    Since there was a question regarding this, let me clarify:
    - The base Swift does not have all the options shown here. The Swift Sport is basically the top trim variant and does include most of the stuff shown here.
    - The 1.4 Turbo petrol engine does not have a particle filter but still complies with the new Euro 6d temp emissions norm.

    Great review and very accurate conclusion. You are the only reviewer to mention the great feeling of control and extra feeling of space provided by the swift's fantastic upright and curved windscreen, a unique feature it shares with only the mini. It makes a huge difference in the fun to drive factor and one of the main reasons why i bought a swift. I really hate those claustrophobic sharply slanting windscreens that make you feel caged as you mentioned. Cheers!

    The suspension is a sports suspension, so it needs to be able to corner well at high speeds, and it does this admirably, but it also has to be relatively comfortable in the suburbs. Somehow Suzuki have come up with a good compromise. The 17" wheels with low profile tyres, probably make the suspension a little unforgiving on bad roads, but all other Reviewers have remarked that it soaks up the bumps quite well. And it's UK reviews pre-release reviews were in Ireland on rather bad country roads. I have the 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters, which are very quicker to respond. The automatic transmission is a normal torque converter type, not a horrible CVT or dual clutch, which is unsuitable for inch to inch traffic jam situations, due to the clutches being unable to engage. Gear changes are very fast and smooth. You can use the paddle shifter at any time to change gear, and the transmission will return to automatic after 60 seconds. Or you can select "manual" and hold a gear as long as you wish. This car can beat anything when the traffic lights turn green. Here in Australia the car with comes with every modern safety feature known to the motor industry, except blind spot monitoring, which is not needed for such a short car. The car does not seem in any way light in my opinion, it feels very solid, even when the doors are shut, there is a nice solid "thunk" sound. The steering is also not as light as I imagined. Inside the car, there is no feeling of this being a small car, and I say this coming from my previous Nissan Pulsar. It feels pretty much on par. The view through the rear window is about the best and most expansive of any car. Standing at the back of the car, it appears to have a quite wide stance. Do not imagine this to be the diminutive size of previous Swifts, it is a lot bigger. In the late 90's I had a Swift GTI, and even it did not small inside. But whereas Swifts were rather raw and basic, now they are surprisingly mature and sophisticated.. The Swift Sport has the maximum 5 star Ancap (Australian) safety rating.

      Thank you for taking the time to write this. I understand this comes from a real experience. I wish they sell this new model in my country so I can upgrade. I really would want to skip the outgoing only available GLX 1.2 model instead of my 2013 SSS, which in the same Champion yellow color. The car is very obedient and its very reliable for its segment and does perform very well so long as you keep it fresh and neat. Must've been a blast coming for a Nissan Pulsar I would say. Always admired that one.

    Best mix of acceleration / sportiness and fuel economy out of pretty much all cars. Also Suzuki is underrating their official acceleration numbers, in reality they are faster. In most tests the Swift Sport 0-100 time was around 7,5 sec (with automatic even down to 7.0) and 80-120 in around 5 sec.

  • @storeput45
    @storeput45 Před 6 lety +3

    I have the new swift, but it's the entry-level with 90 HP. However, I am certainly not unsatisfied with it, I actually think it'll be more rewarding with fewer HP, because the lower trim version is incredibly fun to drive. It's so stable in corners, and you can really push the engine to its max. I absolutely adore this vehicle.
    Even though it's the entry-level version, it's so fun. I even had the adaptive cruise control fitted to mine and it's just one of the best cruise controls I've tried. Then again, it doesn't really hurt that it's also adaptive.
    There's so much space in this compared to other cars in the samme class and price tag. It's beautiful, it looks far more expensive than it really is. The only thing I really could point out as an area for improvement are the doors. They just feel way too unsafe and thin.
    But it still is a very cheap car, compromises have to be made.

    There are only 7 differences between the standard Swift interior and the Sport interior: sports seats, aluminium pedals, different trimmed steering wheel, different colour dash and door panels, red tachometer and extra coloured trim around the gear lever and console. It also comes with a Lane Keep Assist button on the steering wheel. Only the Sport gets this tech in the UK.

This Suzuki Sport and that Mazda 2 have almost same equipment, and are probably one of the last small city cars with 4 cilinders. Mazda 2 has naturally aspirated engine 1.5L while Suzuki is 1.4L turbo petrol. Factory claims this Suzuki goes 0-100 in 9.1 this hybrid version and this Mazda 2 manual transmision 0-100 in 9.8sec. Thomas, I am grateful for your insightful comments during test drives of some smaller cars ( labelled as "City cars" by some ) which potentially interest me ... in so far as I might buy one as a 'second car' for local use. I am reluctant to sell my Suzuki Swift Sport, which I bought in 2010. It is a superb car; nothing has ever gone wrong in 19,000 miles. And, with safe regard for others, it's a joy to drive to its ability ... I get where I want to be quickly and safely, with a grin !
    It seems the 2018 version you have test driven is a worthy successor. My dilemma will be to EITHER replace the Swift Sport with the new edition OR keep the one I already own and preserve it from short mileage town use by acquiring a small stablemate ! That's something I need to figure out.
    Apart from that, I'd like to say how much I appreciate your helpful and obviously honest opinions expressed in your video reviews. You do them very well indeed. Best regards from Nottingham.

    Brilliant review as always👍 I love the Swift sport old 1.6 and the 1.4 but I went for the Up gti as it’s 4K cheaper and more fun to drive despite less power.

    I had a 2008 Sport. Now a 2013 Sport, the true fuel economy (after doing the maths) over a full tank of fuel is about 16% worse than the displayed Average Economy. Is this true of all Cars? I still want the latest model! Cheers Phil from Down Under W.A.

    Excellent review. Non biased just from your own viewpoint. Regarding the rough suspension, it's a sport model like a Fiesta ST, which also has more firm suspension. Both of the cars are among the best steering vehicles in its class. If the 1.4 Boosterjet engine has dual fuel injection (port + direct), the particle filter can be omitted to fulfill the euro 6D temp norm.

    You make so many remarks about optional this and optional that but in a Swift Sport almost *nothing* is optional, the only thing you can spec differently when buying it new is the colour. At least that's how it is in Sweden, maybe Germany is different ?
    I looked at buying a small "sporty" car new and i looked at every car manufacturer and the new Swift Sport is the most value for money of all makes. No one else has the same horsepower, equipment and functions for the same money.
    I bought a blue swift sport nein days ago with a Remus sport exhaust, JR22 rims and full Suzuki MotoGP striping and i god damn love it. You can really throw it around corners and it just runs like a train on rails no matter how hard you push it. Or at least that is the feeling it gives you. And the brakes are really good too, very reassuring bite when you press the brake pedal :)

    • @SemtexWarrior
      @SemtexWarrior Před 4 lety

      Oh and i forgot to mention that the Swift Sport can easily make 165HP with just a software tune and even more if you swap out the intake and exhaust system. The highest ready-to-go *bolt on* performance figure i've seen is ~230HP with nothing but bolt on parts and a tune. That does involve changing the turbo and that is one expensive part, around 1800-2100 euros.
      Here is one of many complete packages ready to just bolt on to get 200+ HP: www.ctc-performance.co.uk/store/ctc-performance-stage-4-200ps-310nm/

    While the suspension is a bit rough there is a noticeable body roll at the same time. Often reported are loud, squeaking wind noises at 200 kph also. Beside this it is quite nice. :-)

    Hi Thomas, interesting review, like always, right! :) Zusuki designers look succeeding in giving this car a promicing beautiful shape that is related somehow, as I feel, to motorcycles world, I really can't express more, but I can say that this is a very cool shape really! Congrats Suzuki! :)))

    An unfortunate thing was they reserved the poorest-quality paint ("pastel", though pastel wouldn't have to be the lower-quality, but that's how they make it) for one of the colours suiting the car best, yellow.
    You can have it in yellow, on condition that you have it coated in a poor pain that will lose its hue after not a few years, but a few months, if you live in a Mediterranean (or hotter) climate.
    They should have offered the low-quality pastel paint in white, and have a metallic, weather-resistant yellow along with the blue, red, and others.
