One thing to be aware of when installing this carb to that intake manifold. (at least with the one I have which is probably the same one everybody has..GPS or GSP is written on it...) The O-ring on the carb is really close to the same size of the opening on the intake. You really need to install the carb on the intake before you install the intake to the engine. That way you can look into the intake and center it up on the O-ring for a symmetric fit when clocking the carb. I bet if you looked inside that intake from the side that mounts to the engine looking toward the carb, It would be off center in relation to the O-ring and the opening in general. You can end up with an intake leak.
Ok yes this is what is Happening with mine after install … it looked lined up but when I started it was bogging then it started leaking fuels from around the filter … so do I need to align it again ?????
Hey Red Beard, because of your channel I myself bought my son a minibike and just finished building 1 for myself.. it’s all thanks to your videos and know how I was able to do this.. Thank you sooo much!!!
Ok. I'm sold. I'll be ordering one of these for my kart today.
Honestly sliding the barrel in and screwing it on is one of the most satisfying things of working on engines and carbs.
Just got my predator Gov out head ported and polished and big box of goodies be here tomorrow from go power sports with the makuni carb in it thanks red for confidence to do it
Love your videos keep up the good work I'm doing a 212 right now im doing a mild I'll try to keep it mild build
That cable-soldering tip was a good idea! I've been wrenching for a long time and I've never even seen/heard of that! I like learning stuff. Thanks man!
+kz6fittycent thanks man. I just came up with it one night and it worked very well.
a dab of super glue works too.
Chris W this worked for me!!! Thx
Owen Stephenson No prob glad to help.
I have a stock 212 will I mess up the engine if I just throw a new carb on it and run. And do I have to do other things as well like flywheel, rods, piston?
Thanks for the video, will try the carb on my next build.
When you installed the cable on the slide atop the Mikuni, it looked like the sleeve was pulled away from the top of the carb. Is there a trick to seating it in place?
Keep it up red beard, you vids are awesome I love binge watching them. Also I am planning to build a gocart w/ a 212 predator and I want to do upgrades to it.
Awesome man thanks for watching
Good video, Thanks for sharing. Looks like its going to be a Mikuni Christmas for my go kart !
+shawn mcintyre you will not be disappointed
i just did the header, intake and jet to my predator 212, Ive also put a zip tie through the governor spring. what would you suggest i do for my next engine modification?
18lb valve springs and mod2 cam
thank you!
Nice drifting! I need to get 2 of those carbs for the dual 212cc kart that I am putting together. I need two of the manual clutches as well lol. Great video, keep them coming!
Yes they would make a huge difference. That thing is going to be mean.
One more question... is there some way to adjust idle on that carb? I put one on my predator, just like your video. But don't see how to adjust the idle. Thank you.
The adjustment for idle is on the side of the carb facing the pull start
Appreciated. This thing runs strong now! Enjoy your videos.
Been lovin your videos lately! Am new you know. Thumbs up man!!
Awesome video. Very informative.
do you have to take the governor gear out or can you just take the linkage off someone plz respond
What notch should i put my needle on bc i have a original cam shaft nothing its upgraded
Another huge problem with the stock ones which really isn't their fault is that when pushing the engine over their rev ranges the car can't keep up and it'll start leaning out, found that out by taking meat out of the governor
We love your videos!!
Did you ever mess with the jets or do any extra tuning for the predator?
hey whats best, just upgraded the jet or a whole new carb? Also what if it runs too rich
Quick question when you bypass the governor do you put the throttle cable to the mikuni or keep it on the governor
On gopowersports the mikuni kit gives you the decision of getting a 48 or a 65 mm adapter. What size do I need to get for 212? Or does it matter?
"deez nuts" haha got em lol. Nice video btw, you're very thorough with your how to's. Subscribed.
That's awesome. Thank you. I first got hip to your channel through searches about those 4 stroke engines.
I use to be into the 2 stroke engine builds for bicycles. I did a 600 mile trip and just got tired of having to work on them all the time.
Anyways i have a 136cc im wanting to use on my bike now, with a death row torque converter. It will only work if i mount it vertical.
So i l, like you want to use a different carburetor and was wondering is it ok to leave the governor alone? Im not going to use a billet flywheel, because i want to use parallel charging coils for 12v lights and battery charger.
I kinda dont wanna open it up and i don't mind the revs limited, if it even will be limited by not using all that garbage linkage. Thanks for the video 🙂
Hey awesome build! Questions; do I have to get a billet flywheel and/or change valve springs just to safely remove the governor? Why 22mm carb? Why not like 30? Should I go with just a straight race clutch or 30 series torque converter? Why are they called TAVs? Are the "Stage" kits kind of a waste, being that you can order everything separate? I just got my predator 212 and installed it in a engine-less Baja(um I think...it only has one downtube on the frame and it has a bicycle style seat setup and no racks or anything so really I don't know by looking at the different types which one it is) I got super cheap. I'm thinking of just doing the easy bolt on stuff, filter, mikuni carb, header, the 80ish dollar torque converter on Amazon, then I have a used chain it came with, and the the back sprocket looks alright. Then I was gonna do the governor bypass, the one where you move the spring not the zip tie method. Any suggestions or tips?
Buy a Park Tool or similar cable cutter. It is a tool designed to specifically cut brake and shifter cable and will prevent fraying that happens when you cut with a regular pair of snips
Is there any way to utilize an arc top plate with the throttle cable? Connections? Fittings? Beneficial ?
Which direction is choked on that carb? Press down for choke? Or pull up? Anyone know?
Pull up for choke
Awesome. Thank you.
So do you have to install a bigger carb. on a ct200u to get the new jet from a stage 1 mod. kit to preform at all?
Just wondering the two hoses that I have left over after putting a aftermarket filter which are the crank case hose and I think valve cover hose at very front… they were both connected to old the airbox I have a 169cc “150cc” go kart
Can you use this setup with the governor still intact or will it have to be removed to use this carb? Maybe a dumb question but i know it has all the extra springs and all for it..
I'm confused, just installed a Mikuni 22 on my Predator 212. 1 - Now, it runs great when the lever with rubber tip is up. Does that mean the choke is off? I've been researching this and there are opposing answers. 2 - it starts best in the mid position then I flip up, is that normal? Thanks :). (The engine is brand new, I removed the oil sensor and governor). Why did they put the idle screw waaay under the carb? Hard to get to.
Are there by chance any experts on jetting Mikuni carbs out there? I am just having a hard time finding anything in my online searches that is helpful. Thanks in advance!
Stupid question but what did you use to make a gasket? Can i use a 12 pack beer cardboard box to make one and add some gasket maker? I am c9ncerned about vacuum leaks
Hey red beard first off I wanna say thanks for all your videos there great! I’m sorry if youve already answered this but I have a genuine mikuni vm22 carb I’m getting ready to put on my 212 with intake, header, governor removed and upgraded valve springs. I was wondering what size jets you think would work best? I live at 5000ft in Colorado. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Will my old fuel line that originally comes with the predator gas tank be able to hook to the mikuni since the fuel line attaches on the other side?
+Thirsty Dog Garage you may need to get a longer piece.
Red Beard's Garage that's what I was thinking. Thank you
What size of adapter did you guys use? On go power sports, there is a 48mm, and a 65mm. What size should I get?
Hi can you please tell me if i have to change the jet when putting on a new airfilter?? I do not want a performance increase i just find that the stock airfilter doens't look as good and takes away alot of space! So i would like to just change that and keep the original jet. Thank you!
What size jets for the predator 212 did you just run what it came with ?
After installing my mikuni carb, the motor took about 20 pulls to start, and then shut off quickly afterwards when I revved it a bit. Should I be worried?
So you didn't have to do any tuning or rejetting on the carb to get it work?
This is a good video, but like the others, nobody shows how to connect the overflow tubes. Can you
show us how to properly hook up the tubes? Thanks!
Was this ever figured out?? Can find any videos on it
@The Truth of the Matter generally you run your overflow right to the ground, taking care to avoid your exaust and anything else that might be hot. It should never leak fuel unless it's dirty or there's a problem with the float. 👍🏼
So go power sports has the option for a 48mm adapter and 65mm adapter. What size are you using?
As far as the different hoses on the Mikuni, how do we know which one gets connected to what? Dumb question, but it’s my first build. I’m installing a 24mm flat side to my 212.
hi RBG i have a honda gx390 stock with governor remove... can i use a mikuni 22 on it or i need to do more modifications?
I have two questions?? What do you connect the hoses that come off the carb?? Second and hopefully you can help me out. I had an oil leak on a predator. Replaced the crank case cover gasket and still have an oil leak. Have you had this issue? I looked all over and can figure out were it’s coming from. Any recommendations on what we should do to find the issue. Thanks before hand. Great channel
I built up a stage 2 Predator for my Massimo MB200S after watching this channel and I can't wait to ditch the factory carb. Just waiting for the correct twist grip for the Mikuni cable!!
I'll be upgrading to a mikunki for my longtail motor on the ol jon boat. The stock predator throttle setup is so jenky!
Will it still perform good with stock muffler?
Hey red beard will the Mikuni work with the factory predator gas tank and if so would it need a fuel pump or would gravity feed be sufficient?
I have used it with one before and it worked good
I wanted to ask you where does that two extra pink tube leads to? Does it connect to something
I got a 26 mm mikuni for my 212 would that be too much for mine with the governor out?
What do you connect the 2 pink breather hoses from the mikuni carb to?
What about the hose coming out of the valve cover?
Will that carb fit a GX 349 Greg and do you need a diffrent throttle cable then a stock Colman Doodle bug 6-1/2 hp engine
Can you please tell me where you got the valve cover breather. Thank you
Do I have to put heavier valve springs to use this card
Whats the bottom hole on the carburator where it mounts to the manifold adapter. The plastic gasket doesn't cover the hole and gas pours out. Should I make a gasket to cover hole and clamp it down with the plastic Spacer gasket the one with o-ring
What about the linkage for the governor on the old carb? What do you do with it? The mikuni does not have a place to hook it to.
hey red beard, do i need a new throttle cable for the coleman ct200u? Its the only thing keeping me from getting a mikuni cuz I dont know anything about throttle cables or where to put the gov cable
You can keep the stock one
You should have moved the clip on the needle valve when you had the chance you'll see move it to the second one second notch from the top
So what carb did you use? VM22 knock off or the VM26 Mikuni?
I have a question, if i have a stage 1 kit on my hemi and i install a mikuni carb will my engine die as well?
I have a hemi predator 212 with governor removed, header exhaust. Right now I have stock carb that I upgraded the Jets in. Would it be worth my time and money to get a vm22 kit? Would I gain any performance? It runs really good with the stock carb but I see everyone seems to like the mukuni carbs.
Will these work for most 212cc engines such as the 212cc power horse?
@redbeard I installed the mukini carb but can only get about a quarter throttle. Anymore throttle and it wants to shut off....Any suggestions?
hey red beard i was wondering if you could maybe make a short vid on how to tune the mikuni. i have a 212 also. mods are: mikuni 22mm, header, no gov, black mamba cam, billet flywheel, 26lb springs, arc rod, fuel pump& filter, i had the 130 main & 17.5 pilot in it but i put the stock jets back in. and ive tried moving the clip all the way up and down, ive screwed the air/fuel screw on the bottom of the carb all the way out to lean it out as much as possible and still every time i pull the plug its pitch black. it idles and runs fine tho. it doesnt cut out or backfire i can rev it to the moon and it keeps on going and doesn't fall flat. i just cant figure out why im still fouling the plug?. so yea man any info would help. oh yea and once the plug starts to foul of course it gets harder to start and i get (ALOT) of white smoke from the exhuast everytime i go to crank it. i thought white smoke was a lean problem??? so yea lol as you can see im a little confused. im assuming theres no way in hell the stock jets on the mikuni are to big for the mods i have. so yea any info you can give on how to tune these things would be much appriciated!. thank you!.
What do you do with the governor rod and will the makuni work with the regular fuel tank instead of the fuel pump you have installed?
Exactly! What do you do with the governor rod?
The carburetter rods are super easy to remove with a hammer drill tighten it on as tight as you can and put her in reverse takes 10 seconds
If only I had seen this earlier😂
please help! I need info on will the vm22 mikuni this set up, will the filter work on my stock one? at least until I get the actual mikuni carb? God bless all good :)
What do you do with the light red pinkish tubes on the carburetor?
Notice how the idle rpm skyrockets (around time 14:12) when the choke/starter is engaged? How do you fix that? Mine revs so high with the choke on, it's a race to find that tiny little choke lever before the clutch engages and the minibike rides away from you!
I'd like to know how to fix the same problem on mine? Thanks!
I don't mean to be critical, but you spend time on the obvious things like the air filter, but you never mention the fuel hose or those two pink hoses on the carb. Where do they go?
Looks like a fun project! I have a baja warrior mini bike with a predator 212 and I really want to do some modifications to it. So far I've only put on a new high flow air filter. I plan on putting on this carb. What's the best top plate to use for this engine? What's a good external fuel tank (around 1 gallon) that I can mount on my mini bike? Do I need special fuel tubing to connect from my external fuel tank to the new carb? Thanks in advance. Love the channel.
When you add this carb to the engine and connect the throttle cable directly to the carb, are you bypassing the top plate? What breather and head cover do you have?
On the fuel line to use just go to a part store and pick some fuel line up that fits your barbs. I make most of my engine plates out of aluminum. You can buy a engine plate on ebay but you have to bend it some to make it work.
Ok, thanks.
That's nuts!
When I full throttle it starts to bog, but any less than that it performs best, anyway to fix that or just leave it like that?
Have a manco intruder 2. Throttle pedal has an eyelet for the cable. Any suggestions? Thanks
Love your vids! Question on the Fuel Shutoff Valve: I have a predator 212 on an Azusa minibike. The stock carb has a fuel valve built in. Do I need to install a fuel valve on the fuel line upstream from the mikuni carb or is it un-necessary? Didn't see anything on this in your vid. Thanks!!
You don't have to but its always a good idea to have one
Thanks. I bought an inline valve.
Could I drill out the hole on the backing plate to get a little more power?
Can you all do a 22mm Mikuni carb tune,..I'm getting a bog down after the fast torque convertor takeoff,..but I still have the box 212cc exhaust !! Is it enough exhaust for the Mikuni,..or does it need tuning ?
Hi ,, like your vids .. I have a old late 80`s 301cc 8 Hp Briggs & Stratton Flat head , no where have I been able to find what size Mikuni carb to swap onto it , I`m thinking about a 26 or 28 mm carb , you got any idea`s ?? thanks Bill
whats the main purpose of a mikuni carb plss i need help n with it work better then the stock with drill jet n to install the mikuni will i meed to removetje governor thankx plss reply
yes SIR !!! Im wanting to no were you get the adaptor for the mikuni carb to the 212 predator engine, think you i like watching you and learn alot.
It is a kit on Go Power Sports. Thanks for the support!
Are the hoses it come with just for overflow?
What are you doing with jetting and needle adjustments?
When installing the new carb. What do you do with the governor?
Remove all the old stock governor stuff bc the carb has a throttle line that goes in the carb
Is the gasket between the manifold and cylinder necessary? Because believe i had a massive intake vacuum leak due to improper gasket installation. I took the gasket off and I'm about to order a new one but if I don't need it i will try running the engine without it.
+XxbossdogxX yeah you need it or it's just going to have bad idles
ok cool. Because I was idling at like 5000 rpm.
Thats probably why
Can you install this on a techumseh 6.5 hp installed on a yerf dog 3203? The techumseh is stock, no upgrades to the motor at all
Did you use the 48mm or 65mm adapter?
About how long is the throttle cable that comes with the Mikuni carburetor
I have a Tecumseh OHM110 engine, its an 11hp engine 318cc, will this Mikuni carb work for that?
Ive got a HSR42 on my motorcycle, man that thing is HUGE compared to the 22.
Will the mikuni carb fit on an mm-b212pro engine?
what carburator do you recommend me for a 390cc engine, 26mm 28mm?
I have the same VM22 mm Mikuni. So the Choke lever Down is ON OR OFF?
can you add a mikuni 22m to stock internal engine? just looking for better throttle set up really
What do you do with the left over lever coming out the engine after you take the old throttle off
You can unbolt the whole thing, but then you should probably remove the governor shaft and gear from inside the engine
Red beard , so if I put a new mickini carb on , Do I have to buy a new cable to (bt200x) , or do I use the old one which came with the bike , I'm not knowing , please help ,Jay😊
