  • Hot beach days, exploring Montevideo and more Carnaval! The moments just keep coming. Episode 3 in my recap series and I can't wait to watch these back at the end of the year.
We also visited the Andes Crash museum, in other words, the museum with artefacts from the real-life crash the movie Society in the Snow was based on.

The rambla of Ciudad de la costa, in Canelones. Very nice

yep! I do prefer the palm trees of montevideo, but ciudad de la costa has cleaner water and less people... so the BEACH is nicer, but La rambla, es mejor en MVD.

I would like to visit for a month to get a feel for the country. Where would be a good area to rent for a start? Limited Spanish.

Punta carretas in Montevideo or Punta gorda. In Maldonado (100km from Montevideo) i recommend you "la barra" is ocean there. But in March summer is finishing

Punra gorda or anywhere in Maldonado is great, but it's more of a vacation! I wouldn't recommend MOVING there, unless you want to live a very quiet life and not have much interaction with local culture.
I would agree that Punta carretas is nice, or Pocitos, both are nice neighbourhoods in Montevideo.
If you have basic spanish you should be ok, a lot of people speak basic english, especially young people who learned in school, but just be patient and polite about communicating!
I did just make a whole video on learning spanish so I cover some BASIC BASICS that you should be aware of before visiting, especially if you learned "generic spanish" or something closer to European or Mexican spanish, and not Argentinian / Uruguayan SPECIFIC spanish, because there are some key differences.
