  • This is the all-new Suzuki Swift Sport. This mini hot hatch may have lost some weight and gained a turbocharger since our last visit, but with a price hike thrown in is it still worth considering? Take a look at my latest review to find out.

Yeshwant Dasari I get what your saying but I don't quite agree, if you want comfort and tech, there are plenty of cars that do it better for the same price. I understand what Suzuki are doing, trying to make this car an all rounder. That's not what I want so il stick with my 08 sss I suppose

    • @yeshwantdasari2075

A Fiesta ST does have it

@Richard Williams Received mine on October 16th and this little pocket rocket is endless fun! I'm a family father, having a wife, a daughter and a dog and even though we too have a station wagon, this "tiny" car at only 3,89 meters length still provides surprisingly much space in the front as well as in the back (easily enough for four grown ups at 1,80-1,85m) and on top of that is still capable of carrying your weekly grocery shopping in the pretty big boot. Fuel consumption can be brought easily to 50 mpg when driven normal as every other "normal" car. Even when being pushed, the cars fuel consumption never exceeds expected levels, the 1.4 Turbo definitely does NOT need more fuel than its predecessor, in no scenario!

Struggling a bit with some of the ill informed comments - i have had Suzuki swift sports, all from new and the latest is the most complete car by a long way. To be fair In New Zealand they are very popular as competition like Ford Fiesta ST and polo GTI are way more expensive and both have poor reputations for reliability and quality compared to Japanese cars. Having had all 3 sports the new version would blitz the old models point to point on any road along with having a much better driving experience around the city which is where they will get most use. Yes the new version may not have the rawness of previous versions, but how often do you really get to wring you hot .(ish) hatch out in the real world. Its 2018 folks and having 50 MPG, lots of safety features all bundled into a practical, but still smile inducing car is really what real now. Bring on the backlash from all those lads who think they need 200 HP to sit in the traffic Most day!

I agree with your comments. I've had the two latest Swift Sports. The new turbo is very fast. As a driver's car, I'm inclined to believe that the Fiesta ST is better. But the Polo GTI... No chance. The Polo GTI might be faster, but as with all VAG products, they are dull, lifeless machines to drive.

I test drive one of these for 24 hours. They are unbelievably fun to drive. I would have bought one if it wasn't for those horribly narrow seats. As an average sized Australian, my legs sat more on the bolsters than between them, and the side bolsters dug into my back. Those seats were definitely designed for small Japanese people without giving much thought to anyone of even moderate size. I also found my size 13 foot would hit the footrest when using the clutch. I found myself having to adjust how I placed my foot on the clutch pedal. I would have also preferred a digital speed readout in between the dials instead of useless graphical readouts of boost/torque, acceleration/braking, etc. The Australian version has a speedometer which goes from 0-260 so the lines are crammed so close together its hard to easily read your speed at a glance. Finally, I get that it's a small car, but a centre console armrest would have been appreciated. You don't notice it at first but when cruising for any length of time, not being able to rest your arm anywhere gets annoying. Those gripes aside, this is an insanely fun car. I could live without the digital speedo and armrest. I hope in future models they make the seats more comfortable and I'll buy one in a heartbeat!

Hello Everybody from Argentina! love the show and also Matt´s reviews! one of the best in these short car video tests. I was wondering though, @Matt: what happened with the usual music and effects? for example, when you get into the 5 annoying things? is it a rights issue?. The last videos I feel the music was too low and as I said before, different (I loved the other one :)). All the best to all car enthusiasts!

I usually like small sports hatches, but for this, the weight, damping, and a somewhat funky interior are the main USP´s. The exterior has become less iconic with some rather large front wheel overhangs resulting in a heavy nose profile. The cruise control with lane assist is really not needed for this kind of car - A slightly lower entry price without that option would have been preferable and perhaps 10 HP more instead. Neither the UP nor this looks particularly cool - but If Matt says it is fun to drive then it is an important part of it.

Always loved the Swift Sport. I used to own a Lupo GTI back in the early 2000s and I suspect the Swift is one of the few current cars that could match that thing WRT fun and everyday practicality. Plus the Suzuki is most certainly more affordable than the Lupo, which was quite dear. But hey... when I sold it on (which I regret today), people were cueing up to take it off me.

The Fiesta ST is also very different and if you want the ST with a similar spec your looking at 23k in the UK. Ive checked them all out and test drove them and I've ordered the Swift Sport.

@@h0tdish Definitely the 33. I loved how high the 32 could rev. I took it to 7000rpm each day I drove it. Super reliable engine. The 33 of course got more torque. I chased my friend around Franschhoek Pass (Google it) in his 32. Downhill that 32 was super quick but when we turned around it was mostly uphill. The 32 could not keep up of course.
