The F50 GT1 is an interesting (and rather depressing) story: Ferrari halted development after only two(?) cars were built once they saw the FIA and ACO approving cars like the Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes CLK-GTR and CLK-LM and Toyota GT-One, which were basically prototypes re-engineered to be street legal to satisfy the homolgation requirement, whereas the F50 GT1, like the McLaren F1 GTR and Ferrari's own F40 LM before it, was a road car upgraded into a race car, which was the original intent/spirit of the GT1 regulations.
The F50 GT1s that were built were subsequently sold to private collectors...who had to sign legally-binding contracts that they would never race them! Oh well, at least we can race them against other GT1s and prototypes in PCars2 and Forza to see how they MIGHT have done in period...
Game crashed midway through recording the replay... so I apologize half of the race is cockpit only!
David Land so is there a Rolex 24 bandwagon gide soon
David Land k
David Land what Time progression is it on
The problem with the game is that it has too much going on. When you run dynamic weather + dynamic time + penalties + spotter + AI with more than 14 AI cars the XBox One standard or One S, you run into problems. I also noticed your frame rate was degrading toward the end. Turn all this stuff off and it'll run smooth with 14 AI cars on the XBox One. If you want to run all that stuff with a full field you need the One X. There's a few posts about this in the XBox One section of the Project Cars 2 forum under "what's your favorite video setting" or something like that.
Absolutely love it when you play pcars 2. Keep it up!
@David Land: The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona you're thinking of was in 1997. Also, back then the GTS/GT1 class cars usually weren't supposed to compete for overall victory (Initially, the class existed for tube-framed cars similar to the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo that won the '94 Daytona 24hrs & Sebring 12hrs) and usually were gridded with cars of the same class up until the Panoz team and a couple of Privateer Porsche 911 GT1 owners lobbied for a change.
Cool video as always. I liked the fleeting glimpses of the Ferrari F40 LM & F50 GT1 as well.
i recently discovered your youtube channel and i must admit: your videos are mesmerizing but i would describe it as an entertaining trance because you really got a professional sounding commentary voice, combined with knowledge and a euphoric racing mood makes up the fun of watching your vids mate! keep it up (the nice 90's intro in this video finally got me to write this comment though)
Standing start bug is inherited from any previous races that had standing start. So just do another race at say seca and select rolling start there. Start that race and exit. Then come back to Daytona and it should respect your rolling start request. Hopefully fixed in next patch (4) probably in Feb
I love your informative commentary. Subbed!
Dave deserves more subs
I think some long distance races would be cool to see
Fantastic Project Cars 2 videos!
Love your content KEEP it going
You can do a similar thing at Le Mans in June.
Nice video. To bad the Riley&Scott MKIII don't find the way into a racing game nowdays....sad.
I like the in car and outside view like that..
Looking back on sports car racing over the years, this has to be my favourite era even though I never really got into motor racing until 2001. Originally the Gran Turismo series brought me here. But yeah it was interesting to see how two completely different classes could run so competitively together, and this really made for some great racing. Happy to see the GT1 Mercedes CLK LM take the win outright! I’m surprised how bad the Ferraris did. Mind you if the Audi R8 and the Bentley Speed 8 had been racing they would have won easily. Be interesting to see how the GT1 and LMP900 classes would affair against the LMP2 class, which would be something to see around the circuit of Le Mans. Also interesting you were saying how the WEC were thinking they might go back to more high-powered GT car racing as the Prototypes are so expensive, and to be honest they really don’t look good as they did a decade ago. Since they added those ugly tailfins in 2012 they’ve really lost their style! I can think of some modern super cars that would make great GT1 or super class race cars including, the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Mclaren P1 or the 650S, the Aston Martin Vulcan, maybe even a modified Ferrari 488 and the Pagani Huayra. All of which would make top race cars for a GT1 or even a Super class, that would be awesome to see!
Nice video.
Im watching the videos for informations about motorsport history.
Do you play with any help on (maybe stability control)?
I struggle a lot more with the car with my g29, and cant be competitive as AI 73% with cars without TC (Impossible in the rain)
I think some longer races would be nice. Maybe the modern style Daytona 24h simulation could be an hour in length, or more to get some pit stop action. But as the grid is limited, leaving one class off might be a good idea, as otherwise the field would quickly spread out in a longer race.
Also, those black shadow boxes seen on the track at the night-time will appear if you watch the monitor (the cam where you can watch other cars driving) in the practice or qualifying sessions. It is also possible that watching replay during sessions might cause the bug, although I am not sure and have not tested that myself.
Anyways great video, looking forward to see more Daytona 24 content!
Like this guy. He knows his racing history and realism
You mentioned that even in Daytona in January it can get cold. I think in 2014 or 2015 there were actually ice patches on the infield portions of the track. Cars had to slow down a bit to avoid slipping.
The road course version at Daytona can do a standing start
How did you managed it to use the LMP900 class of the game without the Audi R8s, Bentleys, BMWs and Toyota GT Ones?
I wonder how to use just the Ferrari F333 SP with the GT1s in a race at Le Mans
David you think you'd do another q &a anytime soon? I'd love to see how things have changed for you since your 1k Q&A
Good vid.
Have you thought of making the switch over to PC gaming, David? I recently convinced the better half that we needed a new PC and that we should spend a bit more to get a more powerful PC so we wouldn't have to upgrade for a while (aka I wanted a gaming PC). Wow, what a difference! Coming from Pcars2 on PS4 to PC was like night and day!
I struggle with buying a gaming PC, because I figure for the money I'd spend I could buy a kart and race for real.
Check out Dan's racing and simulations. He did a video on a PC he bought on Amazon for under $1000. He apparently can run a VR headset on it!
how do you have the panic my pc2 dose not have it
Could we get some Imsa at Indianapolis and do you think they should bring that race back or run a lmp3 mpc or Porsche gt3 Cup or nothing
I've always wanted a WEC 6 hour race myself.
The GT1 Ferrari never raced because Ferrari developed a GT1 car and realized that its main opponents would be monsters like the CLK or the GT1 Porsche who were prototypes disguised as GT1s.
David for the proper Rolex 24 recreation(LMP2/GTE/GT3) could you up the AI amount to 31(max)
I wish. The game bugs out with more that 15 AI on Xbox ONE.
David Land that's odd it works from me as seen in my videos
+AOR SmokingPuppy841 The physics are noticeably worse though. The car suddenly gets very twitchy on corner entry and exit.
Suggestion for next race :
Dubai Autodrome
Ginetta G57 +LMP3
How did you manage to get the 333 SP to be the only LMP900 car used?
Restarting the race until I did.
That Panoz Looks like the same thing as the Hot Wheels Version of the Panoz.
Daddy David
Do a NASCAR heat 2 Live stream soon
Are you sure the physics were bugged? It looked to me like you were losing downforce in the draft of the Ferrari going into turn 1.
+Hooks The wheel was clipping horribly on the banking those last couple laps
A great tool for Project Cars, if you run it on PC that is, is Crew Chief.
thecrewchief.org
It's a little Program that replaces the Pcars Pit engineer with a better engineer and spotter.
Aside from Pcars, it works in Asetto Corsa, R3E/Raceroom Racing Experience (came originally from there), rfactor, rfactor 2, Copa petrobras the marcas, Stock Car extreme, Formula Truck, Automobilista and most recently, in a beta mode, in iRacing.
It talks less than the original Pcars 1 and Pcars 2 pit engineer, but at the same time tells you more ;).
It gives you more information, about you locking up wheels or spinning the tires, it informs you when the track and air temps rise and fall, and informs you about weather, opponents deltas and if you gain or loose per lap and by what extent, if your tires are cooling down, or heating up, or if anything else is happening.
The Spotter works, well like a spotter and does help a lot in avoiding collisions, even in series that normaly don't have spotters.
Such a shame the replay sound is awful in this game...
