  • I have VERY strong opinions about music and the words LOVE and Hate show up frequently in my vocabulary. Folk music songs I HATE several including Where have all the Flowers gone , Kumbya and Michael Row the BLOOOOODY boat ashore. never EVER like this song and yet here I am not only uploading for your listening pleasure but having it on my iPod.... so that once in a blue moon it will play on random select. Do I switch off the music??? Do I skip to the next song HELL no its Joe and Eddie and their version is AWESOME makes me sing along oh no here it comes again MRTBA Haleluuuuuuuuuuuya
can't help it Joe and Eddie's arrangement and presentation is quite simple infectious and NOT to be ignored the only thing that will help the fever is to SING ALONG and LOVE it Hallelujah!!!!
Damn I really LOVE THESE guys

I just heard this at the end of one episode of "Good Lord Bird;" miniseries about John Brown and the abolitionist movement. Ethan Hawke is excellent in this, and he created much of it - I highly recommend it. Well, this version by Joe and Eddie played at the end of it, and I LOVED it. Great harmony, soul, etc.. I had never heard it before then, and now I've played it about 20 times!

I agree teddyboy1000 this is by far the greatest, most heartfelt version of this song I've ever heard and I've heard dozens....and by the way thank you so much for uploading all of these songs from "Walkin' Down the Line" one of the great albums of my youth but longsince lost. I would love to know how you have these songs on your iPod, I can't find them anywhere and they weren't on their "Best of Joe & Eddie" CD for some bizarre reason. Anyway thank you. Great, great music. These guys should be known and remembered as one of the great folk groups of the '60s, because that's what they were.

Like the energy here. My favorite version so far, however, is Eric Bibb's longer version. It is one of the few versions that does not constantly repeat the title line ad nauseam. Which I don't think is a traditional aspect of the song -- not at least until The Highwaymen made it traditional. I cannot think of any good reason why we need to hear the line "Michael row the boat ashore" more than twice. But everyone does it.

It was done with passion and the guys giving their all, plus their upbeat pace which the lyrics call for compared to a lot of other humdrone slower unemotional versions, which like yourselves are to listen through 👍

I'm not sure how to feel about this comment. I heard this song for the first time 8 days ago while watching Good Lord Bird, and instantly assumed that the artist were 2 white men, trying thier level best to emulate black artists. Vocal acrobatics, as you call it, is simply called SOUL. It's okay to be ignorant, but leave the hate out please.
