Assalamo alaykom sister!!! I'm a Muslimah revert, nearly 3 years. I have the same exact experience. Every time I praise Niqabis (I'm a hijabi) and I say I wish one day to be a Niqabi full time they say to me (and I'm talking about other Muslim sisters) "omg is too much, u salafi, why do u have to do it its ugly"..... Ya Allah... It's so sad.
It should be the opposite. The more the sister is modest, the more we (the other sisters) we admire her and aspire to be like her.

What's ironic is that when the brother didn't know what Orthodox meant and then proceeds to give an incorrect definition of Orthodoxy saying it's blind belief etc. One may ask does he examine his beliefs (whatever position he holds) under the same microscope as he wrongly accused the Shaykh of blind following. Who is really blind following and who has the daleel (evidence) on their side? If one is sincere. They can clearly see it is the man who is a "blind follower" following his own desires.

Do they not understand that Allah already knows the future and He revealed Islam with that Knowledge? Allah "perfected" this religion, so what is outside perfection except imperfection? Islam was as an opposition to many social norms at the time of Prophet Muhammad including polytheism, riba, zina, tribalism and superstition. How ironic is it then to argue to make Islam conform to today's atheistic societal norms that revolve around chasing your own pleasure instead of Pleasure of Allah.

This is a very common attitude from our Muslim brothers and sisters who want to bland in and not be outwardly Muslim as well as those who are offended by those who are still keen to follow their religion when they have abandoned theirs as it makes them feel guilty because they have let their Deen go. I was confronted by a Muslim who was offended when I dicided to start wearing the Hijab who started to physically shake and ask me why, why, why stating her grandmother fought for the right not to wear one. Another was equally offended and for years and since I started to wear the Hijab will send me nothing but videos of extremists/Isis murders etc as if to say well you must be one of them now otherwise why would you wear a head scarf. Very sad indeed. We often harbor these feelings and attitudes because we suffer from low self esteem which has developed from years of colonisation and being told we are not worthy of respect because of our ethnicity or religion. We carry an inferiority complex which manifests itself in these types of behaviour. We end up pandering to those who have told us our religious practices make us backward and inferior. May Allah give us 3iza as as Muslims we have nothing else to make us worthy except for Islam and once we lose it we are NOTHING.

SubhanAllah I can definitely relate to you Akhi especially now in the west if you look a certain way even muslim they’ll target and criticise your appearance. This happened to me as well because of me growing the beard following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed ‎ ‎(ﷺ) as he said ‎ ‎(ﷺ) “Trim down the moustaches, grow the beard and differ from the magians (fire worshipper).”
    (Sahih Muslim 260)
SubhanAllah all these people who were telling me to shave or line up my beard happened to be all muslims, nowadays you’ll find muslims following their whims and desires and we have come a time where in hadith Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “We are now in this day. Blessed are the strangers.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the strangers?” The Prophet said, “Righteous people among many evil people. Those who disobey them are more numerous than those who obey them.”

1:43 The definition provided by Shaykh Uthman is not the same written there.
"Orthodox" is not "to stick to the original". It's true that probably most orthodox denominations in different religions think they're "sticking to the original", but that they may not be doing it and that's not what makes them orthodox.
If orthodox was that, Catholocism and East Christianity would be following the original beliefs, rituals, etc. of the first Christians.
Members of other denominations and, probably, most Muslims don't believe they do.
The pretense of "sticking to the original" is a Salafist movement characteristic among the Sunni:

«Salafism is a branch of Sunni Islam whose modern-day adherents claim to emulate “the pious predecessors” (al-salaf al-ṣāliḥ; often equated with the first three generations of Muslims) as closely and in as many spheres of life as possible.»
    www.salafi-islam.com/what-is-salafism/
«Salafism, simply put, is a form of Sunni Islam that aspires to the model of the earliest Muslims (“the salaf”).»
If Uthman is a Salafist, may that's why he conflated Salafism and orthodoxy.
Reformism, Progressivism, and Liberalism are not the same.
Salafism is a reformist movement, but with the idea that Muslims should return to the original ideals.

i dont like to talk bout all these, as it was advisable to actually hav a forum wth the relevant understandings n ulama, instead of a one-to-many relationship tazkirah like this...
ok, now, a lot of ulama's normally do not realize one thing, that the caliphate at the time, sent different people n ulama's around the world, and most probably differred in hadith translation, and sometimes more flexible that what you guys are talking about. bros, we must learn to agree to disagree, n please dont conclude just because you have read hadith more than the public. Certain local norms were not excluded for reasons known to the ulama's sent there, to those different localities.
please help to unite these difderence, but try not to present the black n white from what you have studied... back then, they would call in these reps who had differences n create a fatwa forum, opinions n suggestions and the history related to the tazkirah on the hadith... please let people process all these thru the communication with the ulama's and officials who are experts...
Please note, im not saying anybody is wrong or right, thats the way we muslims would like to learn about this... this world is about learning, not judging each other
