  • Felco 2 are considered to be the gold standard among bypass hand pruners. They’re also expensive at over $50/pair. So are there other options for finding high quality pruners without paying a premium price? Let’s look at Bahco’s P-series pruners. Bahco and Felco pruners are trusted brands among professionals and commercial growers. How do Felco 2 and Bahco Pruners compare?

    I have several pruners Felco 2, 7, 8 and 10, Fiskars P90, Gardena few models, Bahco/Sandvik few models, Kuker, Wolf-Garten, Falken etc. The best and most universal ones are Kuker. It is third blade configuration option that is not mentioned in this video where two blades meet eachother on blade tips. Kuker is Italian brand and it is widespread in Mediterenian countries. It is not cheap, but it will serve you for a lifetime. If you are looking for cheaper options Falken and Bahco are good options. Falket makes copies of other succsessful designs with decent quality and about 40% cheaper than originals. Falkets Kuker copy is exceptional. Here in the video Bahco sheers that are presented have steel sheat handles and those models are slipery, but there are models with robust drop forged handles which are superb; like P3 model. There are also models with rubber/plastic handle covers which also provide good grip. The best budget overall I would give to Slovenian Unior pruners specially for their 544PR model. That model is clone of Felco 8 and it is top quality for fraction of original cost. Fiskars and Gardena make some great pruners, but also have bunch of bad ones. Also there are some other manufacturers that you cant go wrong with like Lowe, Due Cigni, Vesco, ARS, Corona, Castellari, Ausonia, Pellenc etc.

    Thank you BRIAN for introducing Bahco. The P126-19, P126-20 and P126-22 are a great series of tools. I suggest trying out a P126-22 and a the P1 series as well with the our classic P1-20 and the larger blade No. 3 with the P1-23.
    Did you know that Bahco Pruning Tools is a division of Snapon? Just a note.
    Cheers!

      I have heard that. I’ve had good experience with other Bahco tools. My next goal is to get a pair of the Bahco P-75 edging shears. I’ll probably do a review on those if I do. Thanks for reaching out!

    I haven't tried Felcos but I love my Bahco pruners - strong and simple.
    I'm not a huge fan of the catch but it's better than those on many other pruners I have tried including Felco copies, many of which come loose and fail to engage.

    As a tool nerd just getting into gardening I think bahco is owned by the Stanley-blackanddecker group which also owns facom wich still makes its pliers in France, maybe bahco uses facom's plier factory? I don't see why else a Swedish company would produce its tools in France. Just a thought, if anyone knows better I'll gladly be corrected

      Bahco Pruners are made in France but with Swedish Sanviken Steel. So you are correct. Bahco is more Swedish and Felco is Swiss.

    Nothing compares to Felco. It requires far less hand strength and it will last you a life time. It also allow you to replace parts as needed.

    So I hate to be picky but FELCO shears are made in Switzerland and not Sweden. And Bahco is a Swedish company, not French. I am not sure if the shears are made there. Also you should compare similar shears. If you want to compare a FELCO to the all steel Bahco you should compare the FELCO 5 to it. That would make the price comparison more apples to apples.
    Lastly the AM Leonard knock off is a Chinese fake. Way over priced for the quality.

      @swayback7375 Před 2 lety +1

      Without even looking it up and not owning one I can still tell you bahco is made in France… maybe they’re based in Sweden. Apple is an American company but that stuff is made in China… just sayin…

    • @norbertamberg8730
      @norbertamberg8730 Před 2 lety +2

      Bahco was still a Swedish company not French, as far as where they are made they could be made in China. Bahco is now owned by the group that owns Snap-on.

    • @kittytrail
      @kittytrail Před rokem +4

      @@norbertamberg8730 it's even weirder than that. Bahco is a swedish company owned by Snap-on, that owns a french brand, Pradines, previously owned by another swedish conglomerate called Sandvik, specializing in pruning tools with blades made from swedish steel produced by Sandvik since, from memory, after WWII, and, until recently, Bahco-Pradines(previously known as Sandvik-Pradines) subcontracted to another french company called Devillé the design and manufacturing of all pruning tools except saws which were/are made in Sweden(with some in Russia too). SNA Europe, the european branch of Snap-on managing all their euro brands portfolio, bought back the factory from Devillé and now makes the Bahco branded pruners in house. 🤯
      parts are still available for more than 60 yo pruners but not all parts though(say P127 central screw) unlike for Felco .
      most of Bahco branded non-pruning hand tools are made in Sweden, Spain, Portugal and Argentina and all the shitty ones in China.

      Wow! I am amazed at the depth of knowledge, as well as passion, for pruners displayed in the comments, not the least of which is your one! Hmm, just recalled a funny story I heard on the radio years ago. A big supermarket chain had started to become less snd less happy with their milk supplier, especially their attitude, until finally one day they sacked them. Well, it took a little while to filter through, but it turned out they’d sacked one of their own companies! Amazing! Happy pruning! 😃 .. ✌️
