I have said it before and I will say it again . As a business owner of 26 years this should only be a side gig. Those who try to make this a read winner will be very disappointed. This market isn’t the same as it was 10 to 15 years ago.

@@therynothedyno when I started LEGO investing in 2011, there was very little competition, many people didn’t know it existed or realized that LEGO sets went up in value. You’d have to go on a few small forums to find other investors. Back then, pretty much anything you bought would double in value. You didn’t have to worry about Amazon having lingering stock of a retired set or even about having to buy a set at a good discount. The go to strategy at that time was to just buy any large set, especially UCS sets, and you could rest easy knowing you were going to make good money off that set.
Now, the LEGO investing world is much more nuanced. There are many factors to consider when picking sets for investing. At the end of the day, the best way insure your sets become good investments is to be disciplined and only buy at strong discounts.
@@TheBrickDynasty understood. There is obviously much more of a need to do good analysis and really get your buy cost as low as possible. My question was more regarding the comment that Lego investing is no longer viable as a main source of income. Seems to me that while the low hanging fruit may be gone, there is still plenty of room for a savvy investor to do very well in this space. But again, I’m a newbie so my perspective is limited.

Great video buddy I can’t agree with you on the ghost . It’s a great build great mini figs very short run on a Lego Amazon exclusive . We only had one other ghost and phantom and combined those 2 can fetch 900.00 . I see this set hitting 300.00 within a few years if not less
I managed to pick up the Morbius set for Buy 1 Get 1 Free so have bought a few to see how it goes. Amazon sales still quite high around MSRP 👀
I agree with your assessment about the Amazon exclusives in general. If you are not looking for volume it isn't a bad idea to pick up a single set on Amazon Prime days.
100% agree with your Skyline take. Unless its $12, like Dom's Charger was at the end of the year, I'm avoiding.
I share your concerns about the Ghost being an Amazon exclusive. I avoided the Razor Crest and Pick up Truck for those reasons last year, but I think this is a better set than both of those (and better than Vader's Castle). I might get some for May the 4th promo or wait and see if Amazon has a lightning deal near the end of the year.
I agree about the Loop Coaster. I'm not sure how many sets the loop pieces are in. It might be only this one. I remember on Lego Masters Jaime saying they made the loop pieces for this set after failing with regular roller coaster pieces. That could be a reason it could do better than expected.

Seeing the Razor Crest last year at 30% off (limit 20!) scared me. I’m taking the same approach as you on the Ghost.
That Skyline will be $50 right after it retires.
Have you ever bought a set on release? Like DnD with a good GWP and unlikely to ever go on sale?
I only buy sets when they’re close to retirement because I want to reduce my hold time as much as possible. No need to buy on release and have your money stuck for several years with no appreciation in value.
I understand your point about ignoring too polpular sets at resellers,
but on the other hand, some of these sets are great nevertheless.
So in the end you suggest to avoid... great sets!
I’m not necessarily saying to ignore them, my overall takeaway on these sets is that I need a larger discount on them to invest than most people who are hyping these sets. Your buy price is what will make these good or bad investments.
As you can see from the sets in my background, I still invest in sets that are popular in the investing world, but my buy prices for them are very low.
I picked up the Gavin 4 at Walmart a few months back for 100.00!! There were 3 and I took them all at that price. Also the morbius is a great price point and exclusive first time fig I see this being a good investment.
Time will tell!

I disagree on avoiding the Ghost & Phantom II 75357. The comparison to the 2015 set excludes the Phantom II which came out in 2017. This set includes both those previously retired sets. I was able to pickup 5 of this set for $100 a month ago. I may pickup more depending on May 4th deals as you state. I built this set with my son and the hype is real. My only concern which I didn't hear you mention is that this set is released again in less than 2 years with the continuation of the Mandoverse shows and movies. Appreciate the video.
At a $100 buy in, I agree that it should be a good investment.
My concern isn’t with the set itself, but more so because it’s an Amazon exclusive. We have no clue when it will sell out, but I fear it staying in stock on Amazon for months after retirement, delaying its appreciation in value. LEGO likes sending in large shipments of retiring popular sets to Amazon at the end of the year, like Medieval Blacksmith, Luke Skywalker’s Helmet, Winnie the Pooh, just to name a few retired sets that are in stock right now.
Rerelease is a potential issue as well, not something we can predict, but I feel like they wouldn’t remake one of the same scale within the next 2 years. Maybe a UCS version though 🤷

I believe the Yavin could be decent, I'm able to get it right now for £99 instead of the £149 retail, would purchase a couple if you can get over 40% off mainly because of how many figures there are and unique, if it lasts 18 months I can see it being 160 after 18 months post retirement, would be silly not to get a few at the 40%+ mark tho
The investing potential for LEGO sets definitely varies depending on what region you live in. So it could be a much better performer in your area!

The difference between the razor crest and ghost is about a year and half less shelf life
True, there are many better aspects for the Ghost, especially the minifigure selection

All those boxes are very shiny and imposing in the background but light and dust will kill them. You should not storage like this.
Yeah it’s definitely not ideal to have a window there, if I was leaving them there long term I’d need to find a solution, but I rotate through inventory often enough that it doesn’t impact the boxes. Appreciate the comment though!

Ah, no, I just converted the currency. It should be 75 to 90 bucks. The cheapest ones I got were 75 but most around 90 anyways good average price feeling confident that the future looks bright for this one
Brian, great insight! I think there is some hope for the Ghost, but we’ve been burned by so many of the Amazon exclusives that I’ll probably stay away. I’d rather be wrong than make a bad investment! Especially with so many other home run sets out there!

Lego Investing in Germany is kinda dead as of now, not many are buying sets. I am still holding on to some, but might sell a few to make room for others.

@@TheBrickDynasty it still works, but I guess I’ll have to hold on longer to them, to where stock is cleared for the most part since there was still a lot of access stock left in stores and online platforms. I buy at least 20-30% or more off. For me it’s more like a side-gig to support my purchases that I wanna keep.
Mercari just announced that they have eliminated all seller’s fees and added a purchasing fee to the buyer. Any thoughts on how this may affect Lego reselling?
I looked into the platform briefly, but I don’t think I can give full opinion without trying it out. It definitely is nice as a seller, but who knows if they’re losing a lot of buyers because of it. Since I’m expanding to Amazon right now, I don’t have the capacity to explore other selling options at the moment.
The fast and furious 2 with Paul Walker is a must have and will do good in future.
My biggest concern with Star Wars or Disney sets is Disney. They have absolutely destroyed these once great franchises . Enough said
