I was Invited to Karen Tribe Home & Wedding (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

  • I stayed with the Karen hill tribe family in mountain village of Thailand and I had the honor of being invited to a traditional Karen Hill Tribe wedding ceremony. To my knowledge; The tribal people on the Thailand-Myanmar border particularly tend to keep this kind of event comparatively private.
    And with that being said I would feel wrong if I don’t give you a little bit of the context on how I was invited to their wedding in the first place.
    My relationship with this hill tribe village, together with the people here starting from
    “The boredom of Chiang Mai City”
    Nothing wrong with the city itself. But just as time passed by; I started to feel a bit too comfortable, meanwhile I was satisfied with the city and ready to explore something new and unknown.
    So I decided to take a trip to somewhere remote and rural; here in Nongtao village - resided by Karen tribal people;
    This is where I met newfound friend : P’ Nonchai
    During 3 days of hanging out, it was…. tiring yet fulfilling - my life mainly involves following him around observing, learning, sharing experience, and helping him out as he takes care of his elephants, that’s how we connect and build the friendship
    Then, on the day of saying goodbye
    He asked if I would like to visit again for his brother's wedding ceremony happening in about 2 weeks.
    That’s the starting point of me tagging along P nonchai, his friend, his cousins - having a wonderful local experience. Which gives me a better sense of this unknown side in Thailand.

    Don't you think that this Karen hill tribe community is so beautiful? I especially love the conversation I had with Powerpuff girl ladies when i gave them compliment and they acted so shy 😳
    All in all, I feel so honored to be invited to a traditional Karen hill tribe wedding ceremony and get to stay with the family there even it was so unexpected. If you enjoyed this video, make sure you watch the previous 2 episodes about my experiences in Karen hill-tribe village here : bit.ly/3suMhT2 see you in the next one:)

    Wonderful story! Keep telling stories like this. This reminded me so much of my wife's home village in the Philippines. It made me a little home sick to tell the truth. Keep up the good work. When we were last in the Philippines my 20 year old son was with us and we went over to a small island for the day to swim and take in the beach. My son and I along with the fisherman who took us all to the island went over to a small fishing village to get some fish to eat and some other things. 2 white guys from Ohio 12000 miles from home. They had no electricity or any of the modern things we have and they were so beautiful and welcoming. I told my son to remember this. This is not a game and how many of his friends from high school have ever had an experience like this? Please keep telling your stories!

    This was very interesting and informative. It seems kind of primitive in a way and if I could go there it would be like getting back to nature. They seem very self sufficient there. I think it is also a more healthy way of life. The scenery is very beautiful. The wedding looks like it was short and I really like the tradition clothes. I find it interesting the married ladies wear a long skirt and the single ones wear a short skirt. Sounded funny when I heard so you know who can flirt with. I also found it interesting even tho they have pigs and cows there they eat chicken as everyday meal and pigs and cows are for special events. It is really good to hang out with locals when travelling as you can learn so much. Anytime I have been to the Philippines I have enjoyed the province life over city life. The city is nice to visit and explore but the province you get to see more culture and traditional ways of life. After seeing all these videos on Karen Hill Tribe I am hoping maybe you have more to share. As always a great job Tah. Keep smiling and stay safe. I am already waiting for the next adventure
