    Detailing for me is about having that ocd, passion to get my car to it's best from the outside to the inside. I have noticed that too many detailing channels, people are becoming more and more marketing focused, hype and brand placing at every opportunity. I love trying different products, i try and fail with some, get excellent results with others but the passion keeps flowing.

    John at first I thought it was pricey until I thought about the fact that you said the Si02 (the good stuff) lasts 6 months and cost USD 69 (amazon price), and the ArtDeShine is USD 180 but it last 5 years, made me reconsider my comments. I now consider USD 180 at 5 yrs a bargain compared to USD 69 for six months. Food for thought. By the way, the music was a little distracting, so my suggestion would be to turn it down a bit and let us concentrate on you. You are the reason why I tune in, but the music was a nice touch, just a little too loud for me. Thanks.

    I made some carbon nanotubes once, graphene is even easier to *create*. The problem due to its delicate nature is manipulating it in large scale manufacturing in a cost effective way. Graphene is a ballistic conductor[zero resistance] and is stronger than steel relatively speaking. Its also transparent because of its thinness. If they threw a few trillion at developing its potential vs endless forever wars for the defence industry we'd probably solve a tonne of problems in the process. There is a tonne of hype for a reason, the big problem is working with such fine materials is super difficult!

  • @MikeGDetailing
    @MikeGDetailing Před 4 lety +2

    I’ve been testing SPS Graphene and it has potential. The issue is the amount of Graphene within the product. It is not a cheap ingredient to use. It will take time to get into the hands of the prosumer as these new Graphene products are being aimed towards the professional.
    SiO2 is tried and true and Graphene has a lot of work ahead. We shall see if it makes its way as the next coating material. It’s a bit hyped at the moment.

      @Kyle-kc8cw Před 4 lety +1

      @@a0r0a7 Well, 3 years ago you say? Then it's not nonsense. And not just mere bold claims either. Properties of graphene are actually excellent, even for cables. Very high electrical conductivity, thus very low "bleeding". This leads to a massive increase of performance and quality, as well as efficiency. But, the cost. YIKES! That is true because, as simple as it sounds, this is not a mass produce raw material. Only a handful were producing it and it's rather costly to do so. It costs more than silver. That's something you've got to understand FIRST. It costs more than silver and I believe more than gold too. If it was a golden rca cable for 450 per 0.5m, it probably wouldn't sound so "nonsense" but rather more of just some luxury item. Now considering this, graphene, used to cost more than gold. Just add a brand to the product + expensive raw material, I'm afraid you were offered a luxury item then pal. The price of graphene has dropped a TON since then.

  • @davidleitch3199

    My problem with these long term coatings is fallout and scratches. If you get a scratch you need to wet sand and polish it is going to be a lot of work to get that coating off. When it comes to fallout I like slickness which means each year I need to spray a fallout remover, clay, polish and apply a polymer sealant. I would much rather do that work with the TW Ceramic products. I want durability sure, but car paint takes abuse and you have spruce it up every six months to a year. I can tell you I TW Seal n Shine on my vehicle now and it got the best water beading in the parking lot right now.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 4 lety +1

      good general point against coatings you make there.. over the course of a year the chance of a car needing paintwork is pretty damn high.. and removing the coating properly in the areas it needs to be removed is a major pain for some. and then reapplying a coating, but also waiting adequante time for the refinish work to cure.. coatings never fully went main stream.. but I also think they went beyond just being niche because they do offer some genuine advantages.

    The only benefit I can see in this over a good quality ceramic coating is if it offers stone chip protection. That would make it a whole lot cheaper than PPF.

    To answer your question about compatibility with other products. I DO NOT know the answer however graphene is basically carbon and the molecule of carbon is probably the most compatible with other molecules. Carbon can combine with mostly anything so I would say anything from the cheap turtle wax all the way up to what ever synthetic coating you can think of would be fine.

    Graphene creates a hellacious amount of gloss. I have the SPS graphene detailer and IGL F4 Renew. Both products produce insane amounts of gloss. Haven't had either long enough to report on longevity but I can say after 3 washes with an aggressive snow foam (Autoglym Polar Blast) the hydrophobic behavior remains unchanged. The real benefit of choosing graphene over Si02 is graphene resists water spotting.

    The reason why the ceramic coating stopped sheeting is because it was shocked by the acid. Give it about 7 days at the most and it will have its hydrophobic properties back. It’s a whole different beast in slang terms

    Compatibility is gonna be in the Polymer group. Hence Xtreme Solutions PolySeal and the like minus the Carnuba types. The main benefit I’ve seen is the water spots. They don’t adhere to the surface at all . A comparison coating would be IGL F4 applied every 4. ( $30 a bottle ). So this isn’t as cost effective. But if it’s available to the US market I’ll try it out.

    Another great review, mate.
    On the first glimpse it does look to be a superior product.
    BUT when compared to value for money I honestly think people will choose the cheaper material that does the trick.
    For show room shine cars, rarities, high end cars yes.
    For every day driving, I am not so sure.
    There is a certain product, available for 50 € and also has 5year expectancy.
    The company is named after a mountain (no shilling intended).
    180£ VS. 50€?
    Its up to the customer to decide.

    I've had the US Distribution of the Art d' Shine Graphene Coating (SPS) in my daily driver since May of 2019. So far it's doing quite well, resists spotting, chemical contamination. My daily driver doesn't get all that much 'love' and now that it's Winter in NE Ohio, we'll see how the SPS Graphene held up come Springtime. So far though, it's been quite impressive on my black 2017 Honda Accord that sees 20k miles a year, 95% of that freeway use.
    In our climate, nothing kills coatings quicker than Winter freeway usage, a few months I'll know how this held up to that. I'm not a professional by any means, just kinda a 'coating junkie' that got the opportunity to give it a try. No affiliation with SPS, Art d' Shine or any other entity.
    Kept some notes on the Graphene experience, can find them here if interested: budgetplan1.wordpress.com/sps-graphene-coating/

    Electrical conductivity will come into play when your clean car is exposed to dust and pollen. If your paint conducts electricity then it will not hold a static charge, or it will not hold as strong of a static charge. Therefore, less dust will stick to your car.

And was it removed due to pressure from the detailing industry?

    I believe you're correct. GRAPHENE is the future. The problem, as I see it, will be the claims made by the manufacturers of car products as to the amount of graphene in their products. There is no process or procedure to test the product or the claims of the manufacturer at this time. A little worrisome at the current price.

      i would expect a normal 1-2 year consumer ceramic to be able to take a hammering from wonderwheels.. but I think I might see some slow down like I did with the CP light.. but Im guessing. It sat on there for around 4 hours over the course of 3-4 hits. That live hit was the 4th hit not the 3rd.. ill see what happens to the test panel over the next 6 months and ill hit it with random things when I wash the cars.

    I’m a pharmacist and I am concerned with the long term chronic exposure of inhaled silicone dioxide as detailers aerosolize these coatings on vehicles daily. I’m concerned as we chase more and more durable coatings in our exuberance we fail to consider long term effects of inhaling these coatings as we apply them. We have no clue as to the long term exposure to Graphene. 🤔

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 4 lety

      yes top draw point. detail spray says use like a mask as well. I was wondering if that was just like because it has a small amount of solvent in it so by law they have to put the appropriate safety action like wear gogles and mask etc.. or its specifically cause of the graphene.. like you say we probably dont know the health implications of graphene but TBH I think all these chemicals are not gonna be great in our lungs.. even like aluminum oxide when poishing..

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 4 lety +1

      I have to guess based on the fact Ive never have to remove it. but judging by the applicator cloth.. I would treat this resin like a ceramic.. It will need to be abraded off the car. someone else said it was easy enough to compound off in the comments. but ive just not done it first had so not sure.. I suspect it will be a pain to remove just because its so hard to tell. (basically like ceramics)
