military promised to keep it together? We first speak with the deputy head of UNOCHA in Myanmar to gain insights into the situation on the ground. Then, we broaden our discussion on Myanmar's future with additional perspectives from our other panelists.

    Your clip kept showing Rohiga refugees , not Shan. Shan state in northern part of Burma bordering with China. Shan aren't welcomed there . They even stopped refugees from coming to the border by tear gassing them . UNOCHA hadn't done anything substantial for long suffering Burmese , only the local NGOs are the one helping as much as they can . You can not only talk about one group fleeing; if you want to talk about humanitarian crisis, talk about ALL the groups who have been fleeing since independent.

    Is it really true that the junta lost more than 50% of the control ? Why is this not the top headline news? Won't that mean the military lose the battle already? Also, out of all the many ethnic groups struggling there for independence, Rohinga does not even make it to the top list and this is the only group Westerns pay most attention to.

    • @hikashia.halfiah3582
      @hikashia.halfiah3582 Před 6 měsíci +7

      afaik, they can't defend and gave up on the outerlying rural area, but they hold the core heartland of sort in the middle. But yeah, basically half of Myanmar. So maybe if they want to, why not declare independence there. Unless the freedom fighters really think they can drive Tatmadaw over the edge of the ocean.
      But that last point is also good, the freedom fighters have been proven capable, maybe as much as Ukrainian fighters. If the world really care about so called democracy, they should have stepped in with weapon aids to the freedom fighters.
      Though nearby China might complicate things up, which is why probably the key player in Myanmar is China, whom both junta and freedom fighters try not to offend. Even US call out for China to help solve Myanmar crisis.

      These western self-righteous holy cows do not address the root problems. Real truth be told, the entire region of today's Myanmar had Buddhist and tribal people living peacefully and in harmony until the British colonizers and thereafter the Christian missionaries invaded and destabilized the society. Rohingya's are also foreigners, ethnic Bengali migrants of the intolerant Sunni Muslim creed. Islamic jihadists and Christian crusaders are the real culprits, who are hell bent on fighting and converting native cultures and beliefs all over the world.. Military juntas and corrupt dictators are a product of political instability and anarchy, while the Chinese communist rascals never fail to exploit chaos for their own selfish gains.

      True and well said. 1970 Bangladesh civil war sent nearly two 2 million refugees to Burma, four 4 million to North-East India, and half a million to Nepal. Those nowadays refugees are originally Bengalis. WASHINGTON POST.

      An estimated 4 million people living in a border area of India have been left off a controversial citizenship list designed to stem the illegal flood of immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh, the majority of them Muslim. [WASHINGTON POST, 30 July 2018]

      "India excludes 4 million from citizen list in Assam state, sparking fears of mass deportations"
      India says hundreds of thousands of people have illegally entered the country from neighboring Bangladesh over decades and settled down in the North East. Bangladesh rejects the claim. [SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, Monday 30 July, 2018]

      Ethinic divisions and conflicts are systematically set by military mostly by military propaganda. Extreme nationalism has been nailed in and sparked fires for numerous ethnic and religious conflicts.
      And please note that those armed ethnic groups just gave a birth to a well trained version of new rebel groups, those who used to call themselves the majority of Burma.
      So, along with the end of the military, i guess there will be very little or no suppression of and upon minority.

    Myanmar civil war is played by China. China seems to be supporting both sides, but they now favor northern Alliance Brotherhood called (MNDAA, TNLA, AA) more than military junta because they think military junta is untrustful for them. China not only creates fire also involve in Myanmar's internal affair.

    • @54living
      @54living Před 5 měsíci

      What a naïve! "Myanmar civil war is played by China." Not really. PRC is impatient with dictator. Because of this dic, the country is in turmoil and PRC can't do road & belt initiative trade route. Burma is between cross fire of trade war of US and PRC (check geopolitical issue, CMEC: China Myanmar Economic Corridor, railway Kunming (PRC) to Kyauk Phyu, Rakhine State and Kra land bridge of southern Thai that planed by Thai and PRC). PRC wanted Burma to peaceful so that it can do road & belt initiative trading route. PRC will side whoever the winner in Burma to do its trading route. PRC is trapped with its own motto "non intervene in other country's internal matter". Just after coup, ambassador of PRC asked dictator to release State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and president U Win Myint but dictator didn't care. 4 months after coup, PRC, India, Japan, UN and EU tried to negotiate with dictator behalf of 8 ethnic national armed group but dictator refused. The latest problem. Louk Kai, border town of PRC and Burma, there is criminal gangs from PRC, Taiwan, HK, Macau and making phone scandals and many countries were duped (even in HK alone, 1.1 billion HK$, i.e. 137.5 million US$ lost). PRC asked to catch those Louk Kai criminal gangs. Among them, 5 are dual citizen of PRC and Burma (illegal for both countries as only one citizenship is allowed), 5 are Burmese ethnic which 2 of them were given wealthy title by military dictator.

    I feel sorry for China in this case. They have so many pressing economic concerns to deal with at this juncture and the last d$@% thing they need is instability on the border. China is right to try to not pick sides because no one knows who will be more sucessful or stable in the long term governance of Myanmar/Burma. I also pray that if the resistance coalition is triumphant that they will realize that the BRI investment already undertaken in Myanmar is a strategic asset to them as well and that they maintain friendly working ties with the PRC. I'm not a particular fan of the PRC but think that they have a lot to offer the world economically and are suffering unduly as a result either of internal mistakes made during zero covid, natural disasters, or overratcheted trade bullying and encirclement by the US, which has moved from reasonable, just a few years ago, to radical and needs to be toned down.

    The report is bs, china man might as well advocate for the military at this point, his analysis is based on pure pessimism, there can also be no talks with the junta who have perpetrated war crime after war crime. Worst case scenario, the country is balkanized, so be it, the ethnic groups have suffered long enough, there should only be one acceptable outcome and it is the annihilation of the military dictatorship.
    The reporter also talks about both sides violating human rights, yes, one of the ethnic groups allegedly forced conscripts, but to simply compare that to the indiscriminate bombing, pillaging, and razing of villages is laughable. I also feel that they trying to push the Rohingya agenda, because the majority of all of the recent war refugees are not Rohingya but many of the other ignored ethnic groups the west ignores.

The liberalisation by Aungsan Suchi (never mind abt the spelling, not going to mention that name any more) got the whole world excited thinking that it was the last opportunity to play the awakening Asia story and then we saw billions of investment dollars were poured in and most of the global MNCs sent their senior executives to Yangon mopping up prime grade A office space and high-end apartments, only to realise that things can take a complete turn and that the Juntas could suddenly come back into power.and that their Statue of Liberty could simply collapse overnight.
