The Supremes always sounded their greatest when all the voices were equal volume. This is awesome.

The song they are singing is called "Michael Row the Boat A Shore". It was popular in the 60s when I was a kid.

I don't remember much about the Tarzan show of the late '60s since I was only 3 years old at the time. BUT I do remember this scene! It was the first time I had ever heard 'Michael Row the Boat Ashore'. I had no idea that it was the Supremes that were singing it...until now. Thanks for the post.

Hi Nandy, Curiosity has me ask you- how did you learn of The Supremes appearance on that old Tarzan tv show from 1968? Looking at your photo you don't appear anywhere near my age of 53.

I knew this program long ago. CZcams will not let me download the entire program, but in my page "The International Diana Ross Fanclub on Facebook, you can see in the video section. It is divided into three parts.

I remember seeing this on my family's b&W television set. Wow, this brings back memories! I had mentioned to Rob Frith, owner of the iconic Neptoon Records of Vancouver, that Diana Ross & The Supremes were said to have been the very first group to record at Vancouver's fabled Mushroom Studio, where such huge hits as the "Dreamboat Annie" album was recorded by Heart. Rob shared this insight: "The studio was still called Aragon at the time and was owed by Al Reusch. ( He built the place ) He told me that The Supremes were guesting in one episode of the tv show Tarzan. They played Nuns and did a song in the show. I think something happened to, or something had to be changed in the recording in the show so they had to re record it while they were here in Vancouver." So now this long held Vancouver urban myth has been confirmed! The Supremes had appeared at the Cave supper club in Vancouver in 1966, with the original lie up and had returned in 1968 when this happened.

THE SUPREMES here, after the replacement of Ms Florence Ballard with Ms Cindy Birdsong that became known as the DOG & PONY SHOW / CHARADE of "Diane Ross & The Supremes" in this episode out of the control of Berry Gordy recording studio editing their vocals managed to showcased all three (Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, Diane Ross) vocalist as the smoky, sultry, sexy sound of Ms Mary Wilson shines right through!

Mary is singing her butt off too! The harmonies sound great. Always great to hear the Supremes sound like a GROUP instead of a solo act with background singers. However, it's kind of wasted emotion to still be mad about something that happened in the 60s. I'm sure all of us made some selfish decisions in our teens and 20s which is how old these ladies were at the time. Diana Ross is 75. I am sure she is not the same person she was at 25...None of us are.

Can actually hear Cindy loud and clear. Mary is hella distinct, too. Diana is barely noticeable. But it makes for a terrific harmony.
