After a long stay at the Strasburg Railroad, it is finally time for the Queen of Steam to head back to her home in Roanoke. Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 “J Class” #611 pulled her last excursions on the Strasburg Railroad in May of 2023. With two weekends of excursions before the move south, 611 ran 45 minute trips on the classic Strasburg half-hourly schedule, which had been absent in recent years due to Covid-19 and other difficulties. Joining her on her last excursions was Strasburg Railroad’s own Norfolk & Western 4-8-0 “M Class” #475, built in 1906 and preceding the 611 by almost 44 years, long before the J Class as a whole was even remotely a thought. This video showcases various scenes of both the 611 and 475 from the final weekends of excursions on the Road to Paradise. Will the two engines meet again in the future? Only time will tell, and thus it is time to say farewell to the Queen of Steam. Now, please enjoy this exciting video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions!
This video was filmed on May 21st, 28th and 29th, 2023.
SHES BEAUTIFUL, This was cool to watch!!!!THANKS BLUE!!!😃😃💗💚💙👍👍👍👍
Extraordinary train capture indeed
Nice video, thanks.
Excellent stuff! Sounds like they must've fine-tuned 611's whistle. Sounds just about like it did in the 80's and 90's.
Wow awesome video plus ride along footage. Enjoyed watching and have a wonderful rest of your Thursday evening.(Steve)
Awesome video!!
Great video and catches
When i heard that 611 was going to Strasburg without the pullman standard cars, i thought what a bummer, but the Strasburg consist was same color and made for a very charming train, it was perfect.
I have seen their Norfolk & Western 611 at the Strasburg Railroad before, back in September 5th 2021 along with Norfolk & Western 475. I am going to be returning back to Strasburg Railroad again later this month for Day out with Thomas. Where their Strasburg Railroad Thomas the Tank Engine (A.K.A Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal #15) is going to at during my visit there.
If you pause at 0:59, you can see the locomotives bell in between the footboard and the boiler.
