Unfortunately the only "Karen" most Americans know about is the white woman meme. They don't know about the indigenous ethnic "Karens"(including S'Gaw[father tribe], Pwo[mother tribe], Karenni/Kayah[Red Karen - also include MANY subtribes], Bwe, Paku, Mobpwag, etc.
I wish I asked my grandmother to tell more story about my people.
The only one I know is the father leading his children through a jungle and they stopped to cook snail but they don't know how long it took to cook. The father got impatient and went ahead to clear/cut a path and never came back because the grass/trees he cut grew back too fast and he got lost. His children become karen tribe.

Many different verses in the Bible contradict that theory, one major one being in Acts 10 when God gives the Disciple Simon Peter a vision. Simon Peter goes to the house of a Gentile who worships God and the man is baptized with his household. When the other disciples question this, Simon Peter reveals the vision God sent him, explaining that God does not favour only Jews. The Gentiles can receive the gift of salvation as well.

I don't agree with the author completely for he did not know that Karen were the second largest ethnic group in Burma (Moang/Myo are among the Karen tribe too), but many lived in MyitWaKynePaw/Pathein (peninsula area) near by Capitol city, Yangon at that time. Of cause, many lived in rural/mountains area. He needs to learn Karen's history a little depth before he published it. Karen people were first received the Good news and spread the Good news to Chin and Kachin state and majority of them widely accepted it unlike Karen. Karen were the group who helped British most because of what they have believed. Yes, Karen people have been oppressed constantly and one of my relatives was killed for his faith in Christ for being a preacher. I have come from Buddhism background and no one ever told me about the Creator. When I was 9 years old, I sat in front of the shrine and called to the Creator of the Universe. It's in our gene and God know where His children are regardless of your background.

For us Karen people, Jesus is the symbol of hope and liberation from both physical and spiritual bondage. My grandparents and great-grandparents believed in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, leaving behind animism. Knowing and receiving salvation through Jesus is the greatest gift for the Karen people.
