Come on Vic, time to start allowing ala carte builds. I would love to have a 91mm Cellidor scaled knife with an Electrician/Hawkbill blade in lieu of the small blade, and not have to send it in to the factory to be modded. Great collection you have. Thanks for sharing.
I think it’s time for a collection update ( if you want too ) lol mine has grown considerably since I’ve started watching your channel. Thank for all the info, I learn something every time. I found a weekender or serrated spartan for 20$ new the other day and couldn’t pass it up! Stay safe and stay busy!
To me, the other end of the reamer is a bigger difference: towards the scale, the grind ends suddenly on the Wenger while it runs out gradually on the Vic. Nice video again, with great knives! I hope you are doing well, my friend :)
That old cross is really elegant! For a moment I forgot that Alox models have been around for that many decades. The latest shield design is beautiful too, of course. My next Alox model will be a Pioneer X because the Victorinox scissors are a must-have, in my opinion.
Dan I just got a new without box 1986 Victorinox Soldier. Never had one from that era. I love the thicker openers and that hollow rivet. All the features that make those 80’s ones so cool.
I'm digging that Old Cross model. I'll look into getting one on eBay if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Recently I was able to score a new, never used before and in the box 1998 Wenger Soldat Messer (1961 model, so Alox). I like the cellidor scales too but lately, I've fallen in love with the Alox models too.
Thank you so much for your time. A very interesting video only have two Swiss Army knives. But I am slowly learning thanks to your videos. Appreciated!
Hi there Dan. I really enjoy your videos. I one I saw recently, I believe you mentioned purchasing some empty SAK boxes. I'd like to buy a few. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.
I was sure that I had researched that both Wenger Soldat and Vic soldiers had two types of blades. A polished blade stainless for civilian and a standard Blade for Military issue. So you may not have been comparing apples to apples. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The shinier tumbled blades were never issued to the military in Wenger nor Vic. I also believe I read the military spec blades had less chromium content. Not sure if this correct. All my stamped Vic's and Wenger's are matt blades though. This could be just coincidence. Also if a blade from a military version was replaced after service it would receive a blank shiny gloss stainless blade from Vic or Weng, however obviously the date stamp would then be gone. This would explain old cross versions with no date stamp and a shiny stainless tang stamped blade with Matt secondary tools which I have seen on a few occasions leaving one to wonder what date the knife was.
I recently found out that my old Victorinox is an Old Cross which has been discontinued from production. Until then I thought he was just a model variation... I bought my knife in 1994 and only some time later I realized that it didn't have a key ring. But I've never known - nor have I ever seen anyone explain - the reason for not having the key ring. Does anyone know if it was a specific series, if it was a mistake... what was the reason?
Swiss Army Dan, thanks for your videos. I’m looking for a soldier SAK from 2003 as this is the year I became a soldier. Can you recommend any good websites for specific dates? Also what is an acceptable price for this kind of thing? Should i expect to pay more or less than a new one? Thanks again from the UK.
Also just for your info. The older soldier models make a bit more sense here in the UK as the new one (I have one of these) has a lock which is illegal to carry in public in the UK.
@@tonycanniffe2360 You're probably right. I have a small collection of 52 SAKs, zero of the Wenger product line. I only started collecting 4 months ago so I've built my collection fairly recently, and I tinker with all of them throughout the week. I really don't know how many more I'll buy, but I guess that depends on what they release on their website and what Amazon has. I'm having fun though, and that's the important thing.
The Wall Cometh Yeah. It’s addictive but fun. I reckon he has a few more than you but he’s been at it longer. 😉Maybe 150 or so. There is an almost endless variety it seems and the vintage knives are very cool. And they are useful and relatively affordable. I have a few Wengers. I kinda like them. I think I’ll nab a few more when they come up. And some vintage Alox Vics and Wengers.
I love the look of that matte finish Wenger.
I always thought Alox was a new design! All through my childhood to now I thought of Swiss Army as plastic scales.
This channel just gives and gives.
I agree, collection update sounds awesome

It will be interesting. I would like a Spartan or Tinker with it. Also some of them with the large serrated blade.
Thank you for posting video during these times
