- The reality show Extreme Makeover was always a bit controversial, as it made extensive use of plastic surgery, but the home-focused spinoff Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was a crowd pleasing favorite. The original run of the home renovation show lasted for nine seasons on ABC, and now it’s getting a revival on HGTV.
This time around, it will be hosted by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, although former host Ty Pennington will still be involved in some capacity. Critics of the old series will be happy to hear that the show is fixing the problems it had the first time around, too. What is your favorite show on HGTV?
Most of the homes from the original series just needed basic stuff like new roofs, one extra bedroom & bath, some new windows, and some plaster touch-up. That's it.
There was no need to Bulldoze The Whole Place And Build A McMansion With 5x The Upkeep And Taxes.
And sorry, but the "theme" bedrooms were totally unnecessary. The kids will grow out of Pokemon / Anime in a few years (let's hope), so you'll have to redo the rooms again.
Your points can stand except that, that 'touch-up', 'window' or 'roof' that needs repair happens to rest on structures that cannot support that rectification. Such an isolated modification - as you suggest, might not require a tv show. Most families can try and do that on their own over time. The problem with houses is that much of the structure is built at the same time. Much of the furniture and furnishing are also built and supplied in the same time-period. So they age together.

Agree so many listed the house feel so much was for ratings notjust helping they failed a lot of people
i don't have a problem with the lavish houses but they should have aided them with the costs
and a lot of those houses were brought down due to mould and age not being stable, a lot of those houses were old and weak internally
The old version of extreme home edition was better than the new version. That’s why I watch the reviews of the old ones
