    I've got an original pair from 1940s, still brilliant and sharp. The newer ones have a different anvil design, I much prefer the older design.

    Great observation, the weight! I think that’s one of their finest features. But still dependable and smooth!

      I find that because my hands are smaller some secateurs are just not right.

    They are the best, I have 2’s, 7 and now 8’s, no comparison!

      To be honest I have not used any other secateurs. Felco's are the only brand I have used. Right from when I did my garden training at school - it is what they recommended.

    I've just ordered a Felco 2, I'm going to use it mostly for ornamental plants, maybe some grape / fruit tree pruning. I was considering the model 9 (left handed version of 8) but there was a discount for a bundle including a Felco 2 + sharpener. I will not use it for 8 hours per day so hopefully my wrists will tolerate the classic version :) Thanks for the info !

      That is awesome. I am sure you will be fine using the Felco 2. Pruning for a short period is definately easier. Vineyard pruning for 3 months 5 days a week is quite strenuous. Wishing you much success for your ornamental plants and fruti trees.

    If you are allowed to have only one secateurs which of your two secateurs will you retain the felco f8 or felco f2?

    • @GardenersbyTrade
      @GardenersbyTrade  Před 10 měsíci +1

      My choice would be the Felco 8. Easier on the hand for long periods of use.

      @@GardenersbyTrade Mine too I think , don't own one yet. But the f2 "starterkit" with all sorts of extras seems interesting too. I'm not sure yet.

    Do you find one cuts better or easier?

    • @GardenersbyTrade
      @GardenersbyTrade  Před 3 lety +3

      Both cut the same (in my opinion). For me I started with the Felco 8. After years of pruning hundreds of roses and vines it feels natural. And I really don't know any better. Pruning vines for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week is extremely tough. I was grateful for having the Felco 8 secateurs because of the ergonomic design. However if I were to be back pruning the vines I would use powered secateurs. Purely because it is a very repetitive.

    they really seem basically the same, is there a real reason to get one over the other?

      I think from an ergonomic point of view there is. Every gardener has different preferences.
