    Thin and light gaming laptops are just the sweet spot for me as someone who needs enough power to play AAA games occasionally but also use it daily for work. So I look for the laptop with a dedicated GPU within slim and sleek package. I'm aware that this category is not as powerful as the performance 'gaming' line-up, but this is what fits with my needs most.

      Perfectly said, I'm in the same boat. I would kill for a machine like that, but I need the money for it first. I was looking at Rog Flow x13 Lenovo Yoga pro 9i, here in Hungary it seems the lenovo is much more reasonably priced at 1730 Euros, with an I9 CPU 4060 nvidia and 32 gb ram, 1tb storage, the screen is 120Hz.

      I wish to dailydrive something like an XPS 16 or Zephyrus G16, but I need more VRAM than a 4060 or 4070 can provide.
      But these are so much easier to fit in your backpack and carry around all day

      @@benedekmorhorvath4230 you can consider the Lenovo yoga pro 7, less bright matte screen and less gpu options, but a better price and has an AMD CPU (so probably less heat and more battery life)

      @philipphollmann6022 Před 17 dny +3

      It is not only about performance, but also fan noise and thermals in general! Thin and light gaming notebooks are the exact opposite of sweet spot, because today's normal sized gaming notebooks ARE thin (or "ultra thin" when putting it into context to its hardware aka physics).
      Looking at the evolution of gaming laptops, power draw has risen every year, but thickness has been DECREASED year by year. Sounds counterintuitive? The emissions show the quality degrade: Many years ago, we had mostly 45db under load, this raised to 50db and now we regularly get MID to HIGH 50s under load, which is super annoylingly loud!
      Laptop thickness has come down from over 30-35mm (which had to dissipate a lot LESS heat) to mostly 25-27mm desite having to cool a lot of more power draw. This IS thin, but with some rest of engineering quality and physics in mind!
      The "thin and light gaming laptops" you refer to, are nothing than marketing gags, because the only reason, why manufacturers make them is that they can cut costs on materials (less aluminum, less plastics, less copper and so on which sum up on many thousands of sold units) on the one side and sell it to you for premium surcharge. LOL
      The competition is very tough and the market is saturated. So manufacturers fight for the press and customer spotlight. How can this be achieved better than with highly simplistic (but very dumb) headlines "Ultra slim", "ultra light" etc. in bigger letters. It is sad that so many people let fool themselves by the same cheap principle like newspapers do to catch attention or for click baiting. 😞
      Normal sized (26-28mm, 2.5-2.8kg) notebooks fit into every standard laptop bag with ease. Absolutely no advantage for ultra slim laptops. Normal sized laptops do not need more space on the desk, because footprint is (essentially) the same. Again, no advantage for ultra slim. The only thing I would (partly) accept is weight. If your REALLY carry your laptop ALL DAY NON STOP with you (do you? :P ) , 2.5kg might be uncomfortable (not a big problem in a good backpack though).
      So we have one single niche advantage. Against which disadvantages? Less performance, louder fans, higher temperatures. If you want to get full performance (which you paid for, right?), thin laptops overheat, burn your hands and get super loud, so you always have to have your headphones on hand. Not exactly ultra portable, right? A 4-5mm thicker laptop without the need to always wear headphones would be actually more portable. And what about people in the same room? Do you buy headphones for them as well? What about using your laptop as workstation in the office? The slimmer, the louder the fans. At least, your colleagues won't call your thin and light laptop a "sweet spot" :P

    Thank you for simplifying the review. I want to get a new gaming laptop, stuck between MSI GE78 HX 14 VIG, Dell Alienware m18 R2 (better-built quality), and Asus Strix Scar 18. Have you seen our reviews for all of them? For the MSIs, we only have the 13th Gen Intel for now, but most of it will still be relevant. My favourite would probably be the Alienware for its design, performance, noise, build quality and ports.
      The ROG Scar has the best screen, and there is nothing inherently wrong with the MSI; I actually liked it a lot; it's just really, really loud. At least the 2023 model was.

      Well, to be honest, the Pro 7 is my go-to recommendation. It is still reasonably portable, all the ports u could need, sturdy and subtle build and performance is excellent.
      The screen is little bit of a tricky situation even tho they upgraded it to higher color gamut this year, for me it almost checks all the boxes. The Yoga Pro 9 is also amazing, but play in a completely different performance bracket.

    2:20: Thanks for pointing that out! Many people don't have a clue about tech and physics or simply don't think about that issue until they realize that loud fans ruin the gaming experience as long as they don't want to be forced to headphones (and all people in the same room as well). I mean, on desktops we play the same titles but want super quiet fans, right? But on laptops? Hell, get it loud, so that my neighbors know that I am playing! :D Laptops are of course much inferior in cooling than desktops. But what does manufacturers do? "We make them even thinner" FACEPALM
    I had two thin laptops and I highly disliked them for being disturbingly loud while gaming. Due to the lack of honesty and quality of many reviewers, who don't point that out and just re-phrase the brand's marketing headlines, people don't get the whole picture of pros and cons, resulting in bad purchases and reducing the market share of better quality aka "thicker" and well-cooled laptops 😞

      The only meaningful laptops to get in 2024 are the ones that made big screen improvements, like OLED or the 300Hz mini-led. Many manufacturers though kept the exact same chassis and screen and only "upgraded" the processor. If you're looking at once of those laptops, then 100% stick with 2023. But if you want OLED or high-refresh Mini-LED, then you're most likely needing to look at a 2024 model.
