    The original FMV opening/scenes were and still fantastic with an unique charm, nothing can replace them. Anyway, the new remaster do justice to the old Psone 3d. It gives a new life.
    I always love this game and licence since 1997.

    the original has way more attention and care put into the physics, camera angles, and lighting. it feels much more cinematic and theatrical. the Wii and Switch just looks like your watching an in-game scene instead of a full-blown FMV (full motion video)

    • @NeonPizza80s
      @NeonPizza80s Před rokem +3

      The PS1 original and Reverie versions have less enjoyable game play due to the 'grass hopper'/high jumping physics. It just feels less intuitive and awkward to play, compared to teenage Klonoa in Wii version which feels a lot better strictly in terms of jumping. Plus the english voice acting IN the Wii version was superb. I couldn't help but feel irritated and left feeling cold from the JPN voice acting in Reverie.
      Overall, Reverie 'looks' better, but the awkward jumping mechanics and lousy JPN voice acting break the experience for me. Namco should just patch it with an optional teenage Klonoa and optional Wii English Voice acting.

      @@lol-ivan7500 Same thoughts. They could've just used a program to upgrade the PS1 cutscenes and it would've added a lot of charm to the game. A fan already did this and it looked great. Seeing how the switch is a copy of the Wii version with a fresh coat of paint, all of us who have seen the Wii ending know what's coming and it's not nearly as impactful as the PS1 version.

    Ok, so I don't outright hate any of the versions of the game. I really enjoy the dream-like CG cutscenes from the original, but I think I prefer Klonoa's outfit from the Wii version. As far as his proportions/body size/eyes, I like them both equally. It would have been nice to have an option of which outfit you want to play with. But since you are forced into the OG costume, it would have been nice to see the original cutscenes return with some upscaling and remastering work. I think the game releases tomorrow, so it will be cool to see what features we get in the final product

  • @Gretri17
    @Gretri17 Před 2 lety +38

    Looking at this, I can tell Phantasy's cutscenes are about 1 to 1 to the Wii Remake. This isn't a bad thing since Klonoa actually looks like how he does from the original. And tbh, playing a game that costs more than $300 on the PS1... it's nice to actually have it on the current gen consoles with it remade. I personally grew up with Klonoa 2, and holy fuck I love the updated graphics. Again, that game's cutscenes are 1 to 1 from the PS2 which I'm personally fine with. You don't really need to overhaul the cutscenes for that game. Love this video tho, thanks for the effort you put into it

    As much as I appreciate the remakes, the original Door to Phantomile is still the best. I just felt it's simpler approach had the biggest emotional impact. Plus the FMV cutscenes really drove home the beauty and darkness of it's story far better than the in-game ones ever could. Not to mention there were so many little details that I missed in the remakes.

  • @switchnx
    @switchnx Před 2 lety +55

    The Klonoa Design on Switch is more accurate than on Wii, though not quite reaching the PS1 design. The colors on the Switch are too bright compared to the Wii version during Gameplay, and the blurring on the Wii version makes things look better overall compared to the Switch version. The PS1 version has the most charm though.

    • @brandnewman9870
      @brandnewman9870 Před 2 lety +3

      I agree with you about the blur. I don't know why blurring gets such a bad reputation on modern consoles (it was one of my few regrets about the Wind Waker remake, for example). It emphasizes the distance, and for games with a "simplistic" style like Klonoa, gives a little "I don't know" that I miss on the Switch. I don't might the colors or the style of "Reverie", though, but one might say you could achieve something similar by tweaking your TV with the Wii. Anyway, still a nice gesture to have released that game!

    The outfit for the Wii version will always be my favorite outfit for Klonoa, with the blue outfit from 2 being well...2nd.
    I understand why they probably went back to the old PS1 design in the Switch release since he looks younger than he does in Klonoa 2. But still, I still want that outfit from the Wii version. Give me DLC where I can switch to that outfit (in 2 even)

  • @cravdraa
    @cravdraa Před rokem +6

    I first experienced Klonoa series through the Wii remake, but afterwards I looked into the series as a whole and really prefer the original.
    The CGI cutscenes have so much more care put into them, to say nothing of the animation quality and details.
    But Klonoa's design... the original is cuter, yes, but everything about it also has a slightly unsettling, whimsical, surreal feel to it. His large yellow eyes with the slitted pupils. the choice to have greater contrasts with light and shadow. The choice to have that dream-like haze to the image. All of it feels sort of otherworldly.
    The wii's redesign is clearly supposed to resemble a Sonic character and probably appeal to a wider audience.
    I'm still grateful for the wiimake though. without it, I may have never experienced the series at all, and it's likely that we wouldn't have the new remakes either. I'm glad that they're at least trying to make it more faithful to the original though.

    The only issue I have with the Switch version is that the Wii version changed the way the scenes during the cutscenes were shot which, in my opinion, were for the worse (different angles, zooming out, less expressive movement) and sadly the Switch version used the Wii scenes as a base.

The Wii version really robbed the look of the game of a lot of its brightly colored charm and warmth, and the Switch leaves that intact while still updating the graphics to a level that's more in line with modern games.
    It may have been a sign of gne times. During the 2000s, especially the latter half of the decade, so many games looked kinda drab with very muted color palettes. It's kinda silly to go for that in a series like Klonoa for which its cuteness is such a big part of the series' character.

    I always thought the PS1 original is the best when the Wii remake came out.
    Now I still think is the best but the Switch ports is better than the Wii remake,its the same game but better so
    PS1 > Switch(2022 Port) > Wii
    IMO

      not exactly in everything because if u look close the new version has improvements like the environments having bounce light now and such, while i like the text boxes of the wii and the changes to his eyes, but i guess in the new version they wanted him to match more his original ps1 look so it's like they married the ps1 and wii version

    • @melxb
      @melxb Před 2 lety +3

      @@BirdAsBond again it really doesn't it's essentially the same except now they made the colors match more the original as well as the character model of course...while today u may prefer the more drab look of wii, fans didn't really like the route that remake took...but yeah wii isn't "way better" this version clearly ups the colors and contrast, effects and lights actually bounce, improved texture quality and yeah just has the og klonoa model look, which all really just comes down to preference

  • @zecurox

    for some reason, the Wii version looks more realistic than the switch. maybe because the color tone and the blur effect

    • @extra4542
      @extra4542 Před 2 lety +2

      No that’s just the art style they went with for that remake, then they redid it to better match the original PS1 ver for the switch

    Don't know what these developers are thinking. Nothing will beat the original CGI cut scenes unless they try to match the effort. So why not reuse them and improve is it's quality?

  • @TMoDDD
    @TMoDDD Před 2 lety +2

    When an old psx cutscene is a million times more detailed and smoother than modern console cutscenes
    The problem is not the franchise is fucking Nintendo and Bandai Namco
    This isnt justice for the franchise this is like a test to see how relevant Klonoa still is and i hope it sells cuz who knows if we ever gonna see Klonoa again.

  • @louis1679

    Totally unacceptable for the 1st and 2nd remake. They just put the in-game module into a scene, which is not a real drawn 'Animation'. The real animation in PS1 original version is everly epic and can not be replaced, unless they really make a new animation in real.

  • @jimmysmomschannel
    @jimmysmomschannel Před 2 lety +1

    I wish they re-made the original opening instead of rendering it in-engine. I also think the Wii models fit better with the switch version. The Ui is also way to big on the switch version. The game went from very original to a NSMB styled Super Mario Sunshine clone.

  • @GordoFreakmanFail-Life

    I think all versions are good but my one and only problem is why Klonoha on PS2 and Wii looks like a fu*kin parody of Sonic.

    Honestly the switch version looks the blandest of all of them, no? The original has so much personality, the Wii version keeps most of the personality but with largely improved assets. Than the remake just looks like a scaled up version re release with 0 effort of adding some charm back in that will naturally be needed with a project like this.

  • @keijijohnson9754

    I don’t get why people are here bashing that Wii remake, but I wish they gave us an option to play that first game with the Wii version’s design of Klonoa. It just felt unnecessary having to do all this for what is just a port of it.
